Handicaps 10 - 18 - What type of irons are you playing?

11 hcp and closing in on single digits. Game a set of Cleveland UHX.

Before my fitting I was convinced I'd buy a set of Srixon 585's, but the UHX's just blew me away! I prefer the larger size, as I've always gamed more SGI-type irons, and the kind of slight high-toe profile in the shortest irons/wedges really suits my eye. The lower irons feels really hot, which I like, and I think I might order a 4- and possibly a 3-iron in the near future. I haven't seen any disadvantages for me personally, in relation with neither SGI nor player irons.

The only negative is the look of the back of the irons, which is a tad too "techy" for my liking. I can only wish for the next iteration to have a bit of a cleaner look.

I haven’t played the D7 Forged, but I am currently playing the C300 Forged, which are terrific. 15 HC. I am not sure, but despite the traditional D vs C labels, I think the D7 Forged may be a bit smaller than the C300 Forged. Anyway, the C300 Forged are plenty forgiving, and feel and perform great.

As to this thread, 15 HC, with C300 Forged with KBS Tour 105 S in the bag. Getting my fitted 919 Hot Metals with Steelfiber 110 R adjusted right now, and those might go back in the bag. And I have been dabbling with my old reliable Ping iE1 irons as well, which are always solid and steady.

I might be a 10? No idea, might keep score one day and see I'm a 5, who knows. I was playing Nike VR Pro Combos but recently built a custom set of KZG Forged 2-M 3-6 CB's and 7-PW blade that so far I am loving. Almost wish I had a full blade set.

8 HCP

Played the original 770s since they were born with S300 stiff shafts

Just got the new 770s with Project X 6.0s and gonna put them in to play today for the first round of my year. Had a couple of range sessions but it's been so windy here, the results have been inconsistent.

Just got down into single digits in the last couple of years. Honestly believe the P770s were a big part of it. That and driving it a bit better with a lil more course management.

Curious to know what kind of performance gains you saw?

Trifecta of higher, longer, straighter?

Not that much difference.  I feel like I am more accurate with the 0211.

~11. Club hoeing for a few years here.  Used Adams Black CB2 forged (gave to my Brother), Used - Mizuno 825 Pro forged (sold on eBay to afford next set), New - Ben Hogan Edge with Recoil graphite senior flex shafts (gave to my 24 year old daughter), Used- 2019 Cobra F-Max Superlite (I hit the market just right on this buy/sell cycle, as I had them for a year and MADE $100 when I sold them [thanks headcovers], Used - Srixon z565/765 Combo- Project x pxi 6.0 shafts (now at the in-laws beach house so I don't have to schlep clubs).  And FINALLY a fitted set of the original PXG 0211 with MMT 80 gram Stiff shafts (glad I got fitted, as I would have ordered the 70 gram Regular shafts, but the fitter said with my aggressive transition that the stiffer shafts would work better for me - and they do).  Got them when they were $89 per club, a deal on which I just could not pass. These transition nicely to my 50/54/58 CBX2 wedges with Rotex shafts.

At this point, the only thing that might tempt me would be the new Srixon ZX series and I would again combo the ZX5 in the 5i & 6i, with the ZX7 in 7i - PW.  Our brethren here on Golf WRX have given them some great reviews.

But really liking the results with the 0211's, so the temptation is not overwhelming.  At least not yet...

PXG - 0211 (2019 version) - 5-PW - MMT 80 S

Cleveland - CBX2 50 / 54 / 58 - Rotex

L.A.B. Golf - Directed Force 2.1 - KBS Tour - Press No. II 3*

Snell - MTB  Black

About 14 hcp.  Now playing the Ping iE1's.  Prior played all kinds and like the older sets like Hogan CFT, Taylormade Firesole and Burner, Lynx Predator.  Also liked and played the Mizuno JPX 825's.  Played the Mavrik's and didn't care for them.

I wish I played some of those iE1s. I've tried a few sets and just never pulled the trigger because something else always topped them ever so slightly. I'm using Ping Eye 2's this year and it's been an adjustment to say the least but, I'll be using them this entire year before I go to something else.

Play whatever irons you want. Play blades if anything. They can make you better.

I was about 14 hcp when I stopped playing 16 years ago.  I got back into it at the end of the 2019 season when I picked up a set of TaylorMade Rocketbladez 4-PW irons.  This year's goals: fix my swing, lower my hcp to 9-10, get better at shaping the ball, and play a club that gives better feedback.  So I got the new Wilson Staff Model CB irons 4-PW, + AW.  It feels like I'm learning how to play golf for the first time, but so far I'm happy with the new irons.

I also picked up a new set of TaylorMade P-770 irons for a good deal prior to buying the Wilsons, but will likely sell them off.  I've been tempted to go back to the Rocketbladez until the changes I've integrated into my swing take hold.  I'm WAY DOWN on distance.

Just goes to show that there are so many ways to get to the hole. I also appreciate that this thread shows that people play what's best for their game, and what they're comfortable with instead of what "slot" they fit in.

15-17hcp here. Wilson D7 Forged KBS Tour S+ 125g. Looking at a possible set of Srixon ZX5/7 set too.

Went from GMax to G710 (hated them), and now I’m playing i210 which I’m not crazy about. I miss my GMax so much. Way more forgiving and so much longer than either the G710 or the i210. I sold them and it’s a huge regret. Now I gotta try and find another set of them with good heads and I’ll have to buy shafts to build them the way I want. Giant waste of money on my last 2 sets of irons. Hoping I can dump my G710s to help subsidize fixing my awful decision making🤦🏻‍♂️😂

I left my Gmax late last year, but I’m happy with the change.  Still have the Gmax.  4-SW, Ping graphite Senior shafts.
