Tiger Woods vs Tom Brady > Dominance

cardoustie

Recommended Posts

So who do you think dominates / dominated their sport more handily?  Tiger on his 97 to 08 run was other worldly !

Both gents have won a ton, and both have won in their 40’s ...

Tiger winning his 5th Masters was incredible and Tom winning last night for 7 rings locks him down as GOAT for NFL.

Tiger still has Jack’s shadow shifting around to be considered 100 percent the GOAT of golf..

I think all the variables in football make it even more impressive

His one year turnaround is a massive stomp on Belichick  .. which i love

If a golfer wins 7 of 20 majors in a 5 year run ....

If Tigers body held up, it’s probably a different conversation. Which is a credit to Brady because at 43, most QBs have been retired for a few years, never mind at the top.

Has Brady ever had a serious injury? If not, that is pretty phenomenal to play that long at QB in the NFL.

Harder to be GOAT in team sports. Too many variables.

Imagine if Pippen didnt get traded for Olden Polynice.....

This is especially true in football where the team is very large and is kind of an assembly line type sport where positions have discreet roles.

The impact one football player can make is very limited (although highest at the QB), see any great player the Lions have had (Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson, to a lesser degree Matt Stafford), or Dan Marino never making it back to the SB after his rookie season.

Brady did blow his left knee on a low hit in 2008, IIRC.

I'll give Brady GOAT at QB - but that's the low hanging fruit (not in the Gronk sense, lol).

It's a team sport and I get that, but just the positive influence on Tampa Bay this year says a lot in terms of his value and contributions.  I have a hard time separating even all time greatest NBA players from positions, so MJ the greatest at his position hands down, IMO.  Greatest BB player of all time?  Maybe Jordan, but he's on the floor offense and defense. So Brady the all time greatest on offense in the NFL?  Tough one.  There are some RBs in that discussion and WRs and even some linemen (hey they are football players, too!).

Maybe I'd give Brady GOAT influencer overall at football - but I'm already overthinking it, lol.  Kind of like Tiger, I don't see anyone coming along and amassing a resume like Tom Brady, ever.  LOL, so that sounds like dominance, to the extent one player can dominate football!

The guy is a winner in every sense of the word on and off the field. Played a very large part in turning a very dysfunctional Bucs organization back into a champion in less than a year. Been at or very near the peak of his profession for two decades; not many people in history can say that regardless of what their chosen discipline is. Married to a lovely woman and by all accounts is a great husband and father. My hat's off to him. Appreciate him now because we'll likely never see his equal again (and yes I know Patrick Maholmes exists).

Jack is more like Brady than Tiger, Jack had a longer more consistent career, and they both won the most big ones in their sport.  I think Mahomes will end up more like Tiger, more spectacular, more upside and week to week dominance and excitement.  Tom just moves along week to week season to season and gets the job done like Jack, always finishing near the top and waiting for others to fail when needed.

I really like the the Joe Montana comparison to Tiger as well, maybe the best ever in the clutch, but injuries shortened his career.

They were all great, in their sport, not really apples to apples, but as a sports fan it's always fun to compare.

Brady is smart and he trains for this plus is big on nutrition.   He has his own nutrition company.  Some people say it is weird but he understands the big thing is to avoid food that creates inflammation.  See Dr. Gundy diet and others.  The teammates and team have even thought he is nuts about nutrition but he is right.  Inflammation causes heart diseases, arthritis and more.

Brady also is careful to avoid heavy weight to avoid muscle tears.   He is bigger on flexibility.   He supposedly is opening up some health and wellness clubs.

He knows how to get rid of the ball and makes sure he has a top offensive line plus he has escape guys to dump it off to like Gronk.  Brady is smart enough and he has enough clout on the team to design things so he avoids injuries.   Mahomes line had injuries and could not keep up.  His tight end, another Gronk type guy, tried to help but the Bucs defense had him covered. \

Brady did things to protect and strengthen his body.  Poor Tiger did some dumb things that probably hurt his body.  Phil is a bit like Brady in being super careful to take care of his body.  Brady is off the charts to where some people think he is a bit nutty.   The joke is on them because he is just plans everything out and has smart people helping him.

Good assessment.

Brady had one major injury during his career, blew his ACL years ago the first game of the season, vs. the Chiefs.  The Pats got revenge though by sending the Chiefs Bradys replacement that year, Matt Cassel.

Brady has been fortunate to be a part of great teams. Not saying he isn't great and isn't a champion but it was clear and obvious who the better QB was last night and it was the guy running for his life with no offensive line. Last time I checked Brady doesn't play defense.

Both exceptional in their respective sport.

Both are icons.

Both are driven to the "next one" while most focus on the "current one."

Both are highly skilled.

Brady has what Tiger will never know or understand.  Leadership skills.

Tampa came to play and they all carpooled in Brady's station wagon.

Brady has better advisers for his health and taking care of his body versus Tiger too.    My guess is regarding leadership skills that Brady does a great job making the teammates believe.  Supposedly if they screw up - he can be tough.  Tampa played very well and avoided penalties while Kansas City was not very disciplined (like Andy Reid's son?).    Holding penalties and other dumb stuff.

The one guy for Tampa late in the game got an unsportsmanship penalty for taunting?   They might trade that dude in the offseason.  He played well but don't be a jackass.   I bet Brady has something to say.

No, the better QB was Tom fricken Brady...

Nobody gave him a snowballs chance in hell and he flipped the bird to all his detractors... Thankfully he brought me almost $3k in last nights victory. 😄

Brady > Mahomes

Gronk > Kelce

Brown > Hill

The fact that he threw at the honey badger, after talking smack was so pure... So many KC fans with salty tears .. 31 -9 is a blowout of epic proportions and those saying Mahomes was the second coming of the messiah can now enjoy their salty cheerios..

The game is over.   No sense dragging muck from the bottom.

You know what's so special about both of them?   They have achieved greatness and don't carry the burden of "making a career."

They have nothing to prove.    What they do going forward is on their terms and conditions.  It looks like they are having fun.

Glad I'm living through this time.

Tiger's mess and problems may have been the best thing to happen to him.   Maybe it helped him appreciate things more and his kids have appeared to helped a lot.   He seems much happier which is a good thing.  I think he will let his son play golf if the son wants to and not if he wants him to.

Brady seems pretty happy too.   They both worked for it.

Was it unprofessional? Yes.

Do I agree with what Winfield did? No.

When taken in context of what Hill did to him in their regular season game, do I understand it? Absolutely.

Will they trade Winfield for that? You've gotta be kidding me...no.

You sow as you reap, and Hill got exactly what he had coming to him.

Hill Winfield 1.jpg

Winfield Hill 2.jpg

No doubt - the defensive player is a top notch player and shut Hill down all night. It sucks that Hill never got penalized for the 2 finger.

Tampa had so many players really excelling last night.  I think Brady helps everyone take it to the next level.

Kelce was trying.  He is the big target like Gronk if QB is under pressure.   I think the rest of the Kansas offensive was struggling, especially RB and receivers.  Mahomes was scrambling for his life.

The two Tampa running backs were also outstanding.  Their running tired out Kansas Def.

KC's offensive line was decimated by injuries.  2nd team tackles, 2nd or 3rd team guards.   The game plan on offense did nothing to compensate, needed quick routes, screens etc. to take pressure off of pass blocking.  4 man rush and deep zone coverage dominated the game, that does not happen when you have a good O-line and Mahomes.   As a KC fan, I blame bad luck and a bad game plan by the offensive coordinators.  (The refs didn't help, but that's down the list a bit)

The biggest contributor to the Chiefs' offensive struggles last night was the injury to OT Eric Fisher. Him being out forced the Chiefs to shuffle their line configuration in such a way that it affected three of the five OL positions. Against a good Bucs defensive front, that was always going to be a problem. Knowing Fisher was out, the Bucs played with 5 and 6 DB's with VERY deep safeties and thereby dared the Chiefs to beat them by running the ball and passing underneath coverage. The Chiefs failed to do both effectively largely because they lost the battle up front all night. When you add to that critical defensive penalties, some horrific punting (get a haircut, son), and losses of composure that's a recipe to get your butt kicked.
