That's Sean Foley? I thought it was Keith Pelley.

Oof. I'm admittedly just one episode in but it's a special kind of db who matches his glasses with golf shirt. Could you be more pretentious...🙄

Finished it up this morning. Dahmen's episode was awesome. Finau was great. I dont know how Sean Foley became the lead analyst in this LOL. If I'm honest, the rest was...pretty boring. But I guess golf is inherently a boring sport to watch for most people. Even if you've played your whole life, spend your days on golf message boards, you know all the players - its still not that exciting. So it basically becomes what this was - mostly personal stories and 5-10 minutes of actual golf highlights mixed in the hour long episode. A few golf shots mixed in with ten minutes of Mito Perrara cooking in his kitchen.

I struggle to see a second season of this but I guess they are already making it? I dont know. How many times can you teach people what a cut it. But if you're going to do a documentary on the PGA Tour, I cant do another 8 episodes with the same LIV shots of Phil and the same soundbites mixed into every episode - you want to make a LIV documentary, then go make that.

Overall it was a B- for me. C+ but I'll bump it a half grade because it was actually better than I thought it would be and I really loved the Dahmen episode. The scenes in the stroller store had me dead.

Series was meh.

Was hoping for a 'Hard Knocks' type series where they follow several of the players throughout the season, ups and downs, schedules during the week and weekend, etc.

They did ... for the Dahmen episode. And the half they spent on Finau.

yeah but it was very theatrical and scripted.

it’s still entertaining and I like it.

but it’s more directed at non-golf or new golf fans.

it comes off like an MTV reality show (not that I’ve ever seen one of those)

it’s not a real, raw look the quality of Hard Knocks

I enjoyed it overall, sign me up for a whole season of just following Dahmen or Homa, just general good vibes from their personalities.

I'm not a Koepka fan but found the psychological turmoil he's facing interesting.  I'm sure they were playing the angle that golfers losing their edge took the "easy" LIV route but there is some truth to it.  Him talking about how Scheffler was thinking about nothing during is run is so true, that is a fleeting super power.

Observations so far.

Like Dahmen more.

Like Finau more.

Brooks is a mental midget filled with fake bravado, and obvious why he took the money… he knew he was done.

Left a lot to be desired. Didn’t go into their training, preparation, nutrition, practice, mental side not nearly enough. They barely touched on it. A lost opportunity.

Have Rory’s and Johnson’s episodes left.

I liked Brooks as a player but never cared for his bravado antics, seemed like he was trying to copy what some pro athletes do in other sports. The problem with doing that in golf is even a great golfer loses over 90% of the time so you're going to come out looking like a fool when you can't back up the talk. I always wondered how golfers who went through great stretches deal with down turns or tough losses. Dustin Johnson has to be one of the best at dealing with and forgetting the bad spells, it was interesting to see how much it affected Brooks mentally, it won't be easy for him to get that back.

Loved the Dahmen episode but also felt a bit for him at the same time.  Seems like he sometimes overdoes the humble thing to the point of being self deprecating/overly negative.  One would have to think that this could/has impacted his performance.   He's much more of an interesting guy than the typical tour pro though and the dynamic between him and his caddie was also great.

Dude's every guy in the untucked button down and $500 jeans with the chick from the Spearmint Rhino paying $500 for a bottle of Grey Goose to get table service here in Vegas and trying the "Do you know who I am?" shtick.

When you're 25 (ahem, ahem, cough, cough, look away) that seems cool. At 50? Dude's like an IRL Kenny Powers.

Ever watch the Barrett Jackson Scottsdale auction? That's every guy they show on stage over bidding on a 12 year old Ferrari California.

Watched the series….blah.

However, walking through an airport my daughter saw a poster of Finau and said “that’s the guy from dads show.”

One unexpected outcome. I’m now a Brooks fan. The dude is fighting. Depression and overall mental health challenges are no joke and anyone that’s gone through years of multiple surgeries, rehabbed through the pain, knows how difficult/dark things get if you let your guard down. Staying close with his brother on LIV might be perfect at this point in his life. I’m pulling for him.

Like so many of you, I also was a bit surprised by the state of Brooks' head space.  The way he portrayed himself when he was racking up the Majors was obviously a facade.  He was putting on that Tiger Woods swagger that he would destroy anyone in his path, but he seemingly didn't believe it.  When his game slumped, he broke.  I do appreciate how honest he was in the show though... he let the viewers in on the fact that he was struggling with confidence and self-belief.  I am not a Brooks fan, but he gets credit for his honesty.

Jenna comes across as the prototypical country club wife just like I'm sure many of you have met or know.  That's the exact vibe that has kept me away from joining a private country club myself.  I have been a guest at the two most exclusive clubs in my area several times and love the golf and conditions, but the social scene isn't for me at all... and definitely isn't for my wife (who is also a professional in the business world and wouldn't be able to sit for 2 minutes with the Jenna's of the club).

Overall this series is okay.  I actually prefer some of the Youtubers over this.

Finally watched the last episodes.

I enjoyed it ... but it's because I'm a goIf nerd.

Takeaway is I don't think this will really set out to accomplish what they may have wanted. With the exception of Joel Dahmen and Tony Finau ... no one from an outsider's perspective is particularly interesting. Or presented as such because I think Rory's story is actually pretty cool.

YJS and JT just come off as a couple frat boys without a ton of substance. Bruce comes across as "Poor me" while crying in his mansion beside his boat. Poulter acting concerned about money while flying everywhere in private jets. (Though I did come away with a better opinion of him ... as a golf nerd) I like Matt Fitz as a player and his US Open was great ... as a golf nerd. Otherwise, kid of a banker who got to play golf all the time. Again, Tony's bit was great but Collin? Oh yeah, outta Cañada ... not the most compelling. And I LIKE the kid but damn, he's kinda boring.

I actually appreciated DJ's totally candid segments. Nothing he said was surprising and it's cool that's one of the few to just be basically like "Yeah, Paulina's expensive."

Dahmen's episode was the best. He comes across as human and interesting and I didn't know of his struggles. He showed real emotion and I cared. And even Rory - just made me bummed again that he didn't win. It did paint Cam in a crappy light and probably deserved - "Here to win tournaments." But were ya?

I think digging more into the human stories would have been better. DJ actually does have a great background to explore. Despite my well-known hype for Max; he's got a rad story and I was bummed there wasn't more of him. Just a kid from the Valley! Rickie's got a cool background too. Coulda done more with him.

Aside from the handful of good stories - Dahmen, Finau - it was just a bunch of rich guys talking from their mansions and private jets and privileged upbringings.

Agree with most of, if not all of your points. On the Shotgun start podcast ("Full Swing Thoughts") they did say one of the producers of the series was up the ladder at the PGA tour, so its somewhat thought they put their thumb on the scale.

I think they should have started the first episode and given a quick breakdown of how tournaments/the season works; what are majors, why they are important, how the four rounds go together, that these guys are traveling on their own. (maybe  mini tours and how you get in tournaments, but I can see how that would be too much) They did hit around some of these points but it should have been addressed more and laid out fully. Then, it should have been a short primer on Tiger and how the game has basically changed; i.e., why length is important. The Dahmen episode was really good, but I felt they never got into why he couldn't be the best in the world, whats holding him back.

Other points:

- definitely needed to address LIV more.

- I think if you don't watch golf it didn't make you want to watch more. Or if it did, say for example you walked away a big Finau fan, you might not know he's playing this week or even when he plays.

- as you said above, most of these guys are rich and/or come from money. I don't know if that's the best way to draw in viewers, so maybe why that's not addressed.  (I don't think you can buy a game in any sport, but golf is probably one of if not the only one where you can get close.)

- Its interesting, you can definitely tell some guys are taking pages out of Tiger's playbook. Seems like Colin and Jordan are very closed off, and I think just trying not to lose sponsors at this point.

Just finished episode two (don’t have much free time 😆). As a golfer and golf fan I’m finding it pretty “meh”.

My wife, who watches the masters because “it’s pretty” and watched the open as it was at St Andrews (where I went to uni and where we holiday regularly), is enjoying it. That sums this up for me, it’s designed to pull in those that know little about professional golf.
