Defective tees!

Got paired up with another 2some yesterday a.m. and had to watch this poor guy all day struggle to get his ball on the tee. I've always used the method of having the ball in my hand with the tee sticking out between the forefinger and middle finger. Stick the tee in the ground, remove hand and ... presto! ball is teed up. Well this poor guy would take a tee, stick it in the ground and press it in with his thumb. But EVERY TIME it was *slightly* tilted away from him. He'd then take his ball, place it on the tee and try to get it balanced. Well as you can imagine, it didn't go well. Took him several tries, usually a tee adjustment/push. After 3 or 4 holes he exclaimed, "&*^&%^ I JUST BOUGHT THESE TEES. ^%^$&&$ DEFECTIVE!"

 

Maybe I should have said something but I also have a sadistic streak and wanted to see how long it would go on....

To be fair to the guy, I have had a tee before where there is a dimple on the top due to a manufacturing issue, and no matter what the ball just won't stay.  Like 99% of golfers, I use the same method as you.  But it was frustrating and embarrassing until I figured it out.

I have had a few shaky hands hangover mornings on golf trips and once the ball falls off a few times it feels like you will never get it to balance.

Amazing just how many people follow in that guy's frustrating (why won't my tee and ball work) footsteps.  I've watched people kneel down on the ground as if drilling a hole fidgeting about to get the tee in the ground and ball to set on top.  Some of them take forever...  And that's only the start of their golf challenges. LOL

Martini tees!!  My right hand shakes just enough some days that getting the ball on the tee is a pain in the __ss!

Yeah I've seen those "dimples" but I don't think this was the case here. Not when the ball fell off the tee in the same direction every time. 🤣

Occasionally, I have this dream of being chased around a golf course by a guy wearing a caddy bib.  I have an iron boot on my left foot and can't run that fast.

I hate to tell you guys but you're all doing it wrong. The pointy end doesn't go in the ground, it's the rounded side that does. The extra mass gives it more stability underground and the flared edges dig in, kind of like a jacket for a screw that you put into your wall. 

 

The dimples on the ball make it very easy to balance the ball on the pointy edge of the tee. That's what it's for. Also, reduced friction from the pointy edge gives you an extra 3-4 yds of distance. This is one of the most common equipment mistakes i see amateurs make

My kids are getting into golf and I don't have the heart to tell them that they don't have to sit on the ground and use a club as a hammer to put the tee in the ground. It is fun watching them figure it out on their own. Guess some never figure it out...

My tees are defective too. Everytime I tee one up it goes like 60-70 yards right of the fairway. Ridiculous.

I bought a pack of plastic tees with three prongs. They are supposed to help the ball go 3 yards further. I found them much more difficult to tee up than a standard tee. Not worth the questionable 3 yard gain.

I can 100% guarantee you he tried to return these for a refund, posted a nasty review for the course he played even though he bought the tees at Target and complained to golfnow and got a $20 tee time credit on his account.

I've had a lot of plastic tees that would bend in firm turf. I'm pushing straight down and the damn thing is crooked when I move my hand! Nothing but wooden tees now.

Does anyone use two tees tied together with a string? 

 

I've been using these DIY tees where I use my 15 lb. test monofilament fishing line to connect two plastic tees, one long one for driver shots and one short one for iron shots. 

 

Using this setup allows me to reuse the tees for at least a month without losing them as I always have one of the tees not in use to be embedded in the ground when hitting.

Lol, the fat guy on the golfmates channel uses some similar method. 

 

I agree about the plastic tees. They don't break but they often bend. I'm back to wood.

 

I liked the occasional 'brush-tee' back in the day.  Are they still around?

For some reason doing it the way op does, I have trouble with the ball falling off more often. I hate to admit it, but I do it basically the same way Mr "defective tees" does it. I just am better at getting them more vertical lol.

I got the same tees and Sqairz shoes. Picked up an instant 11 yards!
