Yeah I thought that was weird especially since they are buddies and it’s his hometown so figured he’d stick around.

Portrush will get at least two more Opens, have heard that from a good source. Next one probably in 2024-26 sort of time. The R&A put millions into the course and infrastructure so wouldn't do that just for one year, was with the intention of future tournaments. And that was before this week was a massive success.

Didn't take anything away from Shane. As I said in a previous post, he beat the pants off everyone else for three rounds and was only bested today by Finau who shot even par.He put himself in a nice position where all he had to do was hold on. Still doesn't mean the final round wasn't extremely boring to watch.

You guys seem to be forgetting that 2019's biggest event is only 5 months away.........yep, The Presidents Cup.

I'm almost giddy with excitement at the prospect of Tiger and Ernie trying to ramp up the new duel in the sun (albeit it is Melbourne and could be raining)

Brooks even went so far as to say Holmes isn't slow (which he really is, but yeah not like some amateur taking 5 practice swings and then stepping back every single time slow) just doesn't get his process started. For pro's it's just I think their way of being concentrated on golf routine, but it's not so hard to created one where you are deliberate but with better timing.

the R&A interview on Wed stated that they have 10 courses that are part of the rota ... having stated that Portrush is to be given 2 more by 2040, it's safe to assume it is one of the 10 ... TOC, Carnoustie, Muirfield, Troon, St Georges, Lytham, Birkdale, Liverpool, Portrush, Turnberry ... from a caddie at Royal Troon, Turnberry will receive one once its owner is no longer in office (understandable), though the caddie also stated one condition is that it would not be referred to by the media/RA as "Trump Turnberry", only Turnberry ... he said it as if he knew for certain that it would receive a bid, and that the condition was well know, and when one is in scotland on a trip with a caddie at Royal Troon, one takes anything said by the caddie as fact ... so tifwiw ...

I enjoyed all 4 days, love watching links golf since I don't often get to play it, it's a completely different game from most US courses, especially given the weather today. Was pumped to see Lowry win, not really a fan of his but great for Ireland and the fans to have a local win. Best part was except for a few idiots that were likely from the US, there was minimal Baba Booeys and Mash Potatoes shouts after every drive.

On the other hand, Royal Melbourne is better than EVERY course that's hosted the Ryder Cup.

Well of course. Being that the PGA tour doesn’t run a major they desperately want one.

So get excited for the Players in 8 months and not having to wait two months after the Masters for another major.

Why does the event that used to be effectively the premier championship tournament of the Tour still have major status when it no longer is a tournament of the Tour, and the event that actually is the premier championship event of the Tour does not have major status?

Back in the 1950’s they used to sometimes play at quality courses like Royal Lytham and Pinehurst 2. But yeah, the course will far surpass anything in recent memory.

And Christy O'Connor Jr's 2 iron on the 18th - at the blah Brabazon course - is better than any shot that's ever been hit in the Presidents Cup ;-)

I want a tournament to have drama coming down the finish. Not once did I get any sense that Lowry was in trouble, nor did I get a sense anyone was going to make a run at him.

And it doesn't have to be big names. Just give me a few guys working a shot or 2 of the lead standing on the 15th tee.

Because what golf really needs is another Major championship in the US

You know, it is possible to have a big, important event and not have it be a major.

And back to Portrush.

Fans. 10. Location 5. Course 8 ( it is a top class championship venue but the hype has been excessive...RCD is still Northern Ireland's premier course). Golf...3 rounds good and then most of the field got lazy...wind and rain and they cannot hit a green for toffee. Winner 10. SL is such a down to earth bloke and has an amazing short-game. Looking forward to Sandwich next year.

Presume this has been discussed before and similar in my world to preferring Royal Melb over Kingston Heath.

That said, having played both courses a couple of times I'm firmly in the Portrush camp and believe that the RCD hype is excessive and rater driven.
