My vote for best Taylormade irons go to the original RAC Lt's. I played them since they came out up until this year, went to the 2020 P770.

I also played these for a couple years. This is one of the iron sets I have given away to family/friends over the years that I wish I would have kept. Would not be playing them anymore, but that is the kind of stuff you hang on to if you can. My brother in law is still playing the set of rocketbladez I gave him and he has no plans to change them....

I enjoyed my set of Rbladez, but from a sales standpoint and appearance to a variety of handicaps, it's hard to objectively argue P790's aren't the best TM iron (from an economic standpoint).

Wow, I’m surprised the RAC LTs are so beloved around here. Good to know! 
 

I honestly have absolutely loved my set and up until just this year have I thought about finally upgrading. 
 

I love the way the P770s look, how do they play compared to the RAC LTs?

 

I am actually aiming for the Callaway Apex/Pro combo set. First Callaway clubs I have ever wanted.

What a ridiculous statement. These irons are terrible. The burner 2.0 were better. SLDR/RSI2/PSI etc left these in the dust and they all suck compared to what they have put now.

Sounds more like a better fit for shaft/swing weight/playing length than just a matter of a different head model.

 

 

Personally I preferred the r-bladez tour but coincidentally I just bought a set of used r-bladez for a new foster of mine.  We'll see how he likes them.

Kinda glad I don't have to hear about that sldr "c" with his custom shaft anymore. Basically every tour pro or great player should have be hitting it.

I somehow missed whatever that shaft was, but i'll never forget the SLDR-C evangelizing and the famous "SLDR Fix" that seemed only half as effective as it could have been.

I have played many TM irons over the years.  My favorites for feel were the Japan release of the Burner TP irons.  I played the RAC LTs for years as well as the Forged 300s and the Burner Tour irons.  But now I play the 2020 P770 and they are the best feeling and performing irons I have ever played.

Pretty sure if my memory is correct it was a mizayaki kusula 63 or something like that. Affiliated with cleveland gear. "Just put your shaft of choice in it" obviously you had to buy the driver to put a different shaft in since it was bonded.

My best set was a set of Rocketbladez with some heavy RIP shafts in them. They were about the easiest clubs to hit. Then came the MB/MC/CB set I had with Recoils. They were awesome as well. Between those two sets, I wouldnt mind circling back and grabbing a setup if it was similar. Not to impressed with the new offerings.

Best TM irons of all time would be the the RAC TP MB.  I had a set and I tearfully regret selling those.  They might still be in the bag today with an oil can finish.

RocketBladez Tour and Smoke Mb's are the best Taylormade irons ever made, the 750's are a close bet also

I’ve had ‘14 TaylorMade Tour Preferred MC and MB, ‘17 P770, ‘21 P770, ‘19 P790, and of all of the clubs I owned, the one that impressed me the most was a RAC 52* wedge that I picked up at a used Golf shop for $35.

 

That RAC wedge was beat up and looked like trash, but my gosh it could launch the ball and had incredible control!

 

Really wanted to love TaylorMade irons and wedges, but now that I’ve tried other OEM’s stuff, I realize they’re not a great fit for me.

@rsballer10 I felt the exact same way. Way back when, I purchased a set of RBldz Tour irons w/ KBS Tour shafts because I loved the look of the club at address and from an aesthetic point of view. They performed “aight” but they felt terrible…just rock hard off the sweet spot. After that failure I picked up a set of SLDR irons and then a set of PSi irons and those both felt/feel great. I’m sure it was an archer/not the arrow issue but I couldn’t groove with the RBldz Tour irons at all.

Would agree with the poster that these might be the best TM irons ever made, FOR HIM. The only TM irons that have worked for me in the past is the rac os, not for everybody. Have read all the posts in this thread so there are many answers. I stumbled across some R5XL irons at Play it Again Sports Labor Day that have been great for me. Apparently they were made for Dick's Sporting Goods only one year and are considered beginners clubs. For me they are the best irons I have used in several years. My scores have been on a downhill slide for a couple of year, getting older, but these irons and a new driver seems to have turned things around. What I consider my normal scoring is 85-95 but have averaged 86 with four rounds with these irons. Have had several rounds this year over 100, some well over, was beginning to think I had forgot how to play. The reason I bought them is because at address they look very similar to the Callaway's that I use when in Florida in the winter.

Golfnhack, I completely agree with you. I am playing Rocketbladez again now too.  They made me fall in love with golf again about 4 years ago and they made the game fun again for me, I switched and tried other newer sets that I haven't golfed better with.  I never should have switched from Rocketbladez.  I just bought a used set on ebay and pray I can find another new set eventually.
