Cobra's new King F9 Speedback Driver, Woods, Hybrids and Irons (NO BUY SELL TRADE POSTS)

GolfWRX

Recommended Posts

Cobra informed me yesterday that a Tour F9 driver I ordered a week ago after a customer fit will be shipped April 3/19. This is in Canada.

... You would know better than most, but doesn't Cobra usually under promise and over deliver? That has been my experience ordering with them. Not that you will need it before April 3rd in Bob and Doug country. :(

Sam that is usually the case but,......the F9 is immensely popular. :taunt:

I could be wrong if I looked back thru the thread again, but it seems like not many are comparing the f9 to the m5.....Any one have any thoughts....I tested the two head to head twice (not properly fitted by any means) and have had better results with the m5 both times....Still something makes me want to give the cobra a shot.

Have an M5 arriving tomorrow so hopefully I’ll be able to test them this weekend if the snow melts.

The M5 was spinning too low, knuckle balls that just fell out of the sky and sounded a bit different than the M6. The m6 gave me similar ball flight as the F9 and seemed much more forgiving

I really like the look of the m6/m5 but haven't been able to find a lefty m5 to test. The m6 does look very similar from side profile with the back dropping down; I am going with the cobra this year to start but will test it against an m6 at some point as I always seem to fare best with taylormade drivers.

Interested to hear anyone else who has put these head to head as well.

Nothing is as loud as the Epic Flash I hit yesterday...Man that thing sounded like the old G30 from Ping... funny how people change their minds..now its being called a powerful sound lol. That thing was obnoxious

Yes the Flash sounds a lot like the old Cally F5 tour.

My take after a demo day that had trackman set up was the M5 with the weight forward is just silly long.

F9 9 degree head seems to play a lot like the M5. F9 10 degree head plays a lot like the G400 Max, but the “Tour” setup was giving me more speed with consistent center of the face contact. Would be interested in other people’s expereience with the different F9 lofts.

I hit the F9 today with multiple shafts during a fitting. Really solid club. Looked better than the F8 in my opinion, felt very solid and sounded great. For whatever reason the head kept producing too much spin for me. I wanted to like it but it just didn't work for me.

Put the Accra TZ5 in it, I had the same problem but this combo is a rocket launcher

Did you sell your Epic Flash yet ?

Been trying to reach you via the board's messenger and posted on the BST thread but you seem to not be paying any attention.

If you've sold it you should close the listing.

If you haven't you might want to visit your listing and/or read your messages. ;)

Ok, I posted previously that the F9 with Atmos Black 6x gave me the best numbers of all the manufacturer's at a demo day this past Saturday in Jupiter, FL. It dropped my spin by about 400 rpms while at the same time increasing my launch by a degree and a half and adding 2-3 mph in ball speed over my Ping GMax. I love my GMax though and have been playing very well with it but I know I'm leaving some yardage on the table due to more spin than is ideal, even with a digitally lofted 9 degree head.

Anyway, I went over to Moon Golf (the retailer that ran the demo day) for a second fitting to see if the combo that worked best on Saturday would still be the best fit. The fitter there told me that he'd of course set me up in the Cobra but that he wanted me to try several other offerings to be sure we weren't overlooking anything. Anyway, long story short, I hit 5 shots with the Cobra F9 Atmos 6x and my numbers were perfect and almost identical to outdoors over the weekend. Spin was around 2400, launch around 13, ball speed at 156 and smash factor right around 1.5. The only negative is that my club head speed/ball speed keeps going down compared previous years but at 51 YOA that's probably to be expected black%20eye.gif . Not that long ago I remember 160 ball speeds and going back further even 170+mph at my strongest. Oh well!

Anyway, after trading in a bunch of stuff that's been rattling around in my trunk (that I could have gotten twice as much for if I sold it on the BST), I walked out with a new F9 in Avalanche White with the Atmos Black 6X shaft for $46. I'm playing Admiral's Cove tomorrow so should be a good test run for the new big stick. Will report back...

How often does Moon Golf run their demo days ?

I was going to go to one they had scheduled about a month ago but it got rained out.

just purchased my F9 Speedback Driver! 8*+ Avalanche

playing with my 65g Kuro Kage XT that was on my King LTD Pro, couldn't believe the gains this thing had over my LTD pro....

Ball speed numbers were increased by 5 MPH than usual, with the weight forward, I was able to get a personal long... and it was so much more forgiving than the LTD for me personally.

Ball speed: 165.4

Distance: 295 YDS

Total Distance: 328 YDS

Back Spin: 1933 RPMS

Side Spin: -64 RPM

this might be the best driver for value on the market right now. The fact that its $150 CDN cheaper than the other offerings is HUGE.

I can't get these numbers to work out on FlightScope. What is your altitude and what was launch angle?

That's gotta be a foresight.

GC2 at Golf Town.

As with any indoor LM I would take the numbers with caution. Maybe if it was GC Quad I'd feel more concrete.

Launch angle was 10.8* according to GC2.

Lets take 10-15 yards off the total distance and or carry distance...

I'd still be happy. After a bit of tinkering and lead tape, with my shorter 44 inch Kuro Kage putting some weight on the head helped feel where the club was on my back swing. I was able to get really consistent with contact.

Currently cobragolf.ca doesn't have the new weights as a Canadian option. However I see they are up for $25 on the US site.

HINDSIGHT... I probably should of ordered off cobragolf.ca and picked the tour length version with heavier head..... but GolfTown gave me $150 for my old LTD which I purchased used 2 years ago for $150....

That works out. I’m at similar ball speed, but more like 14 degree launch and 2500 spin. If you could keep your spin at 1900 and get that launch up to around 13, you could pick up 6 more yards.

Got my first round in with the F9 yesterday. I played it in the stock set-up with heavy weight back. Mine has the Atmos Black 6x at standard length.

I enjoyed hitting it on the range in warm-up and was able to comfortably work the ball in both directions. It was pretty windy yesterday, so I got a good sense of wind performance. I will often grip down to the bottom of the grip to flight the ball down into the wind or on tight driving holes. This shot was very easy to execute I think largely due to the Atmos Black 6x being tighter than my previous AD IZ 6x. The feel/sound is muted (coming from Ping GMax) but gratifying.

Admiral's Cove is a very tight course with lots of trouble. The windy conditions didnt make it any easier and it's not the kind of place where you can just step up and smash driver. Overall I played pretty bad (shot 81) but felt good about the F9. I only missed 1 drive where I tried to hit a hard draw into the wind but pulled it into water. It was hard to get an idea on distance since it wasnt my home course and I only hit a couple drives at full bore.

Today I'm playing my home course so I'll have a much better idea of distance and will report back. I may try it today with the heavier weight forward.

Mine finally got in from tha site in Ireland. No extra weights, but all other specs look good.

This is a light head, picked up a 10g weight off BST, plugged 14 in back, 10 in front, now feels right, on the simulator Sunday.
