Should players have the power to have spectators removed from the course?

Which is why it's the stupidest event of the year. There isn't enough money in the world to get me to attend that bro-fest...

I think the players who go there enjoy it. It’s a “one off” situation where it is a lot like other pro sports. The players just accept it and have fun with it.

The stadium hole underlines the difference between golf and other sports.

There is constant noise. And then roars and even boos are cool. But the players generally don’t hear any individual drunks in the sea of thousands of them.

It's not like the guys a saint, though. It's not like he hasn't "earned" it.

No other pro on tour has this issue. There are many fans at these events. He brought this on himself and he can't take it. Now he and us all know this. He can either step up and take it, or hide.

But you can't put toothpaste back in the tube once you've squeezed too much out

In a crowd at an NFL/NBA game, one guy yelling "YOU SUCK" is not something players notice.  At a golf tournament, a guy 40 feet away yelling the same thing is very noticeable, and very different.

Also, in those team sports, it’s different.

It’s totally normal for the crowd to erupt in cheers or boos and heckling when a guy

Totally screws up and is humiliated!

Its part of the game. The players get it and brush it off. And like you said, the fans are generally pretty far away.

But golf is not like that. You don’t cheer when a guy screws up. Well, you’re not supposed to ; ) Even the players supposedly don’t wish their opponents I’ll luck. Not sure if I believe that lol

But I like it that way. Golf is brutal enough. No need to jeer a guy on a bad shot.

I would like to point out that no other sport does this. Drunk idiots are a part of sports, it's just how it is. At least there aren't any fist fights at events, yet...

What?  Pick any NFL game for about the last 25 years and there has been a fan tossed from the crowd. There is just no way that this doesn’t occur in any nfl game and the vast majority of MLB games. I went to a Dbacks v Padres game a few weeks ago, there were maybe 7,000 people there total and close to none who were paying attention to the game and I saw 3 people get walked out by security. Every sport tosses fans.

Would you like to see a day when fences set far back, not ropes close to the action become the norm?

actually, yeah i would.

one of the things that drives me insane about fans at tournaments is the need to crowd around a ball that lands 10 yards off the fairway.  why do people need that level of involvement?

move fans back. get rid of the tunnels they create on tee boxes. move them far enough off the green that no one gets hit if you fly one 10 yards too far.

pandemic golf was great because you could actually see the courses. undulations and elevation changes were all way more visible on tv because there weren’t groups of people blocking the view.

i know events are better with fans, but they don’t need or deserve the level of access they get.

For fighting? Sure. For yelling at a player? No. Unless you are being offensive in front of kids, maybe.

But for saying "good job, Brooksie"? 🤣

<edit> play a round of golf with Charles Barkley then tell the Marshall he hurt your feelings afterwards. If he can't handle being called someone else's awful nickname, then maybe he needs to consider a less public line of work

Do you have a problem with Phil having a guy tossed for calling him FIGJAM?

A good number of the general population are idiots. Get more than a few of them together and they will find a way to get thrown out of bars, malls, public parks, concerts and sporting events. It happens at any public gathering with more than about 50 people, and it rarely involves actual fighting. Some people attend events like this with a purpose in mind. It’s baffling I know, and they should be exterminated, but it happens at anything with a crowd.

Report, YES, removal, NO.  It should be left to security or event staff to determine removal.  But maybe that would necessitate the involvement of legal folks and or listing of behavior limits in small print on gate receipts, to eliminate frivolous legal action.  Gallery behavior expectations at a professional golf tournament should NOT be compared to what frequents the stands at Football, Baseball or Basketball events.

I gave up my season football tickets cause of drunk idiots.  Didn't want my son or granddaughter around those type people.

It sounds like you’d have no issue if every fan was allowed to heckle any and every player then?

Why not? If one player can be singled out, then all of them should be heckled if any or all fans want to.

Fine if that’s what youre in favor of but very few would be interested in this.

I'm talking about getting kicked out for talking trash, not storming the capital drunk with a "don't tread on me" flag. 🤣

Yes, people are idiots. But man the f up and play your game. The fact that folks know that it gets to him is why they do it. They aren't even being creative about it and it just works.

Yes, if you are a drunk idiot in public, you should be removed. I am not disputing that. But to remove someone for calling someone by a non offensive name in a calm manner is just silly. It's silly.

I'm not encouraging it at all. I'm saying that by drawing attention to it only makes it worse. You now have fans going to event just to hassle Bryson to see him roid rage.

But if you can't handle being hassled, maybe cut back on the roids for a bit.

I understand your reasoning.  But this is golf, where trash talk is limited between one or four people that know one another; not with some dimwit weasels standing 20' away that don't know any better, and most likely hacks.

Image you're playing golf with a few buddies, talking trash and some strangers nearby decided to get in on the trash talk action, insulting YOU or your son.  You can't tell me the dynamics wouldn't escalate.  There is NO way I would tolerate it...

people seem to forget that attending ANY sporting event is a privilege, not a right.

simply buying a ticket doesn’t mean you can show up and do whatever you want.

privileges can, and should, be taken away when people stop operating within the contract they entered by buying that ticket.

Id agree to an extent. But keep in mind BD was dealing with for a few events now. It’s played and it’s not adding anything besides helping one big mouth show off because he knows BD can’t hit him in the mouth.

Good BD had him tossed

And I don’t mind there’s more of that to come.

Sober people may act the fool as much or more so than do drunk people.

The current policy is a good one, that is a player and, or, his caddie may ask that a disruptive spectator be removed. It's typically only one or two clowns that make noise so not a big deal for security staff to remove them.

Phil let his caddy do the tossing. He hit his shot and moved on.

Steve Williams was often acting as Tiger's bodyguard as well as his caddy..

Bison does the dirty work himself, needs to realize the backlash will be aimed at him.

All I know if someone yells at me when I'm working they're gonna get hurt.  We say that golf fans are "better."  Obviously not.  Just because you buy a ticket doesn't give you a right to do what you want.  Anyone remember the Ron Artest and crew brawl?  Started by a fan who decided it would be great if they threw something at him.  Players have idiot fans removed if they get abusive.  These guys are human and when they have enough, they had enough and someone gets the boot.

I don't think anyone has ever been removed from a baseball game for taunting a player. That is literally part of the game.

This is totally incorrect. I was in the outfield seats at Fenway and there was a guy heckling the center fielder. He finally looked back at the heckler and after the inning, security came and escorted him out.

I have a little suggestion for you…..

Google “fan banned” (just the words not the quotation marks) and see how many are banned-for life-from NBA arenas and football stadiums etc.
