G400 Max...Holy Cow!!!

I’m sure it’s in here somewhere but how is the max compared to the LST. I’ve heard they are all within hundreds of rpm spinwise but curious if the max is that much more forgiving.

As a lifetime "fader" of the ball, the Max has all but eliminated the right side of the golf course.

I hate to be the guy that uses the term point and shoot, but if the shoe fits....

Missed two wet fairways yesterday, both were pulls but still very much playable.

I don't want to jinx it, but I don't think I've lost a tee ball since I've been whacking this club...

It's been in the bag since September, week 2 using it I won my league championship!

I'm not one who gets excited about equipment, but the G400 Max is the real deal.

As always, YMMV.

That’s good to hear since my normal miss is a big fade lol and that was my concern about the LST. Heard it’s more fade bias.

I was pumped for all the ‘19 releases but some of the early reports took some wind out of my sails, so looking at the max. Basically it’s the only club on WRX that everyone seems to like so I have to check it out.

Played my first 9 with my new G400 Max this morning. " Point and shoot" was exactly what I was thinking as I was playing.

For the folks that swing around 105 mph what loft and shaft did you go with?

I'm about at 105. I have a lst 10 degree adjusted to 9 degrees. Ping tour 75 stiff shaft.

About same SS and was fit at PING HQ in PHX and I could hit any shaft I wanted... left with Tour 65 stiff shaft at 45”.

Anyone playing the max or the lst with the hzdus t1100 or the synergy black 70tx shafts?

What's the performance like

Kale i play the G400 Max with the T1100 and to me it is the perfect set up. I am a high spin player and got fit for the T1100 6.5 tipped .5" soft. I am killing the driver. Not only am I hitting it straight but with the reduced spin I am getting roll as well. I am used to playing a big hook and have had to adjust as now it is a gentle draw. I am keeping the ball in play more and loving the ball flight. Very pleased with the T1100 and G400 MAX combo.

Sounds right up my alley

Have the lst now in an 8.5 and have a HC hzdus yellow 76g 6.5.

Just wondering if the max and the t1100 is the next step

Notched another win with the G max today. That’s 2 in 3 weeks since putting it in play . Best driver I’ve ever hit. Best balls are long. But directionally it’s stupid how straight it is. Literally better than I thought possible. I’ve had honeymoons with other drivers. But this is two pressure packed tournament rounds that I’ve not hit a single foul ball with. And more so today I hit it on some tight holes where I’d never hit driver before. And turned it either way I wanted. Twist face can sit on it !

Is the Max exceedingly better than the reg G400? I'm intrigued but it's so goddamn expensive. If you watch Rick Shiels 5 year Ping driver test (no, I don't actually like RS but this vid was interesting) he was getting the best numbers with the G20! Insane but it makes sense because of COR. I want a driver that is long of course but one that is very easy to hit straight and this sounds like the ticket. Currently playing 915D2 with Speeder 757 TX.

Hit my 8.5 lst up against the head Crusin1966 has in the G400 Max 9*. Both with my HC hzdus yellow 76g 6.5.

I think with my swing the lst in the big minus is just money. Flat out bombs

With a different shaft the max might be good. But it just launches a bit higher and looks to spin more with my smooth transition and 121 mph swing speed.

We are going to try and get on a trackman here soon indoors. Will try and get some comparison numbers to post up

Your swing is a thing a beauty. I'm so jealous of how effortless it appears.

I'm all in for a trackman session. It will be good to get some actual numbers.

I think with this kind of thing there’s a mental confidence. When people read that the thing is a fairway finder they will be more confident off the tee and may be more likely to hit target. Likewise if something is perceived as unforgiving they are defeated before they even take the shot - probably a large part of the reason more people don’t play blades. I like a small clubhead and feel confident over the shot. My dad ... not so much. He feels they are impossible to hit.

I sold my 17 M2 head on a whim to to try the 400 MAX 9 degree. I kept the AD-GP shaft as I really liked it so I slapped it in the MAX and it is hands down, by far the best set up that I have personally ever hit. Point and Shoot is an understatement but what I am loving more, in particular is the ball flight. It simply launches off there face then flattens out and goes forever. It is a very straight driver but it is also very easy to work the ball and is extremely forgiving. I can not say enough about it. I do not see this driver leaving the bag for a long, long time.

Good for you !!!

The trouble with some of us though is that it can get really expensive doing things on a "whim".

If Ping doesn't have the shaft for a demo I'm not "experimenting" like that even though I probably could (re-)sell it on eBay for only a slight(?) loss.

I got a bit lucky with my Fusion but I had hit the Hzrdus Black in another company's head and really liked it and it was also a handcrafted model and I got it for about $100.

Oh well.

What are some shafts you guys have tried with this club that really reduced the spin?

I use it with a matrix black tie 80

It still spins more than my F8+ with NV2kxv 65.

It's tremendously forgiving, but not a low spin head to me

Whats your swing speed/strike pattern?

When you say not a low spin head you mean not in the 1800-2200 range for you? I spin the regular g400 9 with atmos black 7x around 2400 on a high center strike and more like 2800-3200 on my low center

The ping tour shaft in what ever you flex needs are. Believe it is a UST shaft. For my the Alta 55S carries further but the Tour 65S rolls out better. Its what ever you need.

I love the Tour shaft in 65S.

I find it hard to hit an "optimal" ball with the MAX. I mean they all go straight, this thing drops balls in a bucket, but if I really nut one on the proper spot I can get 2500rpm....that just isn't the norm. Most are 3000+

My SS is 110-115 or so depending on day. Play the MAX at 9 with a black Tie 80. I'm a pretty good ball striker overall

I also have a 8.5 F8+ with NV2KXV, and I'm a good 10yds longer on an LM. Mostly because I am 2500rpm on every swing

I would agree, I don't think the Max is by far and away a better head than the regular. It's very good and easy to hit straight... for me that's why I like the regular head better. I can shape it a bit easier and I like the sound and feel better. I could game the Max again easily, though... very impressive head if you just want to hit it straight and long.

For me at 120mph I prefer the lst.

If I had access to all the lowest lofted heads in the truck and the hot melt gurus tweaking my clubs, maybe the max would be the ideal stick.

But for off the rack plug and play, the lst checks all the boxes for me and still is plenty forgiving

Hey Obee,

I finished last season at scratch, but i only played in my CC and nothing else. I had a baby last April (our first) so i was just happy to play a lot of golf, even if it meant playing at 6AM to get home early. I am hoping this year to be able to do interclub again , maybe a match play event and our CC. Unlikely more than that

I'm hoping to play a lot more events in 2020. My daughter will be in daycare , and i am joining a new course closer to home after this season. So that will help

Hope your step-through is still working and you get to play a few too :)

If i could get a 7.5 degree head or something with a Black Tie or D+ Limited , maybe in like 65g ( i am digging the NV 2Kxv oddly enough too).....i feel like i would murder it. It's a super idiot proof head. My dispersion on the LM today just looked like a straight line

If i hit 50 balls each with my 9 head and my F8+, the 10 longest shots would be with the Cobra though
