Srixon 2020 Irons ZX7, ZX5, ZX Utility

GolfSwang

Recommended Posts

I just ordered the ZX5 4-iron and the ZX 3 utility to go with my ZX7 5-PW.

The Srixon appears similar to the HMB, but I just didn’t get along with the HMB in the 4 iron.

Each round was a struggle and I eventually went back to the CF-16.

I’m hopeful they will arrived before the New Year.

I've hit the ZX5 driver and all  I can say is that it is hot! Best driver Srixon has made IMO. Looking forward to trying the ZX7.

I'd be interested in your thought process/demo experience on going with the 7's rather than the 5's when moving on with the HMBs and Apex 16s.  I'm not as good a golfer as you are--16ish, slow swinger--but I play the 16s and am looking for a new set next season.

My experience with the HMBs and the CF-16 is only in the 3 & 4 irons.

The HMBs just did not work-not sure why.

I had them adjusted up 2° for me

but everything was off the toe or thin-not the club just me.

I’ve had the CF-16 4-iron for 3 years and it keeps sneaking back in the bag-usually off the Tee for tight Par 4s and longer par 3s. It’s just a solid club.

I went with the SX7s because I gamed the Z745s before I bought the J15CBs. The J15s have been in the bag for 4 years and they are still my gamers, IMHO.

The ZX7s appealed to me coz they look similar at address to the J15 and both are Endo forged.J15 too e may have a wee bit more curve to it, but it’s so subtle.

I finally took the leap when I saw the ZX7sole design; the cut away heel and toe. That design worked so well for me in the Z745s. The V sole was a motivator as well. I take a decent divot and the V-sole and the wide curved sole and leading edge grind on the J15s work great for me.Back 5 years ago, the only time you would see the extra detail on the leading edge would be the tour van touches-but the J15s had it and it worked for everyday golfer too, not just the pros.

The Z785’s sole were too narrow for me and just didn’t cut it.

To be honest, I think the J15s feel softer than the ZX7s. The ZX7s feel real good, but more powerful-a bit firmer than the J15s. Still incredible and similar to the 620CBs.

It’s gonna be a tall order for the ZX7s to unseat the J15s, but they’ve got the best chance as any over the last several

years.
I won’t know until I can get back

on the launch monitor after our latest restrictions are lifted in mid-January.

I can’t wait until these hit our retail stores!

I hit the Tsi2 and almost took the leap, but the ZX5 is on my Must try list along with the G425.

I still have the G20 and I’m partial to the look of drivers with a bit larger foot print, so the Tsi3 and ZX-7 are probably not an option.

Looking for some advice on if I should go with a whole set of X5s or combo X5/X7. Feel I need a little help with longer irons (X5s), but not sure about the wide soles on the shorter clubs if I went with the whole set of X5s. I’m a 12 handicap and a decent ball striker. My miss is off the toe. But also hit some thin and fat. So no real consistent pattern of missed. I like the idea of splitting somewhere around 7/8 iron, but don’t know if I’m good enough to game the X7s. Appreciate any advice from people who have gamed Srixons.

I played 585's this whole season and was lucky enough to land a zx7 set early for a ridiculous deal. I play to a 5 handicap but like you, my main miss is on the toe side. The zx7 8-pw play pretty forgiving for me but once you go 5-7, you get slightly punished distance wise. I would probably combo 5-7 zx5, 8-pw xz7. My 2 cents.

I think ZX5, but I think the ZX5 will be a bit more forgiving than the 921F based on the pics and specs I've seen..

So an honest question -- I have really liked my set of Z785s for a long time (got them fitted for me at Club champion when they first came out -- it was my first srixon purchase, but the trackman numbers and feel were too hard to argue with)

Currently have them with Aerosteel i95s.. Do you think these would be much of an upgrade, or too soon in the "new club cycle" to make much of a difference.. Would be really interested to hear form people that have hit both..

My local shop says they wont get them till Mid/Late January, but just curious if I should even entertain the idea of taking the leap

I’ve talked myself out of the ZX7 for this very reason, the Z785’s are just so good. It’ll really come down to the individual and their preference on looks and turf interaction (sole is slightly different). That being said, I’ll likely own a set of ZX7 at some point this year 😂

Anybody thinking about ZX7/ZX5 or Mizuno 921T/Forged Combo?

Currently in the 919Fs, but those soles are interesting.

The Z785s are significantly more forgiving (to me) than 921 tours. I hit the JPX 921 SEL set vs my z585/785 combo and feel the Srixons, even last gen, feel softer and are easier to hit than the Mizzys, while also flying longer and higher. I already sold my JPX 921 SEL set and am impatiently awaiting ordering a new Srixon combo set. Sounds crazy but I felt like the new JPX tours were harsher and less forgiving than my old set of MP32’s.

So I am looking at the ZX5’s at the moment.  In the bag are PXG 311P, Gen3’s. For some reason the soles on the PXG’s are not to my liking.  They are just too thick for me.  Iam a bit of a digger which one would think the larger sole would be a better option.  For the life of me I can’t seem to adjust.

For those of you that have tried them how thick is the sole of the 5’s, and how is turf interaction?

I think Srixon has stepped up its game with these added to the mix.

Im gonna assume these are their hollow cavity set to compete with P-790/770 and the like.

They are gonna light it up this year.

Thanks for the pics!

They're pretty for sure, but they look a little too beefy (to me, anyways) to be a P790/70 competitor.  Maybe something more game-improvement along the lines of the old 300 series?

Yeah-I think you’re right. Similar top line to the old MP-H4 with a bit more off-set tho.

The 921F, IMHO, sits nicely between these two.  Almost as if they are what a sort of 6 series would be?

The 921Fs seem just right for those of whom the 5 series are too generous and the 7 series may be a whisker too demanding or not quite long enough.

Huge difference in the soles though. The 921F are not for diggers or steep swingers. They will not work in the turf nearly as well as the ZX series. Better be sure and try them both.
