Prediction forthcoming:

Tiger signs with new form of macgregor and sales go through the roof. Two weeks later tons of extra stiff shafted 12* 3 woods and 2 irons appear on the bst.

lol. Something not too dissimilar actually happened with Cobra and Greg Norman back in the day, except that he bought a big share in the company and then they sold a bunch of drivers that no one could hit.

Know a few engineers at the Oven and caught up with them a few minutes ago. A few tidbits:

1. They had no idea. Cops showed up to escort them out as it would happen with any company. Obviously, with the industry as it was, they're not crying but they were shocked about the hard cut.

2. No acquisition on the horizon that they are aware of and even if so, the employees at the Oven are not being absorbed anytime soon. As far as they know, that facility is shut down completely.

3. Little ill-will towards Nike corporate...everyone knows the score. They had a great experience and weren't being just PC about it. Truly enjoyed their time.

4. I saw the equipment that will never see the light of day. Every Nike golf guy would have been absolutely thrilled! The bulk of the haters would silenced, or would look more illogically biased than ever at the very least. Think MM Proto but with some additional elegance.

5. There were more Origins coming, too, including the mallets I was waiting for. GD it! They looked great. Always like the method roll so it's a bummer that these won't be released.

*SIGH*

*Gold Pro Combos

*Mallet Origins

*Drivers that adjust based on angle of attack.

Screw Nike corporate. Hard to support a brand that just gave up. Hope David Franklin, Prater, Scott, Mike Taylor end up at PXG.

Gold pro combos??? why the f*** did they have to quit now?? "#$%"%&%/!!!!!

Heads were all gold. At least what I saw at the Oven. Nike executives would have probably screwed that up too come production time. Just like they did with adjustable weighting on the Origins which was the original plan

Wild news. Nike was in a good position and just took a hard left turn to no salesville with the Covert line. It almost seems like they came in and tried to change the whole equipment style in golf and ignored tried and trusted designs.

Couldn’t play w/o clubs, balls & bag or men & woman dedicated to them. Grateful for their hard work & innovation from an amazing @Nike team

It's because of these people we put the wound ball into extinction. They helped me win grand slam.

Bottom line is that Nike's bottom line on golf was not improving. Even though they're $100b company, the loss for 8+ years was getting out of hand. And Tiger is not getting younger is another push toward this cliff-off decision.

All I wanna know is if RORY 006 putter price will go higher. got 3 in my closet. :D :D

$100B? Sorry to single you out but lot's of bogus numbers being thrown around.

Fiscal year is Jun - May.

Nike Net Sales or Revenue

2011 - $20.86B

2012 - $24.13B

2013 - $25.31B

2014 - $27.80B

2015 - $30.60B

2016 - $32.38B

Does it really matter though? Still a ton of money.

Revenue does not equal profit. Profit is probably 10% of that number. Now 30 million is a lot of profit,

I was never really good in mathematics but 10 % of 30 billions is 3 billions not 30 millions.

Loved the looks of Nike's Original blades and irons in the first years...after that their clubs got gaudier and gaudier...no wonder nobody bought them...

If they would have made the vapor fly woods black instead of only blue and the swoosh would have been black or some other color than volt on all the clubs would they have kept making clubs?

The whole cavity-back concept was marketing crap and flawed from the start. Add ridiculous colors and swooshes and the whole idea was just doomed.

Actually I agree, it could be really tacky. I was thinking gold as an accent colour...that would've been nice.

They will be remembered as pure garbage by a lot of peeps on here who never tried any of their gear and simply dissed them on pure hearsay for sure.

FTFY :)

I will remember them for my current set of VR Split Cavities and my Drone putter, both fantastic pieces of equipment. I have multiple brands in my bag and do not hold any of them as the holy grail. Never EVER thought I would put Nike in my bag, but I keep going back to my irons.

I guess people can now transfer the hate onto the gaudy, crappy Cobra gear from here on! (I have some of that too).

Nike is a $100.1b company according to Forbes.

http://www.forbes.com/companies/nike/

The number from Forbes is the Market Cap or Market Capitalization number. It is incorrect to equate that number with a company's worth but sometimes done so.

You're right, net profit has been around 10% the last 5 years

Not gonna lie, I'm super pissed off. Not only did I just complete a brand new set of Covert 2.0 clubs for my girlfriend, we were getting the VRS Step 1 for the kiddos one day, and I was FINALLY building a Nike bag. Now, that dream of a Nike golf family is gone.. and I could've had gold plated protos with non cavity drivers in black nonetheless..

Crushed dreams..

Guess I'll get some new Mizzy's this fall and a Scotty M2 putter ?

LOL, I stand corrected. :)

Anyway, my point was Nike makes a lot of money but my guess is the golf division was losing a lot of money net.
