Odd box when quoting has popped up and TYPING LAG.

As of right now the lag is worse than it was the first time I reported it. Still, because that's what I user, with MacBook Pro, Safari - should be nothing related to how I access the site that causes this. Never has.

Now it is also back to when I want to quote something when I try to click on the little arrow down that should expand the box nothing happens so I can't edit said quote to the pertinent parts, or even review all of it so I can remember accurately what is says.

The keyboard lag on Safari on macOS is very bad.

This lag is awful. It will the kill the site. No one wants to wait before they can see their mishmash of letters, only to delete and retype.

BH, because browsers can execute code (essentially what they do when they interpret and present a web page), developers have written apps or tools that extend the functionality of the browser by doing additional code execution or interpretation of a web page automatically. Because the extensions are typically offered by 3rd parties, the browser does not act exactly "stock" the way the browser developer advertises. Sort of like adding a snorkel to an off road vehicle or turbo to a sports car.

Just quoted that and I have had no lag. On fast PC , Windows 10, using Opera, as Chrome has become a resource hog in general. Also, Opera has a built in adblocker . Not noticing any lag even as it auto-saves the draft.

Edit/Update: Just switched to MacBook Air (Sierra 10.12.6) and Safari (12.1.12) and lag is horrible.

there are plenty of framework sites on the net that give standard code for producing web pages such as this one, usually there can be very small anomalies but generally the code works across all equipment and software, Apparently there are many of them that are free, the problems associated with Golfwrx are due to programmers not knowing how to do their jobs. I do not want to say anything against the site owners as they are probably in the hands of a company that should know what they are doing, presumably they do not.

The new “enhanced editor” is a complete failure unless the goal was to limit posts to 1-4 sentences with no quotes or images. You can’t select relevant portions of a post to quote and you can’t delete a quote once you have it in the post. Typing is laggy and imprecise (iPad Pro - safari and chrome; MacOS w/ Safari). When trying to post quotes, images, gifs, etc. what you see is NOT what you get.

 

I mean, if you need a “Tutorial and Overview” for new posting software on a message board with a bazillion posts over 14 years, located on the internet where typing and posting to sites is pretty much uniform ... you have a significant problem. “Frustrating” doesn’t even begin to cover it. More like a deterrent to new posts.

I think it's pretty clear the issue is in Safari. I don't know if it is with Webkit, I suspect it is but I find it hard to imagine Vanilla not being able to cope with it.

Sure, there are issues. But in the grand scheme of things, given the number of users, each with unique setups in both hardware and software, mobile and desktop, old and new, etc etc etc it all works pretty well.

I've seen your take on the migration and new software, and you're opinion is yours. I'm certain it's been noted and filed away. But this bitter and continuous beating of the dead horse is not productive. If you have something helpful to add, I'm sure that would be appreciated. But you add acidity, toxicity, snarky sarcasm and more than a little crazy.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, but it wouldn't be so bad if you just let things run their course either. They'll either figure it out, or they won't. If they don't, then either they'll move on or we will. That's all going to happen with or without your cantankerous brow beating. You don't factor into anything. Let it go.

I'm on Safari (High Sierra OS, up to date) on a MacBook Air (2015 model, 2.2GHz Core i7, 8gigs of RAM), and the lag is horrible. I'm talking type a sentence and wait 5-6 seconds for it to appear on my screen. Sometimes, a single letter will take 2-3 seconds to appear.

But the lag is just one of the problems. Backspacing more than a few characters is haphazard at best, quotes are unmanageable, and the interface is just plain unfriendly. Even if speed is fixed, the design is poor. Usable? Perhaps. But just barely. The entire world is familiar with the Microsoft Word style editor interface (button for bold, italics, copy and paste for quotes, etc.) Why reinvent the wheel?

Listen, I love bullet points, underlining, indents, etc. that were supposed to come with the new interface. I use them all for clarity and emphasis in my informal writing, but none of that matters if you can’t type a simple message.

And to the site owners, mods, management ... understand that I’m not trying to be hostile. Just precise about the current user experience for many people here. Personally, I kinda like the new “clean” white layout.* But the new editor is baaaaaaad.

We run McAfee Total Protection on all computers, including this computer. Annoying lag exists as I type this and still unable to find a way to delete a post without posting and hoping it shows up as a draft. This editor is not showing any form of improvement over what was. My system is Win 10 Pro latest version and Firefox 62.03 with uBlock Origin installed.
