So Rory was right after all... this match was indeed 15 years too late. The standard of golf was pretty shocking at times, and the commentary from both Tiger & Phil and the booth was cringeworthy quite often.

 

Disagree. It was well worth the $20. 15 years ago it would have been worth $100 due to the tiger hype machine , But that's another subject entirely.

 

Rory plus anyone else wouldn't have generated as many viewers as today. Rory's point was that it was a bad idea , a " fail" as the young kids would say. Well. It really wasn't. Too many people watched go say that. Room for improvement? Yes. But 15 years ago all we'd have seen different is a little less gracious tiger and maybe a Phil who would have took the win form a tiger miss . Otherwise same same. Either could have won 15 years ago. Same as today.

Absolutely incredible event, if you paid $20 then you got several times your money's worth. Just amazing, probably the best golf event I have ever watched. Let's hope it's an annual occurrence! TW ba Rors for next year!

Agreed. I like Rory, but unfortunately, he was wrong. This is relevant today as shown by a 51 page thread. And as shown by my non-golf friends coming over after I ordered it.

 

We all enjoyed the match. Casual viewers don't care about Rory, even if Tiger and/or Phil are past their primes.

 

If Rory could've pulled off the same thing, why wouldn't he? Unfortunately, it's because he can't. For better or worse, name recognition still plays with the casual golf fan.

I went to my club to watch it with a bunch of friends, the bar was packed and everyone enjoyed "The Match". It was entertaining, Phil and Tiger showed a lot of class and overall I think it sets up future matches on PPV so no, Rory wasn't right.

Boy, I sure wish I had invested $20 of my money to watch this historic event. Instead I wasted it on a worthless actual round of golf in 75 degree weather.

My take on this s*** show:

 

- would have been better with little to no media

- would have been better with cameras “out of the way” so to speak

- would have been better with fans more out of the way

 

I guess what I’m trying to say is this would have been better if it wasn’t such a production. Walking down #1 fairway Figjam and Tiger are talking about how SLJ is “the king of cool.” No one cares about SLJ in this match, but Figjam was trying to break the ice because it was so f****** awkward to start out. The production was way over done.

 

Would have been so much better to have Tiger and Fig mic’d up and then get the hell out of their way. No hoopla, no interviews, no cameras from every angle. This was like a weird stage play.

Edgy stuff... deadsolid is a valued member of this community whos always down to talk golf. Hes sincerely asking what happened and wanted members perspective.you know some people are away from screens and phones for a bit this holiday weekend and some are travelling.A little less snark and a little more kindness would go a long way.
