Teams were allowed to opt out, which Mercedes and Ferrari did the first season. And then only allowed limited access. Max has not been in the last 2 seasons at all and other teams limit access as well.

if you think Jay is going g to allow bad things to be shown about the tour or speak to players that left you are sorely mistaken. As any negative PR gives an advantage to LIV.  I agree that had LIV not arrived on the scene you would have a good show. Now I am significantly more skeptical.

Netflix doesn’t care what Jay says. They’re a 100B company. Guarantee there will be lots a controversial stuff. Netflix wouldn’t waste time on the pga tour unless they could get access/authority to show whatever they film or interview.

My understanding is The F1 series hyped all kinds of controversy and drama

Seen all the F1 episodes

One thing that made it entertaining and not just a boring docuseries was how OPEN and HONEST so many people were.

One big issue with pro golf is how buttoned up everyone always is........ from the commentators to the players and everyone in between.  Its like the whole industry thinks they are still in the 1950s

so lets see if anyone says anything interesting and not just talk about lie angles

Daniel Riccardo F1 driver was in a van on his birthday going to the race on his birthday singing a song about his scrotum.....

Shows that corporations TRULY dont give a crap about acting all PC.... its all a facade

Corporations only play the PC card when it's convenient for them.

But the honesty thing, I don't know how many pre-post race shows you've watched, but they are always more honest than any US sports I've watched(haven't watched a ton of soccer to know if they are honest or buttoned up.)  People would get on their high horse and start calling people names if they ever talked about "our race wasn't with them today", "we are lacking in pace to really challenge there".  I was shocked at how honest F1 is.  The only time they approach the buttoned up atmosphere is when there is tension among teammates.  Which will make Alpine *very* interesting next year if Gasly moves over as rumored.

I think it's going to be great

I think the one thing as a hardcore golf fan that is going to be hard to take , is when they recut events to create drama like they did with F1 (it was great for the casual observer and maybe went unnoticed) but the selective editing may not go over well with the golfwrx crowd.

Liberty Media had final say, the owners of F1. Same will apply to the tour.

That said I hope it is a train wreck of controversy

Actually, they didn’t  ; )

“Before “Drive to Survive,” sports docuseries typically focused on individual teams. The teams invariably controlled the content, which meant that embarrassing revelations or scenes critical of a player or management rarely made the final cut. The shows usually had the wide-eyed feel of promotional videos. Before signing off on “Drive to Survive,” Riegg (Netflix VP) insisted on keeping creative autonomy. And unlike the N.F.L. teams that HBO accessed on “Hard Knocks,” or the soccer clubs featured on Amazon’s “All or Nothing” series, Formula 1 didn’t have the standing to refuse.”

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/14/magazine/formula-1-miami-drive-to-survive.html

Long piece but F1 fans will appreciate. F1 signed off on liberal access and lots of drama. Netflix even had access to the “the bubble” lol

“That July, Formula 1 resumed competition by constructing a virus-free bubble that included only team members indispensable to the races. Somehow, Netflix successfully made the case that “Drive to Survive” deserved access. Its crews were issued regulation team uniforms to make clear to local officials that they were part of the bubble. In effect, they embedded with the drivers and engineers. “The material we got as a result was incredible,” Rogers says. “The access you get when you’ve become part of the team gets you those moments with the real intimate feel.”

They were there for Harry Higgs and Joel Dahmen on the 16th. Can't wait to relive this in 4K slow motion.

I wonder if Rory was a full participant or just sat for a couple interviews? His name was never really mentioned until they dropped the trailer. That's either brilliant marketing akin to a movie studio hiding the role of a mega star in their film (Like Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder) or more likely, Rory became such a focal point during the LIV drama that Netflix had to beg to get him to participate after having half the season in the can.

Regardless, this looks really good so far and I like that they got a cross section of players. Life on the tour is far different for Justin Thomas vs Joel Dahmen. I always thought Drive to Survive was a bit more interesting when talking about the drivers/teams that were barely hanging on vs endless Red Bull vs Mercedes talk.

This show was always going to be about the drama, gossip, cat fighting, and drama (drama twice because its going to have lots of drama) as this is what their viewership wants.  It won't be a "feel good" story about the PGA that is for sure.

Seen Break Point...... the tennis show that dropped on Netflix couple weeks ago.......

Might as well be one of the same Behind the Scene shows we've seen a million times...... boring

Brings nothing new like F1 show...... maybe cause nothing to bring.  Golf does have lots to bring specially for us golfers that care but they won't have the balls to speak against people or groups like F1 does.  Prob cause F1 openly attacks each other behind the scenes when golfers do not.... unless at home with their select few friends or they're Patty P.

Can't figure how to like my own posts
