Does anyone play different balls based on temperature/wind?

Been having this discussion with a wide range of handicaps at our club.  Anyone do this?  We're in Texas and get winds 25+ quite often.  Lots of our guys switch to AVX over ProV's when its windy.  Same for the cold.  Anyone know if there is any logic to this?

I don't. Only thing i might do is play a firmer distance ball in october/november when it's cold and the greens are slow and punched anyway. Also they are cheaper so if i lose them in the leaves it's no big deal

 

I'd still prefer the feel i'm used to vs a ball that spins differently.

Well it has nothing to do with logic because everyone is different---- If it works then it works--- Right now what little I am playing I am using Srixon Soft Feels or Callaway Super Softs. Now to be completely honest I have won quite a few Dozen playing our weekly Dog Fights and on the raffles in the past year or so. Since I have about 5 doz Q Stars I will switch to them come spring. But like I said if it works it works

I play in wind a fair amount, it's not a "ball" determining factor for me.  Wind is more about how I strike the ball.

 

Temperature is my "Ball" determining factor.  When traveling to the desert, and or it's hot outside, I use Prov1x.  Otherwise, normal or cold out its either ProV1 or the new AVX.

 

I haven't had the benefit of testing the new Titleist ProV line yet, that may change my choices.

The short answer to this question is "no", but golfers (myself included) can talk themselves into all sorts of illogical things.

I'll play a lower comp ball in the cold.  Feels better and still reacts well enough to not worry about anything else and focus on staying warm...

In the blustery NW wind here i switch to Z Star XV, usual ball is Pro V. 

Srixon just goes through the wind better for me I found.

Yes.  ProV1 in normal/warmer temperatures, AVX in colder temperatures.

My main weather consideration is sky color. In November or March when sky is grayish or white clous overcast, I make sure I play an orange ball. Otherwise, I can't track it very well.

I was always ProV1x no matter the conditions but I've started liking the ProV1 during the winter.

Hot pink Maxfli Softfli ball in the winter and <50 degrees outside. Easier to see in the weirdly grey-yellow winter grass and shanks don't hurt as much in the cold...

It doesn't get bitter cold here, so I play the same ball all the time.  Like Pepperturbo said, I don't switch balls based on wind.  I play Bridgestones which have always been a great wind ball, so I don't think about it.

When it's cold I rotate balls every hole.

 

High wind, I'll play a ProV1 or AVX if I have one.

I used to do this but not anymore. I'm a ProV1 or AVX player, but switched to the Cally Supersoft when it got cold. I discovered that even though I got a few more yards off the tee, my short game suffered. Chipping and putting is the strongest part of my game. I score well when I can get up and down when I miss greens. The few yards I gain with the SuperSoft off the tee are not worth sacrificing control on or around the greens. There's nothing wrong with the SuperSoft. It's just not my ball of choice.

Absolutely I'll play a lower compression ball when the temperature drops. As far as changing out to a different golf ball if the wind picks up...never. I'll adjust my swing as needed, move the ball forward or back in my stance, flight the ball lower, move up 1 or 2 clubs if hitting into the wind, move down 1 or 2 clubs if hitting with the wind & swing easier, not harder.

I have enough trouble clubbing myself with one ball in heavy wind so I'm certainly not going to add the complexity of recalculating with a ball with different flight characteristics.

I was testing this colder temp/softer ball theory out toward the end of the golf season this year and did play some good golf with a softer ball, but it may not have had anything to do with it either.  Might just have been golfing well...  I think The TXG guys did a video on this, basically proving that it made no really difference, so next year, I will probably just play my normal gamer, though a used version, so I don cry when I lose a one-and-done $4 ball in the leaves...

 

for wind, it is always windy here, so same ball when it isn’t windy...

Yup, definitely play different ball in cool/cold weather.  50s and below, play Project a, or similar, something soft and urethane.  Warmer is B300 xs

I switched to a Supersoft for winter golf in the 40s and below. Had a free dozen of them from an outing and figured to give them a go.   Softer feels better in winter.  The greens are a mix of frozen or mush so fancy spin balls are worthless and more unpredictable.  They are cheaper and given the plugging potential, figure to lose more balls.  Although, I've lost a lot less.  Played played 67 holes with the same Supersoft and it still looked great when I hooked one into its watery grave.
