Is there any top level ball softer feeling than ProV1 / Pro V1X?

Been using Titleist only ever since taking up golf in the 90s.

Always used the Prov1 since it came out.  Recently found an old Ttileist Professional and Tour Balata ball and forgot how beautifully soft they used to feel and now feel robbed by the Pro V1 which is concrete in comparison.  Its just a hard ball with not that pleasing a sound or feel.   It performs very well though.  I just realised I dont enjoy the feeling of it chipping and hitting iron shots with it.

I remember briefly using a Bridgestone Double Cover in the late 90s and that was a nice ball with a pleasing 'click' on contact.  The Pro V1 is a dull thud. The Balata was like a bar of soap. Bliss!

Any ball you could recommend to try that performs the same as Pro v1 but has that old school soft feel?

Those Balata ball were a totally different material.  Nothing is made of natural rubber that I am aware of.

Chrome soft? The new Pro V1 is very soft feeling IMO.

From memory the Rextar balls were the softest of the 90's era.

Not sure if it will perform the same because the compression is much lower but would suggest trying the Bridgestone Tour B RXS. Has a compression around 68 but still is a 3 layer ball with urethane cover. Personally, I also wanted a softer ball and switched to the Taylormade Tour Response (from Snell MTB Black) and have been very happy but it not quite a "tour level" ball based on its design characteristics. That said, I am still pleased with it.

Callaway Supersoft. They play better for me than the Pro V1, to the extent that I don't even play the Pro V1 that I find, I hit them onto the range. Being less than half the price of the Pro V1 makes them even nicer. They may not be a 'tour ball', but I'm not on the tour, and I don't have a ball contract.

I go back and forth between ProV1 and Bridgestone Tour B X. For me, the Tour B feels softer and is generally better around the green but from the tee and fairway, I prefer the ProV1.

So when I need to buy balls, how I'm feeling that day defines which one I buy.

I would say Chrome Soft feels slightly softer then ProV1 to me.  I am planning on switching to Chrome Soft once I use up the ProV1 logo overruns that I have in stock LOL.  I like that they are made in the US and I shot the best round of my life playing a Chrome Soft so it must be a magical miracle ball...  Or maybe it was just that one ball in particular...

Best bets if you want softer feel without compromising spin too much will be Chrome Soft (red box) and the Bridgestone BXS (white and blue box).

"hit them onto the range" lets try throw them in the bag and give them to a kid you pass by in the parking lot. 😎

I would argue "soft" is subjective. There seems to be a consensus that the Chrome Soft fits the bill, however.

My cousin used to play the ProV1 and has been playing the B XS for the past 3 years.  Very soft and spins like a mother.

I second this minus i wont throw a prov1 out lol ive never had a good round that i looked down to see what im playing and it was a prov1. Matter of face chrome soft is the only high end ball ive found myself to play well. The balls i allways play best are the mid level ones like cally supersoft superhot.. titleist velocity or their other mid level balls.. srixon soft feel or q star also z star is good. Bridgestone i dont get along with for some reason and feel a little more hard then other soft balls. The cheapest ball that plays great for me??? A noodle. Excellent cheap ball and you get 15 in a pack. Durable, long and soft stops just fine. Feels good on putter. I just hit a drive 280 with a noodle. Thats long for me.

My club recycles standard balls into range balls, so unlike most ranges our range balls are all standard balls. We don't have kids on our course, other than the local high school team. I donate my old clubs to them.

The Kirkland ball feels very soft.  I can be too spinny for some people, but it works well for me.  For my game it performs very similar to a ProV1 at a fraction of the cost.

Bridgestone Tour B XS and Kirkland are softer than Pro V1 and are the closest thing to spin as the old balata

One correlation that holds up is that spin rate goes up with compression.  An example is Titleist AVX, Pro V1 and Pro V1x with compressions of 80, 87 and 97, respectively and spin rates increase in that order (data from the recent test at the other website).  The Kirkland compression is 94 and it's well known for its high spin rate.

I've played a number of balls over the past few years and I too prefer a softer, spinnier ball. the Bridgestone Tour BXS and Chrome Soft are very nice, but dont overlook the Srixon Z-Star as well, especially for the price. I found all three to perform about the same as the Prov1 but give me a slightly softer feel a nice amount of spin.

I didn't realize the Kirkland was that high of compression.  It feels really soft to me.
