+4 on a 5-par

Fairway bunker cost me two shots.  Should have come out sideways.

I remember that outward nine like it was yesterday.  Holed out from 90-yards for eagle on 9.

Shot +2 coming in, 74.

5 pars (1,4,5,6,8)

2 birds (2,7)

1 quad (3)

I went straight tin cup my last round on a par 5 at my course….3 wood to 185 yards out….4h almost cleared water fronting green…drop at 120….caught fat and splash….drop again and fat again into water….drop and club up to way long…pitch on  and then 3 putt….so that’s a 12.I think…was too angry to add it up until like 4 hours after the round

This year it was an 11 on a par 3.

First shot goes into the junk.  Proceed to the drop area in a rush to hit #3 and shank it into the junk.  Still in a rush I drop and hit shot #5 into the junk.  Shot #7 flies the green into deep rough that takes two to get out of followed by two putts for an eleven.

It was surreal.  Lesson learned is to take all shots seriously and at least take the time to set up properly, even for an easy shot from a drop zone.

I honestly have no idea. I can’t think of being an adult and ever going into double figures. I guess as a kid I must have done at some point but nothing which is sticking in my mind. I do remember playing in a medal when I was a junior and finding the scorecard of a guy in the group in front. He had started 5, 4, 4, 20…which is why I suspected he wasn’t too bothered about his card after that point 😂

13 on a Par 4.

SCGA Amateur Net finals - couldn't pick up.  I was in 5th place up to this point.  4 OB off of the tee... 3 putt once I got on the green.

After which, I told my caddie I planned to withdraw, but I didn't want to leave on a 13.  Got a Par on the next hole, and we left.

Casual round=17 on a par 4. Hit a tee shot right behind a tree with a small "V" in it. I was maybe 3 over at the time and knew the round wouldn't count for handicap purposes. Tried to hit these chip 7 woods from 165 with a massive slice through the V in the tree. 7 in a row hit the tree and went OB. The 8th I stiffed to 4 feet and made the putt 😂

Tournament=10 on a par 5, courtesy of some "creative routing" on a massive dogleg.

Shot 1-Intentionally bomb a driver over some trees into an adjacent fairway, leaving me 125 into a 560 yard hole. Sweet! Go to my ball and there are internal OB stakes that you can't see from the tee and were not on the rules sheet. Official makes me go back to the tee to hit another tee shot.

Shot 3-Driver into a divot, 260 out.

Shot 4-Elect to play a 3 wood into some mounds 30 yards left of green to take out the green-side water short right. Pull it off, great angle for the next pitch. In the bottom of the mounds are more internal OB stakes...

Shot 6-In the water...

Generally, don't the rules say something about "pick up your ball and move on" once you either exceed double par, or hit 10 strokes?

Anyway, just checked my worst round ever on TheGrint and found that I recorded four 10s last summer...that certainly explains the final score I recorded of 130.  Yeesh...

Non tournament I made a 12 on a par 5. What made it hilarious is the fact I told my best buddy/playing partner on 18.

"Dude I'm 3 under! If I birdie 18 I shoot my career low!"

Proceeded to slice 3 tee shots OB and stumble my way in lol.

In a tournament my highest score was an 11 on a par 4. This was more the young silly ego junior player move. Playing partner drives the green on a short hole (About 300 but 275 if you cut the corner) I hit 3 OB and took myself out of contention on one hole due to ego lol. It has never happened in a tournament since. I wear that one like a badge of honor. I didnt make over a 5 in my club championship last season so I like to say I learned my lesson at least lol.

Made a 12 on a par 4 during a tournament. Can't remember how many times I hit out of bounds but it felt like a lot.

I took an 11 on a par 3 once, playing off a 12hc at the time. No lost ball, no penalty drops just a whole lot of futility and frustration.

I carded a 13 on a par 3 last year.  Plays about 190, shanked the tee shot into the previous fairway.  Topped my wedge into the pond.  Drop 3, Top 4 into the pond, drop 5, shank 6 into the pond, drop 7, top 8 into the pond, drop 9, hack it around the bushes, knock it up onto the green and 2-putt for 13.  I couldn't shake that hole off and finished 109.  Worst round I've shot in years.  Took several rounds to talk myself into being able to hit a decent wedge again.

My first game ever, the folks I was with stopped counting at 160. They told me that was a maximum. We still were not finished.

I've never forgotten that round.

Once I started playing a little more seriously, I discovered that trying to hit a shot that I can't make 75% of the time, drives my score up.

So I started laying up on those holes.

Making a birdie one a month does not help my scores. Bogies are way better than doubles and triples.

The very best golfers in the world don't hit a ton more birdies than your average 20 handicap.

They do however have far less bogey+ holes than average golfers.   It's about how good your bad golf is, not how good your good golf is.
