Tiger Update (Masters 2022) *** MERGED ***

Tiger looks spent.  It was a valiant effort but you can tell he's dead tired and I bet pretty sore.  I know pride will keep him going for tomorrows final round but if he's hurting that bad I'd withdraw.

He made his point. There's nothing to prove tomorrow.  He's exceeded everyone's expectation, even his own.

Well done Tiger!!!

Hadn’t looked it up, but, of course he has the lifetime exemption. Curious about the U.S. Open. I think exempt for five years for winning the Masters in ‘19.

His Masters win did get him a 5 year exemption into the US Open starting in 2020. I wonder if the USGA extended that by a year due to the pandemic like the PGA Tour did when they restarted play in 2020 with all of it's players and the exempt status they were playing on was extended by a season.

FWIW due to that extension and his win at the Zozo in late 2019 Tiger is currently exempt on the PGA Tour through the 2025/2026 season due to his Masters and Zozo wins. That is a higher priority exemption category than his Life members exemption is.

I love T Dub just about as much as any fan could, but I wouldn’t fault him at all for bowing out tomorrow. Unless he is held to some unknown contractural obligation, tomorrow’s round will only serve to hamper further leg rehab and a healthy return later this season.

I personally think he’ll skip the PGA and possibly the US Open. PGA is too close on the calendar and the US Open is just too grueling with length and course conditioning. He should take a month off and ramp everything up for St Andrews, IMO. Make a couple warm-up starts prior and give his last best shot at the old course a go.

My opinion on winning #16:

1. Masters = 55%
2. Open = 30%
3. PGA = 10%
4. US = 5%

Every Major, and every tournament for that matter, has special exemptions for whoever they want to attend and play.

Tiger gets into any PGA Tour tournament, anywhere, for the rest of his life.  Period.  Done deal.

Seriously, who wouldn't want The Big Cat attending, and better yet playing in their tournament?

Not really. Unless he wins a tour event he doesn't qualify for the Tournament Of Champions. If he is not ranked high enough we wont' qualify for WGC events. Unless he is in the top 125 of the FEC standings he won't be in the FEC playoff events or Tour Championship. He is not guaranteed to be in The Players Championship unless he performs well.

It's also possible he could miss the Genesis, API and Memorial Invitationals due to the qualification process those events have if he ever needs to use the lifetime exemption priority category.

While Tiger and others (Phil, VJ, DL3) also have this lifetime exemption available there are still many PGA Tour events that aren't able to play.

We won't ever need to revisit it. It's already happened. He's missed the FEC playoffs, WGC events and the Tour Championship in the past during a season he played. #facts.

Only tournaments I see Tiger playing going forward are the majors, Genesis, Hero, Memorial (as long as Jack's still alive) and PNC.  All of those will grant him a special exemption if he chooses to play.

He will be able to play in any tournament he wants (outside WGC events/playoffs if he does not qualify).  I’d like to see him play some other tournaments outside his normal ones personally.

I think he probably feels he has one more thing to prove to himself , if he can play 4 competitive days of golf. He will build off that for the other majors or tourneys he intends to play this year.

You are technically correct but in reality Tiger is not going to want to play in WGC's or FEC playoffs. He's going to want to play in the majors and legacy tournaments with which he has a close connection (Arnold Palmer, The Memorial, Hero, Genesis, PNC). He would likely also add a non-elite tournament here and there as tune ups for majors. None of those tournaments are going to say no to Tiger. And if their rules would not allow them to have Tiger in the field they'd change the rules.

What is the point of posting this?? If it just to be an a**..mission accomplished.

I dont want to watch anyone who isn't in competition. The point is we dont need to see him 3 jack repeatedly out of the tournament. Annoying as $#@% the past 2 days as he is taking up half of the broadcast with no chance in the course.

I for one was more than happy to watch every shot this man hit, regardless of what the score was.

Notice how you go right to the Tiger thread to whine about it. CBS/NBS/ESPN don't care what what MUNIGRIT thinks. He hasn't taken up any time from CBS broadcast yesterday or today. There is literally 2 golfers who have chance to win and all of their shots will be shown.

Don't have to worry about it today. I was talking last 2 days. Like I said at first. I am glad Tiger is done so we don't have to watch him hog the coverage.
