Amazing - how was the total distance? About 290-295 with that spin? That's a good spin number but could be a little bit high for a modern take.. The 983E and K were such stunning drivers.

The longest driver I have ever played is an 8.5 983E with the stock Speeder shaft. Nothing I've played since can sniff the places I went to with that club.

I’m happy for you, but I almost don’t believe you. Are you saying that there is no combination that can give you better results on the average? That’s pretty amazing. Even if you don’t get much of a distance gain, there’s no shaft that helps you keep it in the fairway more often?

2018 Club Champion driver fitting and my Titleist 983e still wins. 106mph/2652 = 267 carry. Still just a chugging along. Only down side - I wasted 150.00 on what I already knew.

Β

Wasted $150? I'd say you saved $400 over a new driver you could have bought.

I have the YS6 shaft at 43.5”. The combination is easy for me to square and everything else works. I guess I got lucky years ago and wound up with what works for me. It’s nice to see that it’s atill holding up. You guys are right. I saved some money. One other cool thing about this driver is that it’s pretty easy to hit it off the deck. It usually cuts a little but it’s a nice wind cheater.

Β

True for me as well. It also feels amazing on centered strikes. There is one Par 5 at a local course I have only reached in two once (in 100's of rounds), using a 983e and 906F.

Β

That club reminds Jack Pearsall how much he loved the old ys6+ shaft by GD.

Β

I still play the YS-6+ in my driver, fairways and hybrids. It just works for me. I buy cheap, beat up, used 905 and 906 Titleists just to pull the shafts.

The difference is that its a game able spin number, pointless looking good on trackman if it falls out of the air on the course

found a 983k with one of those shafts on offer up for pretty cheap. Maybe I should get it. Actually it's just a ys6. Color is black.

I have a 983K and agree with those who say it is a bit spinny. I, too, just picked up a 983E (9.5*) with a Fujikura 757 Speeder stiff shaft. I am going to reshaft it with a UST AxivCore Tour Red 70g stiff shaft. I am not sure if I will do that as a full bore or blind bore (2 1/2 inserted). I'll do a comparison with my current driver (TM 2016 M1). I have two shafts (Graphite Design Tour AD DI 6S and a Mitsubishi Chemical CK Orange 70g stiff shaft) to decide which is better for me then I will compare. I remember hitting a lot more fairways with my 983K and was able to work the ball much better. We'll see in a couple of weeks.

Don’t mean to piggy back, but love threads like this........so much so, that I took the β€œplayed with twice last spring 905s 8.5” out for a spin and man, just so solid. Been playing the Ping G400 LST most of the summer and have enjoyed it, but the 905s didn’t miss a beat to it. I had played the 983e for two summers and hit that thing really, really well. Just moved on to newer and now it looks like I am phasing back to an old school look/feel. Played solid (72), didn’t drive it awesome, but felt like my misses were better. Probably finish out the fall with it. Confidence inspiring.

My 905R 9.5 with Grafalloy Blue S is 2-3 yards shorter than my 917 but is so much easier to hit and offline is so much more forgiving. Both were fit on launch monitors by Titleist. Those golden era Titleist drivers were untouchable.
