Over the history of Professional Golf have any of the great putters been tall?

Have any of the players considered to be the best putters of their time, have any been tall? Tall is subjective, but say over 6'1" or so? Are taller players at a disadvantage with a putter in their hand? I don't know who all would be on that list over time, but the only players I can recall off hand on that list are pretty short. Tiger is the only one I can think of that is in that 6'/6'1" range.

Given 5'10 is average height for much of the world (now) and historically people were shorter, I would go with over 5'10 for the modern golfer as 'tall' maybe less for the historic golfer.

Then I will put it out there that the average golfer is historically not over 6'- so that will mess with the numbers as the pool of tall golfers is small to start with. It would be interesting to know per capita if tall golfer putt as well as average and short golfers.

All the same here is a few.

6'3"-Phil Mickelson

6'1" - Tiger Woods

6'0" - Seve Ballesteros

5'11" - Billy Casper

5'11" - Dave Stockton

5'11" - Walter Hagen

5'10" - Jack Nicklaus

5'10" - Arnold Palmer

I Keep having to go back and editing my list. As it turns out lots of good putters on the tall side (for a golfer)

George Archer could putt pretty good.  Ernie wasn’t too shabby in his day.

Haha...usually you need some whisky to arrive at head butts.  Getting drunk with Ernie would be one of those good-old-times you normally only get to read about.  Plus, if he splits my coconut open, I might get some XXIO clubs out of the deal.

won order of merit 4 or 5 times in a row....

think he was 6’5 at least....I remember him making tom weiskopf look short...weiskopf was/is ernies height

Anyhow, he could roll it beautifully...the only clip I can find is below

but he had a beautiful, Crenshawesque move despite being very very tall...

his irons never fit him right....he couldve really benefitted from modern fitting and track man....

the 60s and 70s had little, if any options for 6’5 tour pros

Most people here have zero idea how good of a player he was. God bless him. Alzheimer sucks.

Maybe I'm looking at from the wrong angle.  Instead of surveying the greatest putters in history, look at the worst/yippiest putters over the years with a conventional stroke of all time. Guys who had to go to the broomstick or armlock and the like. Other than Langer/McCarron-sp? ( not sure how tall they are, they seem on the shorter side of 6' on TV), are most of them on the taller side compared to their competitors?

I haven't read through the thread however I know that at 6'5"-6'5 1/2", George Archer is the the tallest to take a Major('69 Masters) and then I guess you'd have Stewart Cink & Hal Sutton at 6'4" who both grabs Majors~

Anyone that takes a Major I'd classify as a "Great" putter😉

Oh, and Tiger ain't 6'1", lol. He MIGHT be 6', MAYBE. Hey, what's an inch to an inch and a half, lol. He'd still be a great putter if he was 6'6".
