Are you addicted to one brand of clubs?

I usually lean towards TaylorMade just like the look at address for most of their clubs.  But I will put whatever helps me play best in my bag which is why I have 3-5 brands in my bag at any given time.

Don't get me wrong....I've played a ton of other over 35yrs+

Hogan Apex p-grind / Mizuno mp14

Adams peanut / Bullseye flange / Ram Watson BeCu wedge are amongst my all time favorite

I will always have Ping somewhere - it's all I wanted since '84

ping-300x269.jpg

I am agnostic as well, but Ping will always have a special status in my bag due to performance over the decades.  I currently play Mizuno and Hogan with pride, but there are always more Ping clubs in my inventory than anything else.  The Holy Grail in my collection (that still sees a ton of playing time) are my Eye 2's from the mid 80s.  I carded my lowest round ever with them while doing the Carolina mini tours in the late 80s.  Since then the brand has never let me down.

I am currently down to Cobra woods, Titleist irons and wedges, and a Taylor Made putter.

Previous bag was Callaway woods, Adams hybrid, and Titleist for the remainder. I have also had Cleveland wedges, Ping putters, Odyssey putters, Tommy Armour 845 irons, Nickent hybrids, Hogan irons, and Taylor Made woods. I tend to have a certain look or feel for equipment and the brand either has it or it doesn't.

I don't typically mix my woods between brands for some reason although the models and shafts are usually different depending on what I am trying to create. The wedges are pretty uniform as well though I will have different SM models in there depending on conditions.

Cobra LTDx 10.5* Tour AD HD 5X, Rad Tour 16*, Even Flow White 6.0, Tour Edge 19* 3H, Hzdrus Smoke Black 6.0

Titleist U500 4 23* Hzdrus Smoke Black 6.0

Titleist 718 AP2 5-P DG AMT White S300

Vokey SM7 50/8* F, 54/10* S, SM8 58/10* S, DG S200

Odyssey 2 Ball Blade, Vice Pro Plus, Foresight GC3

I wouldn't say I'm addicted, but I definitely am biased towards a certain look and feel.  I'm a secondary market/vintage hawk, and a lot of what I feel like I end up with is based on what's affordable.  I've ended up with three sets of old Ben Hogan irons and three vintage Ping putters, but I've "shopped around" more when it comes to fairway woods/drivers.  There's a lot I miss out on too, like Vokeys.  Just so hard to get them at the price I want to pay.

I do a lot of research because I can't do a lot of buying, and I think I've found at least one set of classic irons from each of the major brands that I'd be interested in/willing to play.  My wife is the only thing holding me back from spending our life savings on golf clubs.  Bless her.

I used to have a soft spot for PING for the longest time, something in my bag had to be PING but not the case anymore. 1st time Srixon ZX 5 owner as I don't see them leaving anything in the near future. Now for my Wood seems like I have had my share of TaylorMade and Callaway drivers even thou I've experimented with all the other name brand to include JDM equipment buy TM always end up back in my bag. Now I have tired their fairway woods and always seem to find good success with them but this year I'm all in for TaylorMade 3 and 5 for my woods as I’m very happy with there new Stealth line. The one I’m most happy with is the Rouge ST MAX LS driver.

Yeah.... yeah. I'm brand-agnostic, but I can't seem to get enough Ping. I want the most forgiving, yet consistent, clubs I can possibly play. With that being the goal, Ping seems to be the best option and fits my game well.

Can't say I'm 'addicted' to one brand, but I do have my preferences.

Over the years I've owned Mizzy, TM, Ping, Hogan (the OG not current), Cobra and Cally.

I've been pretty much all Cally/Odyssey for years....why?  All major OEMs make pretty decent sticks, and I'm a decent enough player I can adjust/adapt to pretty much any club.  The main reason I use Cally is their customer service is pretty much the best in the industry, at least that's my experience.

I have mixed brands, but I am very loyal to Cobra fairway woods.  My F9 Tours are the 2nd model of Cobra’s in the bag.  Started with the Fly Z+‘s and looking at the LTDx LS fairways next.  Still love my F9 Tours though.

I played TM and Titleist for years and had my eyes opened by a club fitter I trust that they put out clubs that are out of spec for the mass production segment of buyers. They might do great for the Pros but we are not getting what we expect from either if you buy off the shelf. As example, I had multiple TM drivers stamped on the head 9 or 9.5 degrees and when effectively measured the loft was 12.5 to 13. I’m not spending $500 any longer to not get what I ordered. Second, I had Titleist DCI irons years ago that had a 8 and 7 iron with the same loft plus the 9 iron had a Senior shaft versus the Stiff I had ordered. The Quality Control departments are nonexistent in these two companies.

The above is why I will never buy straight off the shelf anymore.

Currently, I have all Cobra in my bag

Sort of... I have had Taylormade, Ping, and still have a Titleist club in the bag but because of CPO, you could say I'm addicted to Callaway. I've never been fit for a club and I have enjoyed switching out gear more than is helpful to my game. By waiting for the right sale I can buy and sell without hurting the bank account too much. I've been happy with everything I've ever ordered and their customer service, the little bit that I've had to use it has been great both through email and over the phone.

Will I ever end up with more of a mixed bag again? Probably but I think it'll be mostly Callaway for a while.

We're going on a Minimalist Adventure who knows were we'll end up:

"Full" 10-Club Bag currently looks like this:

Taylormade BRNR Mini Copper 13.5

Taylormade Sim Max 7w Mitsubishi Diamana F Limited 75S

Titleist 818H1 25* Fuji Atmos Black 9s

Callaway Mavrik Pro 7-PW Project X Rifle Tour Flighted 105 6.0

Vokey SM9 50.08F

Vokey SM9 56.10S

I've basically been Mizuno or Titleist irons always, TM woods, and Vokey wedges. I just got the T22 wedges though and so far I think they might make me a Mizuno wedge loyalist.

I have a few addictions in certain spots in my bag, wouldn't say the whole bag needs to be one brand though.

Now if someone said you can only choose one brand and that's it, then I'd say ping due to the confidence I've had in the past with certain clubs.

But I gotta say I'm lovin me some dtc brands of new level and sub 70.

And I gotta say I'll never play callaway or taylormade.

I wouldn’t call it “loyalty”. I’m of the belief that in 2022, you could get a full bag deal from any of the big brands and you’d score exactly the same if the fitters all had a go at your bag. And now, you can literally go top to bottom with Titleist, TaylorMade, Callaway, PING, Mizuno, Srixon, PXG, Cobra, Wilson and a bunch of DTC brands. They could all dial you in. Always leads me to the question of what “performance” means. The only performance metric that even matters is your scoring average. Do you shoot measurably lower scores with a Sealth+ rather than a G425 if they’re both properly fit? lol, no…you don’t.

So basically I just play what’s nice to look at. All my sticks have been fit, and I laugh at the idea that one brand is somehow better for somebody than another. Titleist woods are gorgeous, and so are the Mizuno Irons - so that’s what I play. If I need a new driver and somebody makes something that looks and sounds better than a Titleist, then that’s the brand I’ll be playing next.

I have always found this subject very interesting.

At this point in my life, I am stuck on putter and wedge brands.  Scottys and Clevelands work for me visually/aesthetically and performance-wise.

I tend to go back and forth between TaylorMade and Callaway for drivers, but have a Ping in the slot now.  Honestly, if the head suits my eye and the shaft fits, I'll game it.

FW, I have a TaylorMade HL. It's not going anywhere anytime soon.

I have a Ping hybrid and a TM driving iron.  Ping Irons that knocked out Callaway.  In the case of irons and hybrids, performance (and my budget) trumps anything else.

I'm willing to try anything, but it does need to suit my eye. And I'm not too terribly picky!

I have a TM connection so I tend to lean that way.  Beyond that, my loyalty would go wherever I got the best deals.  Everybody makes great clubs these days so I wouldn't hesitate another brand.

I used to be a big fan of PING and would generally have all but a club or so of theirs in my bag.  I was a fan of them being unique without the ferrule and having a durable finish that wore very well.  Ever since they’ve added the ferrule and plated finish I’ve looked at them like any other brand.  I’ll give them an equal shot, but I’m not going to the shop looking at PING first any more.

I'm always happy to play any club that is high quality and works. For me, it's not about brand, it's about the best iteration of a particular club at a particular time - and, of course, what I can afford.

Addicted, no.

Loyal, yes.  Several brands out there that I feel put out very good product and also fit my eye and swing very well.  I know what I like and if it ain't broke then don't fix it.  And on the other side of that coin, there are also several brands that may be solid, but will never end up in my bag for one reason or another.  Callaway will just likely never fit my eye and I just don't like PXG's whole schtick so I'll find somewhere else to spend my money.

Nope. I'm replacing the whole bag, possibly including the bag this season. Whatever works best goes in the bag. Once the supply chain decides I can have my new driver and irons I'll have: Cobra LTDx driver. Stealth 3w. Epic Speed 5w. Ping hybrid. Callaway irons. Callaway gap and sand wedges. Taylor Made putter.

Not to mention all of the different wedges and putters in the basement that could find there way back in the bag at some point.

I've stuck with Titleist woods/hybrids for over 10 years.  I like the feel and the sound at impact, and don't care if I'm giving up a bit of distance (though Titleist has closed that gap in recent years).

My buddy has Callaway drivers, and I've liked it when I've hit his.  That's the one brand I would consider switching to.
