Tell me about your magic 3 wood

Nike Ignite T60 3w - still to this day haven't hit a 3w better and if I could find one in great shape I would buy it! It was so good both off the tee and off the deck.

More recently the 2017 TaylorMade M2 Tour is what I have played for a few years now and it is really solid. Althought, I just recently picked up a Callway Epic Flash Sub-Zero 5w that has me seriously considering ditching the TM 3w to get an Epic Flash SZ 3w. Likely the 15* model and just turn it down 2 degree as I have my 18* 5w turned down a degree as well.

Mizzy ST190 TS w/ AD DI 6s has been magical for me. Pulled the shaft from my Ping G30 -- which I bought to get the shaft. So long and straight off the tee and surprisingly good (for me) off the fairway. The feel of my last swing with it this season will stay with me forever - a tee shot of a shortish, dogleg par 4...Wow! I don't know that I ever sync'd everything up like that before! I still mostly use my 18* Adams Tight Lies Tour w/ Matrix Code7 off the deck. That club was also a very pleasant surprise this year!!

My long time fairway wood excalibur was the Ping TiSi Tec 17* 5 wood with the F20 hosel. Loft effectively a little under 16*

Speeder tour spec 952x in it, the red one

I could fly this thing 250 over water, amazing

I have two Tisi 17 with open/flat hosels int he basement. Will try them in the Spring

One has an Accra 75x in it and the other a Graffaloy tour

My favorites since the Tisi

Rapture OG five wood, Rapture v2 4 wood, G25 four wood, 2015 GBB and the x2 hot 3 and 5 deeps

I have an dream 5w right now with the Pink NVS 85x in it and will try to find it a perfect 3w partner. I think chopping a blueboard ion 73x from driver to 3w length may be the ticket ... seeing as I am LOVING a blueboard 53x in my GBB driver at the moment

option B is my Oban Revenge 65x in a G400 3 wood

Magic 3 wood is my TS2 15* w/ Tensei Pro White 70S....have it set to "A2" which is 15* loft and 1.5* upright.

I can bomb the thing, sound/feel is excellent with this club and all the TS woods. Right in the middle of the Carbon crowned thud and tingy heads of Callaway.

I retired the 3W several years ago in favor of a 4W.

Right now, I have a 4W which is the 18° Alpha 815 lofted down to 17°. The shaft is a half-inch shorter than the 14° lofted up to 16°. The 4W/17° gives me a consistent 205 to 215 yards; the longer-shafted 16* varies from 185 to 225.

I have matched it with the XRail 7W - 21° and good for about 190 yards - and the two work well together.

I have owned a lot of "non magical" 3 woods over my golf years. I really never had a 3 wood that I could hit consistently off the deck, tee or out of the rough until I on a whim bought my first Tour Edge Exotics "trilogy" !

Trilogy to me has been magical and a great 3 wood to pair with my Ping Rapture v2 driver.

I'm sure I'll be the only one to recommend this 3 wood. Wilson Staff C300 15d. It's solid, muted, as long as anything, and has fairly good adjustability. Almost forgot to mention, it can be had very cheap.

I have a Aeroburner TP 3wd shafted with D+ Limited 70, and I just can't keep it out of my bag. I've gone through a bunch since, as recent as the TS2 (with D+ LTD 70), and none have been as consistent and long as the Aeroburner. It's tour issue with hot melt that gives me a perfect piercing trajectory, an anti-left ball flight, plus one of the best sounding fairways I've ever hit because of it. Sounds like a wooden Louisville Slugger when you nut one.

Honorable mention to a Tour Edge Exotics X8 Tour with Kuro Kage 70XT (but I haven't had it long enough to really say how deep my feelings for it run). Long, straight bombs, a pleasantly firm feel off the face, and a great look over the ball. Surprisingly playable off the turf, considering it's compact shape. Unfortunate that TE doesn't get more love in the mainstream, especially their fairways. Arguably the most consistent performers from one model to the next of any brand out there.

X2 Hot Pro 15 with the Aldila ATX Green.

Nothing special but it’s the one club that I can hit it and know where it is going every single time. May not be the longest but I have no intention of swapping it.

Hell it replaced my Callaway S2H2 with a Dynamic Gold so that tells you how I feel about 3 Woods.

I have an old trusty Nike as well, an SQ2 17* long neck built to Tiger spec with a 103x Blueboard. It has tested well against the modern stuff for sure, very consistent and solid feeling. Interesting choices! I love the original Blueboards as well. I have been meaning to harvest my 73x/83x/93x shafts from older clubs and get adapters on them. I have been meaning to try the ST190 fairways given how amazing the driver is.

I gamed a 906F2 for ages until it got stolen. I have a backed that i've been meaning to shaft up to see how it stacks up against the modern stuff. Great fairway!

This is one of the only other things I want to try to see how it stacks up to the 915FD. I really think that so much of it comes down to confidence at address. Lines, face angle as you mentioned, how much bulge and roll etc etc. Any reason you never went back to the original XR Pro?Definitely mess with shaft length. The standard 43"-43.5" is usually much too long. Even someone like Tiger plays his fairways much shorter. I'm working on dialing in my F6 Baffler as well since I love it so much off the deck. Great club for sure. Kinda similar to how to found my 915FD, hah! One of things I have been testing it against is a 2017 M1 as well and I found a similar feast or famine vibe with it. I need to mess with the loft as I think the spin issues are coming from too little loft. It is a beast for sure but isn't as pleasing feeling or sounding as the Titleist.

I play a women's tight lies head on a heavy shaft. Adams heads (I guess since women are shorter?) are flatter in the women's models. Its made a huge difference. I've been gaming it about 3 years. 16*, but I almost never use it off the tee I like a driver hit with a shorter swing on short holes, so the low-profile tight lies head is great. I've said "it'll never leave the bag" about a lot of clubs but this one has been through four or five seasons now and I don't even demo other 3 woods. So upright.

The women's face seems just as hot as the men's. Identical in every respect, except 3* flatter. Its a 2014 tight lies. Its also cut down 1.5" from stock. The thing is great.

Callaway Tour Issue Rogue Fairway 4+

Aesthetics ... Absolutely perfect (with minor spray mod by Continental to blend 'speed bumps' on crown).

Sound / Feel ... Perfect. Period.

Spin ... AGAIN, Perfect. Period!

Distance ... Wanted 260-265 yards out if it, getting closer to 270, touch more on some.

Shaft ... HZRDUS Smoke Black 80 6.5 (hit everything under the sun, Tour, Limited, Retail, etc. and this won out, OUTRIGHT!).

@Valtiel once you get your Baffler dialed in, you'll really enjoy it. The rails out of the rough have been a huge plus this past summer. I started out with a Nunchuk in it, and liked the accuracy of it, but had a hard time consistently elevating it off the deck, no matter the setting. Found the Speeder 8.3 with the TM graphics, and the accuracy was similar to the Nunchuk with a higher ball flight. I've settled between 2 settings. 16.5* with the heavy weight back or 17.5* with the heavy weight forward. Numbers are very similar between the 2 settings, but the deciding factor will be off the deck into greens. I'm leaning towards 17.5* setting because of the higher overall flight. Makes it easier to hold a green from 215+.

I have a Tour Issue Taylormade M2 2016 model with a Kuro Kage XTS in it that I will cry if it ever breaks... It is my favorite club in my bag. I will let pretty much anyone hit anything in my bag except that club. Its off limits.

I have so much confidence in it both from the tee box and the fairway. I don't even window shop new 3 woods just in case she finds out and decides to start acting up.

My first "magic" 3w was a Taylormade 07 Burner TP with an Aldila Voodoo SVS8. That got stolen, so I built another one the same, which was close, but not quite the same. Then I built a tour issue TM R9 head with the same SVS 80 shaft and have been using both of these for years. Recently built a 2017 M2 with an Aldila Rogue Black 80s. We'll see if that has the magic.
