How soon before Spieth drops out of the top 50

I’m a huge huge Spieth fan and since about last year it’s been painful to follow him. Every week I have hope that he’s gonna figure it out and then every week by Friday its clear that he’s out of it. I’m starting to wonder if he’s just not as good as his 2015-2017 led me to believe. Someone made the David duval comparison and it might be spot on. At this point I would be surprised if he ever gets close to where he was back then and I am probably the biggest Spieth homer on earth. It’s depressing guys.

Jordan seems so lost. He has a 3-way miss, if there is such a thing. Either he needs to dump Cameron or dump Titleist and play something to minimize his missed. If he doesn't snap out if this soon, his mental state may get too far gone to recover from.

He seems to be getting worse. The dude couldn't hit water falling out of a boat.

He seems to be kind of in-between with his swing. There are guys like Rory, Furyk and JT who was born in golf families, who got a club in hand at 2 and has learned their swings like a kid learns a language. They swing the same year in year out without really knowing how. And then there are guys that learns golf later and really understand that swing is king. That put the effort into swinging, who talks about the swing in interviews and so on.

JS came out on tour attacking golf as some kind of sport. Asked his trainer to become numero uno. Great mentally, scored. Shouted get lucky at wayward shots. didnt talk much about his swing. Which was inaccurate at longer shots from the very start. Then golf in the end got back at him. Golf is golf and not a sport. Golf is the golf swing first an foremost. Some guys are born with it, it certainly helps being good at ball sports before starting golf later, but it starts with a sound swing. He reminds me of young Stenson, who had tremendous swing problems in the start, was gone for years hitting the ball everywhere. Like Stenson he might get things figured out, but i guess not until he has understood that golf starts with the golf swing.

Tiger was born into golf but is also a golfer. A rare combination, and i guess the results he has had is partly due to that . It also might have wrecked his body, constantly changing his swing, but the results are mindblowing and he’s the one golfer i like best hearing in interviews, constantly talking golf. I think that it’s a little bit of that Spieth needs, not born with a swing that goes straight.

Wow that’s a interesting way to look at it I can see that. I can see that he has never had the natural looking swing like rory or JT or those guys Jordan looks like he’s having to work hard just to make a swing. Hopefully he can get something figured out but ever since this season has started I’m pretty doubtful.

What on earth are you on about??

what baffles me is when it gets as bad as this, why not take some time away and find a quiet spot on the range for a month. I know he has sponsors commitments but he’s not doing them any favours the way he is playing, he could make it up to them in subsequent years.

Always has had an unorthodox swing and now add in his weak mental state, self talk and lots of failures on his mental history sheet .. and here he is

his c wing needs perfect timing and since he’s tried to modify his swing he has lost that element

The PGA Tour on Twitter keep putting up Spieth shots recently, but they're all "Spieth did this 3-4 years ago". Like they're still promoting him as one of the main stars, but have no new material to use. Shocking decline really when you consider how good he was for his age, you thought he'd only get better. Looking back at 2017 Open, it looked like being the sign of a great when actually those wayward shots and half-collapse that got him there was probably more of a sign of things to come.

It's also interesting to me that the most consistent player of all in the last number of years has actually been Rory McIlroy, who had a reputation of being a hot and cold player. If you had to put your life savings on anyone to get a top 10 in any given week these days it's Rory. His swing is timeless and stands up to pressure. Short game doesn't always, but having a load of putts for birdies is better than getting putts for bogeys over time.

My Brother is good friends with his brother in law and I asked him if he ever says anything about it and all he said was that Jordan said he just can’t feel it anymore with the swing. Said back in the day he could feel how his backswing was going and could correct just based on feel but now he’s lost that. Could be BS but thought it made sense. It looks like he’s terrified to start the backswing every single shot.

I stand by my opinion that the meltdown at 12 at Augusta broke him. I know he won a few times after - including a major - but I'd posit those were in despite of what happened there. Talent only takes you so far - there's a point it's no longer about just talent.

I mean, he was what? Like 22 when that happened? Man, I still dwell on some dumb shit I did when I was 22 - and that was 20 years ago. And it wasn't melting down in front of the world for all to see. That's tough to mentally reconcile and moreso when everything he likely see is "DUDE WTF IS GOING ON?"

I feel bad for the kid, man. I'd love to see him back to form but I just don't think he has the mental toughness.

I always thought Spieth was probably the GOAT overachiever. He never was the most physically gifted, and his swing always looked one millimeter away from shooting 80's at the local muni, but he was able to rack up W's with superior mental toughness and short game/putting. Those latter 3 things have long since faded away, and now hes struggling to stay relevant with basically mediocre PGA Tour player physical talent.

Hmm. Can't relate to his level of play but when I started sucking bad in $50 matches for a prolonged period of time, I changed my swing genie and it helped a lot.

No shortage of theories here. I think in his early years, he played too much which led him to overthink his game. It's mental.
