G400 Max...Holy Cow!!!

I’ve put the Max up against some of the new stuff from Titleist and Callaway this season and the Max has earned its rightful spot in the bag.  I even compared the Max to the 425 and hit them the same.  The 425 is solid but not necessarily better…IMO.

Still playing it. A bit too spinny, loud and high for me, but man does is go straight.

I put a Matrix black tie shaft on which really helped control the flight.

Not the longest for me, but so forgiving and straight I am willing to sacrifice the extra few yards.

had the same issues with it. Moved into a Mavriik Sub Zero but brought the G400 Max back out still dead straight. I think I am going to put a Ventus Black in it to try and lower launch and spin.

I’m keeping the Max. Looking to drop from my 10.5 to a 9 though…

My slice has gotten way better by taking my 9 to a 10.5 so I am afraid to change it back. I hit absolute moonshots now at 10.5 but if it helps with the slice, I cant go back and Im afraid to even try lol

Dumb noobie question BUT everybody says a driver has a lot of spin----what does that mean? Why would somebody want a high spin or low spin? I have a high swing speed and have trouble with keeping it straight, would I want a low spin driver then like the Ping G425 LST?

Hmmmm,,,,,, well this might explain (some of) that other thread.

Sans being outside the "window", high launch + low spin equals max distance off the tee, both carry and roll out. 👍

Too much spin = ball baloons into the air and you lose out on carry and roll

Not enough spin = ball falls out of the sky, lose out on carry.

Ideal is for low spin with high launch to get max carry and roll. Higher spin tends to be easier to control because ball doesn't fall out of the sky, but you lose distance.

Cam Champ and Byrson have similar ball speed, but bryson is high launch low spin, and champ is low launch mid spin, so Bryson hits it further.

I put a Graphite Design YS Nano Reloaded 60X in my 400 Max a few weeks ago, and it has been amazing.  I built it an inch longer than my Attas 4U, and I'm definitely getting more distance out of it.  I'd say at least a good 10 yards, if not more.  I've always liked the YS+ shafts, so it was like going home in a way.  I bought a couple 70X of the same shaft for my 3 wood and maybe my 7 wood.  I really wish they made an 80 gram version of this shaft for the 7 wood.  I hear the AD IZ is almost an identical profile, so that may be my last resort.  Also thinking about trying the AD MJ.  It's harder than I thought it would be to get this dang 7 wood nailed down.  But the driver is definitely good to go!

u don’t want a new driver, u want a lesson for that slice.

not to say you can’t build a driver that turns that slice into a nice repeatable fade, but getting a couple lessons for the slice will be more effective imo. Will probably save you money on clubs, golf balls, strokes, and most importantly time.

No need to sacrifice distance with moon shots. I know a new club is what u want, do what u want, but just saying

Saw this topic and instantly thought the “holy cow!!!” was in regard to the awful sound. Hollow tin can was my initial impression. They should sell them with a 25% off coupon for hot melting. 🤣 Everyone I know that plays a 400 or 410 has had it done. Still doesn’t sound good, but definitely better than stock.

I've been hitting mine for the last two years and still love it.  I'm not sure if I am a low spin player or not, but I seem to get as much carry out of it (285 yds with about 108 club head speed) as I had in any other driver I've ever had.  Plus, the mis-hits are really forgiving.

I've always been a tinkerer, but I haven't even changed the shaft out.  I wonder if I would benefit from a 400 or even the 400 lst or 425 lst, but it's hard to go away from what has been working.

Time for the twice a year check in....

Son still! games the G400 Max, still hits high, far and straight bombs with it.

Still game the G400, still hit way many more fairways than I deserve.

Both have custom-fit shafts and both are tested against ALL new heads from the makers when they go retail. We discuss these golf equipment topics all the time and agree if another driver had  better results it would be in the bag.

Put a G425 max in my bag , Not sure it’s longer than my Epic Flash but easier to find the fairway. See why people like the G400 series.

Still gaming the 400 max with Tour shaft. It's a fairway finder all day. It does spin up on me from time to time. I ordered a ventus black to try out. I have been having the itch for the new 425 max, but maybe a shaft change will bring the spin/height down enough on the 400. I have read that the 425 is supposed to be lower spinning, and if it's anything like my 425 3 wood, I would love it. The 425 3 wood is the easiest club to hit that I have ever swung. It's just dead straight.

Put the G400Max back in the bag this weekend after a little over a year with the Mavrik SZ. Hit so many. more fairways, but still spin it a bit much and lost some distance (worth it) to be in the fairway that much. About to try the Ventus Black 5X in it to see if I can get slightly less spin.

I got my Ventus Black 6S in last night. 104-108 SS. I have not hit any balls with it yet, but I did step out and swing it around in the yard. It feels like a slightly beefier, slightly more stable ping tour shaft. It seems like it loads in much of the same way, but just a little more stable. I was kind of surprised in the similarities, but of course it's hard to glean anything without actually hitting a golf ball. I was worried the Ventus would feel like a board, but it feels smooth. I am looking forward to getting a few rounds in with it. It's hard to move away from the 400 max. It's just so consistent, even when i'm not.

Currently putting a HZRDUS Smoke Yellow shaft in my G30, so had to borrow my wife's G400 Max last night for my golf league.

Great driver, I almost want to pick up a G400 Max head for myself. I can see why so many people love this driver. Straight, long and high.

My only complaint is that perhaps it goes a bit too high, but who cares if it always finds the fairway?

Anyone play the G400 Max driver with a Fujikura Vista Pro 55 shaft? There's one on eBay I'm considering.

I have the Vista Pro 65 (S) shaft in my G400 Max. The 55 was a little light, but I might consider it again if/when I eventually move to the G425 Max.
