New callaway driver “mavrik” (Pics added Page 8)

Are all 9 heads coming to retail? I would like to demo the mavrik but if I have to demo 9 heads to know I got the right setup then I'm out.

What I don't get is everyone is comparing Mavrik to Epic Flash like it's replacing it, which it's not.

All reviews/comparisons of the TM SIM have been against the M5; the driver it's replacing. Going along those lines all reviews and comparisons should be Mavrik/Max/SZ vs Rogue/Draw/SZ and not Epic Flash/SZ

Got to hit them today, very nice! Not a fan of the orange, but hated the green even more, so an 'improvement'?! Feels a bit head heavy, but measured D2. Riptide shaft was solid! Great stock shaft matrix! Looks great at address. Should be a good seller depending on price point. Don't know what they will be retail yet.

I got to see this today in hand. Wow they going big with the stock shaft offering's. Indeed the Aldila 130 msi white and EF Riptide. I saw the fairway which looks amazing and the smaller pro hybrid which also looks perfect!! Pretty impressive!!

On a side note I also help the SIM and Speedzone its going to be a really tough choice between them all but I think I can eliminate the SIM due to a shallow face and watered down stock shafts. It will be between the Speedzone and the Mavrik!!

Can't wait to test these!!!

Do we know if the Callaway shafts are watered down? I’m sure they get a bulk deal for pricing but are the Aldila 130 and Riptide really going to be the real deal? That would seem like it would water down both of those models in the aftermarket shaft sales. I’m just curious about how it all works.

The IG post was pulled down after numerous people pointed out how horribly flawed the test was. I mean, where does one find 40 testers that can hit a 9° driver turned down to 7° driver?

Yeah test was definitely flawed. Wonder if Callaway got involved and pulled it. He took down the address pics too?

Callaway did get involved, we will have to wait until after the driver is released to comment on it. The averages we got were from one tester who was able to go through an adequate warm up and test.

There were other testers that we commented on, but the averages from the test itself was just one person. Hope that clears things up. Cheers ?.

There is no way it is a “real deal” Aldila 130msi white. That is a $400 shaft on its own.

Reak deal shafts are never really offered in off the rack clubs.

only one I have seen a real deal shaft in is Pxg and their handcrafted hzdus shafts

Exactly my thoughts as well. The riptide isn’t even out yet. No way project x is going to water down their new $350 msrp shaft at release by offering the real thing in a stock driver, imo... I just find it interesting that guys are ripping TM for offering the watered down Ventus, when it seems fairly obvious that Callaway is going to be doing the same thing with other shafts, imo...

Seems like as good a test as what seems to be the benchmark around here which is watching one guy with a swing speed that 95% of golfers will never get within 10mph of.

PX doesn’t do “watered down” shafts anymore. If riptide is being offered then it’s the real deal, same design and build just probably not the small batch. It’s been confirmed already by TT the smoke green being offered in new cobra and TM products is the real deal smoke green just non small batch

I have to disagree. It wouldn’t be unimaginable for this to be a strategic marketing play for the partnership between Callaway and TrueTemper. They have partnered for a while on their woods combinations. It’s all about perception. Making the consumer think they are getting a $350 Shaft bundled as stock with their OTR driver is enticing. $350 could easily just be a number set in collusion between manufacturers to help generate sales.

The smoke green is a totally different profile than the Hulk, just a smoke black with a stiffer handle, so I was told/shown

PX's are the same shafts, the non HC/SB ones may just be further from the original design specs due to manufacturing process blemishes, correct? Hand Crafted/Small Batch just guarantee that it'll be very close to spec. A manufactured non HC/SB could nail the specs on the numbers still.

The Hulk is the TX version of the green. Which has a very different EI curve. But, the green is still a very good shaft.

The hand crafted, small batch thing is literally just marketing. They are made in the exact same fashion and process as the standard shafts. They are just made in headquarters in San Diego. Now extra steps, no tighter tolerances. Just in some cases a fancy paint job. and the little stamp just below the grip.

 

I think that is why they switched from hand crafted to small batch. Because they simply do not produce a ton of shafts in San Diego. But almost all shafts are hand rolled on mandrels.

That is why I said smoke green. As posted, hulk is the TX profile. Smoke green is listed on PX website with specs to the show the difference from Hulk

I am no shaft guru, just was told about the extremely different profile from the TX. I am sure the green is a great shaft. I play the stock smoke black in my driver, 3/5 woods
