Seems like PM is just focused on hitting is a far as the younger players instead of playing shots around the course. He is always hitting the risky shot instead of playing smarter golf. He sill has the game to win on the PGA Tour but as someone stated he might not be willing to put in the practice time any longer. I'm figuring he'll only play a minimal amount of tournaments this year and possibly play some of the majors on the Champions Tour. Father Time catches up with all of us, but stubborness is on you. I really wish he would play smarter and he'd win a lot more but that's PM I guess. Can you imagine the crowds at this year's US Senior Open if he plays?

I'm a huge Phil fan and not a TW fan, but Phil needs to learn from Tiger and stop chasing distance and focus on fairways and greens and make some birdies. I hate to admit it, but Tiger's swing is looking great again without over swinging. He may win multiple times this year.

I agree......IMO Phil gets a pass. To me, he remains relevant having won on the PGATOUR recently. After looking at Phil's 2019 earnings up to Aug.8, we shouldn't feel to bad for him.....LOL!

2019 Earnings: Estimated $39.4 million

Phil "the Thrill" finds himself in a familiar place in the golfing world -- right near the top of the highest-paid list, but once again looking up at Tiger Woods.

Mickelson isn't likely complaining, as he earned $2.4 million in winnings in 2019, along with an additional $37 million in endorsement money, shilling for companies like Callaway (ELY) - Get Report , Barclays (BCS) - Get Report , KPMG, Exxon Mobil (XOM) - Get Report , Rolex, and Amgen (AMGN) - Get Report .

Mickelson did win the Pebble Beach Pro-Am this past February, but has had an otherwise lackluster season on the links. Yet, even if "Phil the Thrill" is crying about an off-year, he's also crying all the way to the bank, with about $40 million in total earnings.

Second only to Tiger Woods....

He still makes a Boat load of cash hitting Bombs in the rough....LOL!

Here is another reason for distance control issues. He is playing the Epic forged irons. Those are hollow bodied no control irons. Except for today he seemed to figure it out.

Yep. I tried to point that out last tournament when I saw him hitting over greens. And was met with “ you’re nuts. He isn’t playing a GI club “ etc. I knew it was a bigger iron. Just hadn’t caught a close up pic. Why Phil why ?

I think he does care what people think. But not when it comes to golf or what he is doing on the golf course. Who could possibly know his game and his plan better than him? I get it Phil fans want to see him win again, and so they formulate a "strategy" for him - be like Tiger! I am sure Phil wants to win again too, otherwise why would he even bother to play? People like to say "oh he is just showing up for the sponsor money". Come on...has Phil done anything to suggest that is what he is about? Just show up and collect? He has already said there are certain courses/tournaments he just won't ever play again because they are too hard. Sounds like a guy who knows his game and where he can peak - like Augusta??? If Jack can win at age 46 out of nowhere at Augusta, and Tiger after all those surgeries, then Phil certainly can have the game to win there again as well. Not saying it is going to happen; but I give him a better chance than most of the top 100 young guns who really do not know that course anywhere near the level he does.

What's mind-boggling is that both Phil/Jordan cannot consistently drive the ball in the fairway. You would think that anyone with their talents could at least do that. So, it appears(and this has been said more than once) that what they have in common is simply trying to gain a considerable amount of distance off the tee from what their normal distance would be. We all try for more distance, it's what sells more clubs, but at some point you would think that they would just relax, slow down, and just put the ball in the fairway and let their iron and short game get them in the winner's circle.

Especially for Jordan, since he's already wasted 1 year and by watching him this year, it doesn't look very promising. Well, good luck to both and here's hoping they can get back to where they belong.

Young Tiger was the longest driver on the tour Young tiger was the best iron player on tour. Young Tiger was the best putter for 10 years on tour

Old Tiger still hits it long. Old tiger is really good with the irons. Old tiger putts pretty good

Young Phil drove it poorly. Young Phil was good with irons. Young Phil was great with short game

Old phil can't drive it well. Old phil cant hit his irons well. Old phils short game is just okay

This is what happens when you get old.Unless you can hang on to some grestness in your game...its over Johnny... its over!

Isn't he playing Callaway MB's from 6-PW? I thought the only Epic forged he had was the 4 iron.

Agreed,

Phil is on house money now. He doesn't care anymore. His legacy is solidified. Over 40 wins and a few Majors. Great career. He could win again but I seriously doubt he will ever win another Major. He would do very well on the Champions tour but I don't think he cares to much about it.

He is right when he says he sees no reason he shouldn't play on the regular tour. He hits it as far as anybody else. Why not?

Phil in contention at any event is great for the game. He still has enough to be competitive for a couple events a year. Love seeing him out there.

Phil isn't going to change his play style at this stage in the game. He has always played the low percentage shots and skated by on pure raw talent and short game prowess. It's always cool to see him in contention, however rare that is these days. It's very impressive that's he's been able to keep his play at the level he has given the degenerative arthritis he's had for so long.
