Brands You Won't Play

I've never cared for TM irons or wedges. Just never liked the looks really even though I'm sure they're as good as anything else.

Yep. For some reason an iron or wedge with TM on it just turns me off. Yet Driver and 3 wood not at all. Don’t really know why. But my brain just thinks. “Cheap”. Especially with the wedges.

With the exception of the ball, I won't play anything that doesn't have the word "Ping" on it.

That comment seems to conflict w/ your ebay user id.

As for me, I can't bring myself to play anything Taylor Made...perhaps that'll change one of these years.

I had one of the earliest Nike woods with a steel shaft, bought new. The shaft broke just below the butt of the grip on me on the range. Same thing happened with the replacement in the middle of a round. Not sure if they were cheaping out on the shafts and using extensions but that was officially it for me with them.

I really don't like the looks of Ping irons and find everything about PXG to be obnoxious, but at the right price I'll try anything.

Alright everyone!

We all know if you're a true WRX'er, you have a favorite brand. Your "ride or die" brand. Maybe it was because of a club you had years ago. Maybe it's because they made something you didn't own but always sought after. Maybe it's their tech or just appearance.

Now let's talk about about those OTHER brands...the brands you just don't even look at when you're online or in a shop. The brand that even if they threw a sponsorship, you'd say "ehhhh lemme think about that...". I know it's hard to not get too emotional but let's try to keep this nice and friendly.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Cobra. All started back with the 440sz. Not sure why I didn't like it and why I'm not a fan of their stuff but just doesn't rev my engine. Another brand would be Ogio. It all started when they came out with those Woode bags. I was caddying for a year when those came out. So many golfers at my course got them!!! The thought process behind putting the woods in that way just made no sense to me. Plus some golfers put their woods in the side slots as they designed the bag for but then others didn't follow that way. Not to mention, the straps were garbage and that bag was always heavy even empty.

Lemme know what brand you aren't a fan of and the reasons why you're not a fan of them!

Cleveland - All these years and havent figured out anything other than wedges

PXG - Parsons isnt doing the game or the average player any favors with his strategy. He's the Lavar Ball of golf.

Ping - Cant get over the irons, hate the look at address

Taylor Made - I used to be a disciple but the quality of the irons hasnt evolved and I hate the white driver.

I’ll echo the sentiments here and add PXG. I think the screws look tacky and lame. Parsons seems like a pud of a guy too.

Only other manufacturer I avoid is Titleist but that was simply because of a few run ins with snobby guys who play their gear, have staff bags, go through 9 Pro V1s in a round and act like they are amazing.

I gotta tell ya, some of the reasons for not playing certain brands are truly classic.

"Don't like the other guys playing that brand's stuff", "Hate it for some reason (don't know why)", "Don't like brands that are suing other brands (or is that being sued by other brands ?)".

And that's on just this one page,,,,,,,, :D

don't you just love playing with the prov1 snob that changes ball every 3 holes just cause they do on tv? and then cry like a baby when one goes into the woods?

I don't rule out anything in the future. I've never played a Ping anything as I don't like the looks of anything and I've never had luck in testing them. I've really soured on Titleist and their elitist bs. They make good stuff but others make just as good of stuff and I'd prefer to pay them. Outside of that, I'm pretty much a free agent and am open to anything.

I refuse to ever play a Top Flite golf ball. It's an irrational thing I just can't explain. Rock Flite always comes to mind.

I own Ping G series woods, gmax irons, and a Dodge Charger. Let's be friends.

I fail to understand what's so bad about Titleist? I give them top marks because they stick with what good players look for: no offset and thin toplines. This is not to say all their clubs have no offset because they do make clubs for high-handicappers. I am talking here about their premium sticks.

Titelist DCI 962

1991-97 Titleist Tour Model

Titleist 681

Titleist 690 MB and CB

Titleist DCI 762

Any AP2 model

Any DCI-B model

Their woods I also praise for traditional shape and zero face angle, most notably 983K, 905R and a few others.

How can you not like these clubs? Do you really need the bells and whistles?

Because other companies offer products every bit as good, if not better, for a more competitive price. I can get nearly any shaft I could ask for in a Mizuno iron without spending an extra $400, unlike Titleist. Don't even get me started on the pricing for Vokey wedges, Cameron putters, or Pro V1 balls and their frivolous law suits against anyone that threatens their golf ball market share. Many of their business practices are good for them, bad for the consumer.
