If i can recall, my first pro golf event was caddy at the Amana Open, about 1974/5. One pro in each group. I caddied for some Amana dealer from Ohio. Watched Gary Player take the 'washing machine', er, Trophy.

Then many years later went to a few Hong Kong Opens, 2010-12, about.

Have seen a few Asian and Thai pro tours while living in Thailand.

I can't remember all the years as I'm an old fart. All the below multiple times.

The Masters

Sanderson's Farms Jackson, MS

The Tradition Sr Birmingham, AL

LPGA tourney Birmingham, AL

U.S. Women's Open Old Waverly CC West Point, MS

Back in the late 80's I saw Nick Faldo play in a satellite PGA tour event in Hattiesburg, MS. The same week of the Masters as he didn't qualify for the event. Later that year he went on to win the Open Championship for his first major win. No more Hattiesburg tournaments from that point forward for ole Nick. Ha.

US Masters 18 (shame about the winner...);

Opens at Turnberry (94), Carnoustie (99, 18) and St Andrews (05, 15);

Scottish Opens at Loch Lomond (x3 I think; can't remember the years) and Johnnie Walker at Gleneagles;

Open Qualifying at Glasgow Gailes and Western Gailes. Great way to see some past major winners and Ryder Cup stars right up close.

Had never seen anything like the course set up and conditions at Carnoustie in 99, and probably never will again.

2013 Barclays @ Liberty National

My brother worked for them at the time so VIP passes and all you can eat and drink at the 18th grandstand - not bad for a first experience!

Next one going to be this coming April, somewhere in Georgia. Final practice round only, but I think my lid will be blown off entirely. 80 days and counting!!

favourite is still my first . English Masters at Forest of Arden, just outside London. Woosie won.

Saw Woosie, VJ, Ernie, Montgomerie, Langer, Seve, Retief, Faldo. That was the pinnacle of European golf. Woosie was Numero Uno in the world.

I also gave up my hope of becoming a golf pro of any kind. Hit the books hard after this.

Men’s open twice and women’s open once during my seven years I spent stationed in England from 1998 to 2005...have to say one thing the women’s open was pretty awesome you literally were right next to the players even got to point out a ball that got hooked into a tree by Natalie Gulbis she said thanks and gave me and my buddy a smile...she’s even better looking In person and this was when her dad was still out on tour with her ...he rocked the biker look too

  • 2 weeks later...

I think they could get an LPGA event here in Tucson. Plenty of great tracks that would set up well for them.

I don’t think anything here could handle the big boys though.

2019 US Open @Pebble Beach (spectator Sunday)

2019 Safeway Open @Silverado Napa (volunteer marshal thursday-sunday)

I think i would've been impressed more by the Safeway Open if i hadn't gone to the US Open first. Besides the fact i was working at one, i had access to the one of the clubs at Pebble. Lots of free drinks/food, had pretty good seats or we were right on the ropes by the puting green when the leaders played through. It's probably going to be really hard for any non-major event to compare to what i experienced at the US Open last year. Its like the first football game you ever watched in person happens to be the Super Bowl.

We're probably going to try and make it to the LPGA event at lake merced and the PGA championship at TPC Harding Park and i'll most likely volunteer at the Safeway Open, too

Masters 15, 16

Memorial at least 20 times

Web.com/KFT Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship 4 times

Senior US Open 2016 @ Scioto CC

Technically not a pro event but sectional US Open qualifying at Brookside CC and Scioto CC 2019 (Columbus, OH). Might as well have been a pro event since everyone from the Memorial who wasn't already qualified played in it

As a kid growing up in Iowa I used to volunteer at the QC Open most years, was there when old Slammin Sammie became the first pro to shoot his age in a PGA event. I was also there the year a young rookie named Tiger Woods was making his tour debut. Plus, when I lived out in Phoenix my apt was just a couple of miles from where they held the Ping LPGA tournament, so I would ride my bike down there and watch the ladies play.

Growing up near Akron, Ohio, one of my best friends in High School, his father was Executive Vice President of Marketing for Firestone. Had an automatic corporate membership at Firestone CC. Got to go see the PGA event there in the late 80's through the 90's multiple times. Got to play the course a few times too.

Was at the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine, and had tickets to the new 3M Open last summer, but couldn't make it. Planning on going this summer.

I’ve been to a couple of the SAS Tournaments in Cary, NC (Seniors). I was struck by how big some of them are, even Bernhard. Just as when I met some of the Hurricanes players, I was struck by how large their heads are. Joey Sindelar’s head is YUGE. Tom Purtzer and El Gato are much taller than I thought they’d be.
