It just me or are a lot of pros switching to Nippon Iron Shafts?

I was a longtime DGS300 player and switched to Modus 120S this summer and I will never play anything else again........The Modus 120's are damn near perfection in all aspects. My only complaint is low shots are a little harder to pull off vs DG's but every other shot is easier, more consistent, & higher launching.

Currently playing Nike VPC with stock DG Pro S300, about to place an order of a Ping combo set: 4-6 i200 and 7-PW iblade, power spec lofts and Modus 105 stiff.

I love DG Pro S300 but once I hit a buddys AP2s with modus 105 stiff I was blown away!!! Granted, I just took some swings but felt awesome...

Can anyone tell me how would the DG Pro S300 and Modus 105 stiff compare? Should I go for another model in the modus line or pull the trigger on those 105s???

My two cents....

I played DG S300 shafts in many Mizuno Irons over the years and had a set of KBS Tour 120 S in my last set and didn't care for them. I stumbled on to this tread and started my search for the next hot lick and at the same time strayed from Mizuno over to OnOff Kuro Irons. I actually purchased the 1st set with Modus Tour 120 S because the 105 & 125 were yet to be launched. The Modus 120 S plays just a hair softer than the DG S300 with a similar ball flight for me but it's leaps and bounds smoother. The Modus 105 launched so I immediately custom ordered another set of OnOff Kuro Irons with the 105 shafts thinking the lighter shaft could benefit me in regard to potential swing speed. That philosophy was flawed for me and I ended up selling the set with Modus 105 shafts to a buddy and he says they are the best Iron shaft he's ever played.

My experience with my swing was that the soft butt section , mid - middle and Tip stiff of the 120 worked perfect and the 105 felt great but not as responsive.

I hope this helps

Any data on your SS with a 7 iron or some carry distances??? I find DG S300 way stout and heavy, DG Pro S300 is awesome. My 7 iron carry distance (34 degrees) is 170 yards. Steep, digger

My 7i swing speed is the same. The Modus 105 will launch higher and spin less than DG. I went to the 105 because I wanted a light high performance shaft. The 105 is so easy to swing however you can hit any shot you need with them. So if you’re looking to lighten up and can deal with seeing the ball launch higher and enjoy a smooth feeling shaft, give the 105 a go. I think you’ll like the change. I found my distance control, accuracy and dispersion improved greatly with the 105 because I’m able to control the club and club face more precisely and I don’t have to muscle the club no matter how my ball lies.

Old news, but, I just saw this. Ollie can smoke some ropes with his 120TXs. Have some 105s in now but want more shaft weight. Thinking 115 is sweet spot - demoing 120S, C Taper R+, XP 115 S, and 125R. 125R on the heavier side- just a hunch. I am a circa, px 5.5, 105s, CTL stiff, 130RHS1, S300 range guy. Didn’t like the 120 in X but for whatever reason I am hoping that 120S is the one.

Anyone have any feedback on the Modus 125? Ive heard theyre very similar to DG. But are they closer tothe x100 or s300 profile?

Also how do they compare flex wise?

I went from X100 to Modus 125X. Love them. Never hit the ball better. Full disclosure - also got Srixon 765 irons so it also could be part new irons (which i also love). They seem to want to fly straighter for me.

I discovered a 120 stiff 6 iron shaft in my stash of demos and put it into a Maltby DBM 6 iron and just gave it a whirl. Don't know why I didn't like the 120X so much - just disregarded the shaft after trying the 120x. But, I gotta say, I loved the 120 stiff in this first go. Weight seems perfect. Very accurate and could work up and down the stairs and to left and right. Really could swing freely and, to be honest, I didn't feel the butt was terribly mushy or lack of control at top and it felt very solid at impact. Good strikes most of the time. Average shot was lower than 105 stiff and much easier to flight lower and work the ball left and right. Was hitting on mats. Snuck forward to hit off the grass and it got even better. Was hitting down better and taking divots and it flighted even better, really felt firm at impact and appeared to be going an extra 5-10 yards. Total distance from eyeball test seemed about same as 105 stiff. I typically am a high spin player so leery of the 120's rep for being high spin, but, range test didn't indicate any issues. May continue to test once I get the other demo shafts I mentioned prior, but, the 120 stiff is a winner right now.

Tried to read most of this thread. Can anyone compare the NS 950GH to the Modus 105?

Maybe straight in 950GH to the Modus 105 Soft Stepped 1x.

I’ve only tried the 950GH in demo clubs for kicks. IIRC, it launched similar to the 105 but hard higher peak height and spin.

How do u compare a 105x to a hs x100.

U shoulda tried a 125x hs to give a fair compairson.

for one, i got the 105's on a trade -- figured it was worth a shot. second, the modus 105 to me, felt softer in the tip and just, didn't give me what i wanted.

Good stuff for me and my game. I like hearing the 105 is softer in the tip.

don't get me wrong, i wasn't 'hating' on modus. it felt great otherwise. different strokes for different folks. thank you again for your service btw.

I agree, the 125 is an awesome shaft. I think people come to Nippon for their lighter weight, high performance and feel which is why I believe the 120 and 105 get more attention than the 125 and 130.

Haven't heard anything yet. PGA Show is next month, could see a new shaft for retail there if they decide to bring something new out. Nippon doesn't tend to release something new ever year so no telling if they will and what it may be. They have had prototypes there before that still haven't come to market. Perhaps one of those? LSL maybe?? Might depend how strong the sales are going for existing lineup.

I'd like to see some more lower-launch lower-spin options, and in the light-to-mid weight range I think they can fill a void of low/low and still good feel.

Also would like to see another wedge shaft that's a tad heavier than the 125 wedge. A bit closer to a SPB/C10/Tour125 iron shafts but in a wedge. More lively than WV125, less lively than Modus Wedge 125.

Also would be interesting to see a Modus driving iron shaft line up.

Slighytly off but on topic...

how do you find Nippon Driver/FW shafts? Have you tried them? I see on their site they have a specific one based on which Iron shaft you use however I dont think ive ever seen a Nippon driving shaft anywhere nor gamed by anyone.
