489 yards ?!?! DJ just hit it 489 on the par 5 12th in Austin.

Granted, it’s about as down hill and fast as any par 5 there is....but it’s still damn impressive!!

He had 85 yards left. Kisner had 230 yards for his approach....they halved the hole with birdies!! LOL!!

Edit....just found a GD blurb about it and why it’s not actually a record:

People wonder why we should scale back the ball? This is a massive joke to me how the TOUR promotes how far they hit it on these types of courses, or like when they are playing at 7200' of elevation like in Mexico.

But the average Joe see's that 489 number and thinks that they are some type of gods when it comes to how far they hit it. It's not going 489. Like you said, its massively downhill, firm, and fast.

People are enamored with the number of the drive, but in reality on a flat tee shot with average tour roll, it goes his average of about 310, which isn't astronomical by any means. If the long drive guys on a flat range don't hit it that far when that is their only goal, DJ or any other TOUR player sure as hell doesn't hit it that far.

Like I said, it's a joke, and the writers, or the media will blow this out of the water but never truly give the fans that don't have clue what really happens day in and day out on the PGA TOUR.

I honestly don’t know. There is a cart path that crosses the middle of it. Might have hit that. He could have just thrown the ball on the green from where he ended up.

I just walked in the room while he was getting ready to hit and Faldo quipped that they needed to call Brandel Chamblee and tell him about it because it was longer than the one Brandel kept raving about in Hawaii at the TOC where DJ drove the green on that par 4.

Brandel called it the best drive in the history of golf. Faldo was clearly taking a jab at him. Funny.

And halved the hole...

You mean Kisner didn't just give up after it happened out of pure fear?

How come no one complained when Tiger came on tour and was hitting wedges into par 5s or when John Daly won the PGA being 50 yards longer than anyone?

Don’t look at me. I’m not complaining. I’m just trying to process the idea of hitting a golf ball nearly 500 yards!!

He out drove Kisner by a mere 145 yards!!! Baaahahahahaha!!

They did. Not so much for Daly because he drank himself into oblivion quickly then was a sweetheart comeback story. But Tiger proofing happened at a lot of courses, including where he didn’t even play.

It's all the conditions. LD guys would be over the green there.

The carry across the water on #6 at the API is about 340 yards on flat land. Number of pro's that attempted it last week: 0

It is really like that scene in Tin Cup where he hits 7 iron down the road....fun...but pointless. Dialing back the ball is not it either...look at how different BW scores after switching back to a type of ball. I picked Noren...love watching him practice that shaft lean move on tee after tee.
