Your favorite 5wood?

Joe Jordan

Recommended Posts

I am going back further in time than James---- When I carry a 5 wood it will be one of 2---- An old V-Steel with a Pro Launch Blue or an old Adams GT shaft unknown. The Adams is so ugly I call it the "Ugly Duckling". In fact this has inspired me I may put the "Duckling in the bag for today's play

Not knowing what distance gap you are trying to fill but I ditched my 3 wood and 2 hybrid for a 4 wood, best move I have made in many years.

F8+ is awesome as is 915, 917. I would love to find a 915 fd 5 wood myself, just hard to find especially in decent shape. Another one easy to hit is rogue. It sets up real nice at address.

i have a tour issue 2016 M2 head that I keep trying to beat but to no avail. The closest so far has been the 2017 m2 Tour 5 wood, but I didnt like the sole (very spoonish compared to flat bottom on the 2016). The M5 face height wasn’t tall enough for me. I keep kicking around the idea of picking up a tour issue M3 5 wood head since they had what looks to be a deeper face and are pretty reasonable on eBay now. At some point in June I’ll be getting a sim head from when I traded a bunch of things in to TM as well.

I've been playing golf for 19 years. The only 5 wood I ever liked was my Tour Edge Exotics CB2. That thing was longer than any 3 wood available at that time. (for my swing). Never found a 5 wood I would bag since I sold the CB2 10 years ago. Always played Hybrids to fill the gap.

Since we have been in Lockdown, I decided to try something different. I ordered the Cobra F9 5 wood, with the same HRZDUS Black Smoke shaft I have in my driver and 3 wood. I LOVE this thing!! I have it set to 19.5 degrees, and it fills in perfectly behind my TS-2 3 wood. Best part is dispersion. This thing is straight. Can move it at will, but a normal swing goes where I aim. Big bonus..... Cobra has these on their website at a very good price.

Ping G 17.5* 5 wood cranked down to 16.5* with Ping Tour 80S shaft.

Custom ordered when it first came out with D2 swingweight and their 5L Cord grip.

I've hit many great shots with it. Looks great also.

Ping G is a great 5 wood. Recommend it.  I also have a Callaway XR but the Ping goes farther and I like the Ping G better.

Kinda like asking who was your favorite gal...they all treat you good for a while and then they turn on you somewhere down the road.

I would go with my current of course, the TM Max with Ventus blue.  It is only about 10 yards longer than my 3 hybrid but the 5w goes much higher.  My 3hybrid can be kept low so it gets used in the wind and under the trees.

Best one I've found is the F6 Baffler.  Its a solid mix between just a FW and hybrid.  I've got an Attas 9s in it and I mean I can dig the ball out of the garbage with it easy.  not the best for tee shots in my opinion, but if you want a playable club from the fw or rough, this is the one.

I see this thread has made a comeback. I was playing the F9, but have picked up a Callaway Epic Max 5 wood. This club is long and very straight. I really like the height as it gets up there. I can also change the weights for windy days.

Bag is in overhaul mode

Ping i25 with the racing stripes has been a wonderful club for me.  Very solid, high launching but not high spin.  I found it forgiving as well.  Very soid.

Ooo, if that is an Attas International then I bet that looks killer with the Baffler head. I may need to get me one since the Pro Orange has moved on the Taylormade land.

I used to love my Ping i25 5w in spite of the goofy racing-stripe crown. And Titleist fairway woods are, as a brand, the traditional leaders in this category.

But right now I think the Ping G425 max (no turbulators!) is the best looking 5w ... ever. Perfect shape. Clean crown (no gloss!). Just the right footprint and face height to produce confidence from both tee and fairway. Playable at any handicap level. Pity they don't sound a little better, but it's not a dealbreaker.

It is!  Its such a smooth shaft.  I slowly bought out all the ones available on eBay, lol.  It just works, I've tried to get it out of my bag, but its just a 230 club from anywhere.
