Question for the shaft guys in the group. My driver ss is 100-105, tend to get quick. Driver shaft ventus red velocore 7s, 4w fujikura pro 2.0 7s. Any thoughts as to what might be a good choice for me for a 19 or 21 uw? Bonus if not crazy expensive. Thanks!

Not cheap at all but if you have the Red in your driver and it performs well for you, i’d be hard pressed not to recommend it in the UW as well.

Seems like it’s a magical combo with how the UW naturally wants to have a flatter ball flight and the Red (for me) really helps elevate while having reasonable spin.

I play the Red(fully tipped in my 3 wood) and play it it tipped a bit in my UW.

Agree-but looking for cheaper, lol.

Evenflow Riptide 70/6.5. (It's softer to flex so you'll want to bump up to 6.5 instead of 6.0 to match the rest of your shafts.) It's a no-upcharge option.

Another no-upcharge option on their website now would be the Kai'li Blue 80. If you want something lower-launching, Kai'li White 80 or Tensei AV White 85 would be good options.

If you're willing to pay a $125 upcharge, no question what I'd do: Graphite Design Tour AD TP 8S. It's discounted right now; most Graphite Design shafts are a $250 upcharge.

My Apex Pro 3 hybrid is my 220-230 club.  With all the reports of a super hot face I assumed the 19 UW would be 240+, but it’s not.
210-220.  It just doesn’t work for my swing.
One more weekend of testing then probably off to the BST.

It is WRX so results may vary, be exaggerated, or seems like everyone is just really good (except me!). Kind of the standard/boring questions but - are you getting to test on any type of monitor or just range targets? Are the golf balls you are testing with really dead? Last one, what shaft/weight are you rocking?

I’m testing off my Mevo+ with a ProV1x rtc ball.
Standard MMT stiff shaft.  I was going to reshaft into a Ventus, but the results were so bad I didn’t want to waste the time.

I don’t blame you that is a lot of $$$ unless you already have one from a older club to reuse. Maybe it’s just not a good fit. I have never used a MMT shaft maybe it’s a bit heavier than what you need.

I experimented with it using my favorite 7w shaft (old Aldila, cannot remember specs), but it was not a good move. My 7w, is 22* head vs the UW at 19* and the flight pattern of my 7 has always been really high. I bag it on low wind days only when I want something to land soft from 185-200. Figured it would help get some elevation into the UW as the stock shaft sure wasn't. FAIL

Since I bag a 17° and 21° I needed to add length to my 17° to get a bigger gapping between the two. You’ll be surprised that all 3 lofts don’t really separate themselves too much(mainly launch) given they all the same lengths stock with the 21° only being .5” shorter. Thus I lengthen the 17° ~.75” and playing around 42.25” and 21° at 41.5” giving me a better gap.

If I only had one UW I personally wouldn’t change the length.

Play the 17* for 220 and 21* for 200.  Fits nicely with a 4w at 42.25” that I play for 240.

Does it hold greens at 200? Thinking abt 21 but worried about low spin not holding green?

This is going to be the longest Club after my driver. One issue I run into, I choke up about an inch on all my clubs.  Going to 42.5” on this bad boy 🤷‍♂️

No problem that I had last season.  I have Diamana ZF 70’s in both and it helps with launch compared to the stock shaft.

3 of the par 3’s on the course we play our league at play between 180 to 200 yards and the 21* fits the yardage great for me with my setup.

This is from a few swings at the local range that has Trackman on the range.  I don’t pay attention to the total just the carry # as it seems to correlate well with actual shots when I play.

Just didn’t feel solid and wasn’t striking it well. Kind of like when .5” with driver can make a difference. I SW it properly and everything it just didn’t perform

well. I play irons standard but woods 1” short.

It brings together elements of both a FW and Hybrid. I don’t own any other Callaway clubs but this thing is awesome.

When I list my issues with a Hybrid and FW it’s like the UW was built to solve them.

-Hybrids can hook too easily: UW doesn’t

-5-7 woods can launch too high and spin too much: UW flies much flatter (no spy balloon!)

-Hybrid ball speed drops on mis hits (for me): UW face is so hot people joke it has to be illegal.

Hope this helps.

I played my first round today with my new 21 UW, and agree with all of the above.  I was surprised at the distance I was getting off of mishits.

I am going to combo the 21* Epic Super Hybrid with the 17* UW.

The UW give me more of the wood type flight… flatter trajectory to apex. A more penetrating flight, but very easy to elevate like a hybrid. The face is hot, but off center hits will cost you distance.

the epic super hybrid just gets elevated fast. No matter where you hit it on the face, it just goes. I didn’t notice a left or hooking miss….

both of these clubs just want to go straight for miles.

very impressed, another one to consider is the Cobra King Tec. These are the real three players in the oversized/ wood crossover catagory.

the king Tec are more low spin rocket launchers. The faces are explosive. They also offer the ultimate in adjustability. I am disappointed that the UW is fixed… that is why I am toying with the ESH…. Going the try the 16* turned down to 15 in the ESH…

I also with the Uw went 3* gaps… there is not enough of a distance gap to game at 21 UW / ESH and 19 UW.
