Thank you for the offer! Mine was swing weighting around D6 I believe which was just a bit too high with a 90g shaft compared to the clubs around it. I have a tipping point with playing length, usually around 42", where I switch between swinging like an iron (negative AoA) vs. a longer wood/driver (neutral to positive AoA). I was trying to get the Baffler above 42" as a 3w replacement and I just couldn't quite get the weight under control. I have a better club for that spot now anyway so i'm cutting down the shafts i'm testing slightly and keeping one baffler as a strong 4w and another as an all purpose 5w.

I have always had SO much trouble hitting a 3 wood off the deck but I have NO trouble hitting my 16* hybrid off the deck.

I wonder if it's the shaft LENGTH ?

Have any of you guys had success at shortening the shaft and inch, maybe even 2, and having much better control of the strike ? I'd love to have a 13-14* 3 wood that I could hit off the deck.

Mine is a ‘17 M2 with a Tensei Pro White 70X. I looked through a bunch at a few stores trying to find one that looked the least upright. Definitely found a unicorn in this one and it won’t leave the bag until absolutely necessary.

Taylormade SLDR TS 14* with an olllld Accra Tour Proto M5-85. Thing still gets me mid-150s ball speed and plenty of carry. Best of all, it’s one of those clubs that I know I can hit any time and be in good shape.

M6 14* rocket 3 wood with a HZRDUS Smoke 70g 6.5. This thing is filthy long and accurate. Its the best 3 wood I have ever played. ***Disclaimer* ** I say things like this about every new club lol.

Oh absolutely. I don't go over 42.5" with any three wood, normal or strong, and lots of tour guys do the same. I think it is one of the big components that makes 3 woods so difficult for so many. Yes driver length is most often too long as well but you have a lot more room for error there. Not so much with the 3w, so definitely experiment with cutting down. I am 6'2" and I don't go above 42.5". I thought that was going to be me too as I loved my Ping Ansers but then I found them underperforming compared to modern driving irons, which I love. I know you're a big hitter, what 2 Hybrid are you gaming?Well i'm pretty sure that is required for membership here anyway

Totally agree here. If they weren’t so rare, I’m sure we’d see even more folks chiming in agreeing.

 

It’s really the first fairway wood I’ve ever gotten along with in my 24 years playing the game. Mine sets up a few degrees open so it’s really tough to hook it which has always been a problem in the past.

 

Surprisingly forgiving for the small footprint. Very low spin which is why the 4W loft (mines at 16.8 degrees) is perfect for my swing. On GCQuad, I’ve see high 150’s in ball speed (Average driver ball speed is ~162). That is super impressive for having more than double the loft of my driver. For those that actually have the super low loft TS (tour spoon) model – these are legit driver alternatives. I certainly wouldn’t want mine to go any further than it currently does, so for me, the 4W loft is perfect.

+1 to playing shorter wood shafts. I'm 6'3" and play +1/2" in my irons, but have shaved plenty of strokes off of my long game by playing a 44.5" driver and 42.5" 3 wood

I only trimmed 1/2" off of mine, and that alone has made a world of difference! My current F8 is the best 3 wood I have ever played with, used to struggle a lot off the turf and now it is a weapon. I shortened my driver to 44.5" as well, and that has paid off as well! I have not noticed any distance loss but my overall contact has been much better.

Agree about the driver. I trimmed mine to 44.75 and hit the SS noticeably more often. Then again, that could just be the shaft/head combo.

I don't have a lot of disposable income to experiment with a club I'd only use occasionally. My 16* hybrid is pretty consistent. Having said that, there are times when I wish I had just a little more firepower to get where I wanna go.

Maybe I'll go to the 'bay and take a look for a recent offering although I HATE buying a club "on the blind".

Unknown age Tour Edge Bazooka. I had it for years with some flimsy stock shaft and never hit it well. I put a Integra iDrive in it for a buddy of mine who wanted to try playing left handed. That was about 3 years ago and it hasnt left my bag. High baby draws all day.

I've been fortunate enough to have three of them. I don't like to change up my bag very much, and that is reflected by how rarely I change my 3 wood. My first was the original Callaway Steelhead 15* with an X100, second was a TM Burner TP 15* REAX 75 X, and my new one this year is a Callaway Epic Flash Sub Zero 15* with the EvenFlow Black. I only change when I find something that is clearly better.

+1. Same exact combo for me. Every other spot in the bag has turned over many many (many!) times since the 906 F2 showed up. I’m totally comfortable hitting all nine shots with it.

I carried a assortment of 3 woods over the years and just never could find one that really ticked all my boxes and i mean ive tried all kinds of variants of shaft head combos you name it. Until 2019 the epic flash was released and i truly couldnt believe how this thing performed. Have a tour issue flash 3 wood standard set to -1/D setting with tour ad TP 7s shaft that is just unreal i can hit whatever shot i want with this thing high low any window even hit the sexiest shot in golf with it THE STINGER. It is my go to fairway finder. I was fitted for it back in march of 2019 very first round of play with baby, i was 232 yards to the center on the green on a slight Dog leg right 526 par 5 plays downhill and my lie was not great down hill side hill lie the opposite of the way i normally like to shape my shot. I struck this thing OMG crisp and from the get go it was tracking. The lie was side hill right but the pin was tucked over in the back left of the green which made it quite hsrd to hit in 2 hell even in 3 wouldnt be easy. But the shot was unreal flies the full carry number im wanting and the pitch mark was literallly a foot from the hole. Luckily the greens were soft enough from the night before rain. The ball ends up about 10 ft for a slippery but makable left to righter for eagle which i missed tapped in for birdie. I knew righf then i was in love. Deffinantly found my STENSON. Im a bit of a tinkerer but thats one club i have set up and done. If you haven tried the epic flash 3 wood give it shot it will not dissapoint

nike vr pro, 15* @ 43" in playing lenght it the flat lie setting which i thought was the upright.

 

OFF the tee was great but it really performed from the fairways.

 

915 fd is good too but i finally gave in and set it to C2, 57.25* lie @ 14.2* of loft since i kept leaking right from the faiways.

909F2 with a very "Stenson-ish" Grafalloy blue X in it. It just works. It's not crazy long, but it's as reliable as a club in my bag can be. It's got a pretty sweet wear pattern too.
