After surgeries and sitting out, I think she’s being realistic with her game and her injury. I think it’s a lock she’s done for the year, if not bound for another surgery.

I'm kind of indifferent towards Wie, but the following may come off as a hater. One, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the end of the line (mentioned earlier in another Wie discussion). Injuries/recoveries are a bit random (see Tiger) but I think if she can play a couple more seasons healthy and make cuts it would be a good outcome. Another win would be amazing. I'm not a doctor but the fact that she couldn't play earlier this year didn't seem right. We know her body has taken a beating in general, and it doesn't get any easier when you get older.

Second, attempting to play while hurt or not fully recovered because of watching the Warriors players seems really stupid (didn't read article, just headline). It could have been random bad luck or Klay/KD could have gone down with much worse injuries due to playing with the existing ones. Of course, they probably get blasted as babies if they don't play, and from the outside it's hard to know the extent of "bangs and bruises" vs. "something that is on the edge." Regardless, it seems kind of clear that Wie can't swing a club the way it needs to be done right now (unfortunately).

Shouldn't have rushed the return. I hope she withdraws to eliminate the chance of further injury. Nothing to prove at this point, as making the cut is highly unlikely.

Flat out set herself up for failure in this tournament, her team or herself should have realized not to give it a go. She’s not even close to a return to tour.

Although I feel terrible how her career has turned out she’s gotta be so so so much smarter about how she takes care of her body.

Take truly EXTENDED time off and get away from golf and away from Leadbetter. Try again in a couple years. She’s clearly way too injured head to toe right now.

Sad outcome thus far

No idea why they're rushing. There are plenty of players winning, or capable of winning, in their 30's. She's been out there a long time, and might feel old, but they are not looking at the big picture. IK took an extended break, and she's in contention often even though she plays a limited schedule. NYC also took an extended break.

I think we all know why MW and all the others came back (possibly too early), the same reason everything happens on the tours = $$$. Those closest to her are keen to keep the money train rolling while it still can. Lots of players have play for pay endorsement deals, so if you're sitting at home the cash doesn't roll in.

I hope she can get healthy and play her best golf again.

Well, if anyone questioned whether or not she wanted to be out there, we now know the answer. She clearly does and it means the world to her to be on Tour.

Based on what I've heard, she is viewed quite positively by her fellow competitors. I think she's well-liked. So it's sad that things are hard for her. She does look like an innocent victim at this point.

But honestly, she has so many haters I think it's kind of a win just to see how much it really means to her. I think she's going to get a lot of sympathy having shown a little emotion there.

That definitely wasn't a moment where someone is crying about a bad score. That was someone unsure of their future in the game they've grown up playing. I'm with most of you guys. She ought to sit out and get as healthy as can be. I don't think these moments are worth the price. Gutting out an 84 is not worth it.

Get healthy and come back when it's safe. And if this is the safe comeback, try and find a reduced schedule that you can manage. And if that's not possible, get ready to walk away having proven yourself.

Don't count me in on this "we all know" business. Most pro athletes don't get where they are in their respective sports because of money, it's love of the game. The money comes after they achieve success. There may be some odd situations where a player plays while injured to meet a contractual obligation, but that's not to be confused with money grubbing or the like on the whole.

I don’t think she has any haters or enough that it’s perceived that she has a lot of haters. Just because people question her success compared to hype and/or ability or that her career isn’t that great due to the amount of time away from injuries is hating.

It’s amazing how anytime people share opinions about someone they are haters.

In the post round coverage on the Golf Channel, they were discussing the injury, and Arron Oberholser described his wrist injury that was very similar: [https://golfchannel.com/video/2019-kpmg-womens-pga-champ-michelle-wie-rd-1-highlights](https://www.golfchannel.com/video/2019-kpmg-womens-pga-champ-michelle-wie-rd-1-highlights "https://golfchannel.com/video/2019-kpmg-womens-pga-champ-michelle-wie-rd-1-highlights").

Wishing things work out for her. Not playing because you don't care or have no interest anymore is much different than not playing because something like an injury is preventing you. I know she hasn't met the proverbial hype, but you can tell she loves the game and like any athlete is a fighter in spirit - heck any of us who ever competed on any level can relate to some extent - and sitting watching silently kills those athletes inside.

On a lighter note, a severely injured Michelle shoots an 84. 84 is a decent-ish score for my weekend. Thank you Jeebus, for once again pointing out the vast difference between a pro and a hack.

I resisted posting here cause I'm over Michelle, but really, she's been off golf for 2-3 months and picked up clubs for the 1st time last week. She also making swing changes to compensate and take stress of her wrist and she's shocked she shot 12 over on a course and set up that might go down as one of the most difficult the LPGA has ever played, give me a break lol. I'm quite sure Jennifer Kupcho and Gerina Pillar aren't saying "dang, that was bad I better call it a career" lol Listen if it's a pain thing and that doesn't allow her to play well that's one thing and too bad, but injuries have ruined many careers, I'm just not ready to say the injury itself was the result of her score yesterday and predict she's done.

The story I read on it she did not say she was shocked...just the opposite. Coming back from a long layoff and hitting balls for the first time last week AND Hazeltine. There was not much expected.

_Before she was led away by her mother, Bo, who hugged her daughter close as she cried, Wie said: “It was kind of a little foolish to think that I would shoot really well, just hitting golf balls last week, at Hazeltine. It’s a tough golf course, but I’m really, really happy that I played. Just feeling a lot of joy just being out there and, you know, competing again.”_

I was surprised that she was playing so soon after surgery and now she's paying the price...and that price is heavy. She should take the rest of the year off for her to heal naturally and "get busy" with her fiance in the meantime. Tiger did and he's doing ok.

when will she grow up and be an adult, it's just weird to me. Being around your parents 24/7 is not healthy when you're an "adult"

you need to be good, you need to be lucky, and you need to be healthy for everything to come together. It can all come apart at the seams at any time, and there is never going to be a shortage of individuals motivated by your or others success. Time almost always turns the page on most athletes, health can do it even quicker. I hope she recovers and finds a way to come back.

Golf has a way of testing everything about a person- from the physical to the mental and emotional strength to the business acumen, few other sporting careers can be derailed by being out of balance the way a career in golf can. MW has been both a victim and beneficiary of the hype surrounding her POTENTIAL all her competitive life. Her parents carefully cultivated and marketed her to maximize her compensation. It now appears her actual career as a pro will never sniff the POTENTIAL which was the bait used to sell her to sponsors, media and fans. Going forward the real story will be how she tries to balance one more thing- marriage. Hopefully it will be a more satisfying journey than her pro career...

I called Vegas and there's pretty good odds on her parents rushing her back out in tour. People who know that weird relationship, and that of many of the female Korean players, often wonder what she could have done without her parents overbearing interference.
