New Netflix docu-series on PGA Tour

First two were meh IMO. I actually enjoyed 1 more than 2. Seems that Koepka was just trying to see how many f-bombs he could drop in one episode (with Netflix obviously happy to oblige). I worked hard to instill respectful language in my kids. Definitely would not let them watch it. To each his own I suppose.

Jenna Sims is to Brooks what the Escalade crash was to Tiger

Disagree, BK seemed just seriously flat out miserable and depressed about his golf game and future. Like really depressed. She, at least on camera, was bringing the only positive vibes he was getting.

I skimmed the 2nd and 3rd episodes, find it boring, just a recap of past events I’m already familiar with.

I see episodes 6 and 7 feature Finau, Morikawa, Sahiiiiiiith! And Mito.

Maybe those will be more interesting,

Same and same.

To be fair, I dont think the target audience is a bunch of guys who sit around debating the launch characteristics difference between the Ventus Blue and Ventus Black...

Yep. And honestly if they made a show for guys like us we'd find reasons to hate it too.

Episode 3 - what a cut is…..

Also in Ep 4 so get ready.

Honestly I think that's the element some non-golfing producer came up with to stand in for the idea of losing your seat in the F1 series. They want to emphasize that it's a performance-based meritocracy. It doesn't really hold up.

It would have been better to use the idea of retaining the card, being able to get into the best fields, that kind of thing.

Through episode 3.  1 was a little boring.  2 was more interesting and it gives you some better insight into Koepka, but I find it hard to believe nothing about Bryson came up.  I guess there must have been something in the contracts that wouldn't allow it.  Always liked Poulter for his style and competitiveness and enjoyed seeing some of his family dynamics in episode 3.  Easy to understand why he went to LIV, but I think he'd be better served by simply taking the money and running rather than expecting the PGA to accommodate LIV, as he seemed to be wanting at the end of the episode.

I just don't get what the point of the first episode was? Nothing in the episode was intriguing at all. Like if they would have showed more of Mito's story and why him blowing it on the 18th meant more for him than JT coming back to win, it would have showed contrast and made the 18th hole scene way more intense.

Like if you're going to introduce someone to Professional Golf, who doesn't watch it or isn't a fan, then actually dive into how the PGA TOUR season is laid out and how you need to make cuts to get paid, need to make cuts to make fedexcup points and need fedexcup points to keep your TOUR card or you'll be relegated to the lower Tour where the $ is substantially less. And show the difference! That sets up the plate for the viewer and they can understand moving forward what these guys are actually playing for. Then show some guys who struggle week in & week out vs the guys like JT & Spieth who are comfortably well off and a missed cut isn't as big of a deal.

Man, I've enjoyed it somewhat, but I don't see how this appeases the hardcore golf crowd or draws in people who have little to no interest in golf.

DTS works imo because 1.) F1 is literally life or death so there's inherent excitement built in in racing 2.) the stakes of needing to beat your own teammate add a ton of tension to the team dynamics but they still have to play nice 3.) none of us will ever know what it feels like to drive an F1 car, so it almost feels like it's not even real life. Not sure i explained that the way i want to, but hopefully you get what i'm saying.

I think all 3 of those make DTS a good show for people that don't even have the slightest clue about F1 and helps them become interested. From what I've seen so far, Full Swing won't have nearly the same effect, while also not really appeasing the golf sickos. Kind of rambling at this point but I'll finish the show and see how I feel

I get what you're saying. Then again, as serious golfers we can't really put ourselves in the position of a person who knows nothing about the sport, the people, etc. so it's hard to guess how it might come across to people who don't already have strong opinions about all of it.

Finally reached the DJ episode.

Sometimes I wonder if women realize there are different sizes of implants and not just the one size that makes them look like they're wearing floatation devices 24/7.

Yeah that's totally fair. My thinking is this: I got my girlfriend to watch DTS and she loves it and ended up coming to a race with me. I don't see her watching this show and being excited to watch golf.

Definitely realize that my small sample size of 1 means nada though. We'll see how it shakes out

It definitely feels a little more phoned-in than the F1 series, but then I never paid much attention to F1 before so everything was new to me. Seeing the amount of infrastructure that every team brings to every race was something that stuck out to me. I guess the golf version of that would be showing the production trucks, the equipment trailers, etc., but instead we're seeing press conference and locker room outtakes.

There are so many shots of players driving their courtesy cars, supposedly listening to the fake radio commentary about their chances of winning the event. I sorta doubt that ever happens. Like, ever.

I know in the F1 series a ton of the commentary was added afterward but written to sound like it was broadcast in real time. I assume this is the same trick. Pretty phony.

I thought the same thing about the first episode. Now I'm through episode 4, and I went back and watched the first episode with my wife. It seemed better the second time around and I think it was because I started to understand how they were doing the series and the style of production they are aiming for. They don't care about the other golfers on the course, only the golfers they are featuring. If there's an episode on Mito, I'm sure they will go back to that moment. They also show the same tournament for different players and it's crazy how different the experience is for each player. They don't care about who won, or who blew it, just how that specific player did, finished, and how that made him react and feel.
