Blades only... rank clubs you've owned based only on feel

Kmagnuss

Recommended Posts

I'm curious to hear what blades you think 'feel' the best... and you have to have owned them at some point... not just tried them out.

For me:

1-MP33 (still own)

2-MP20 (sold when I realized the 33's were better)

3-1986 Titleist Tour Model (still own)

4-(sort of a blade) MP18-SC (still own)

5-Nike VR TW (currently in bag)

# 1 - 1957 Baby Blade (own them)

# 2 - Craftsman World TB-Zero (own them)

# 3 - Nike OG Forged Blade (owned them, looking for another)

# 4 - MP-33 (owned them)

(....I have a set of KM-700s waiting to be built as well, but I can't place them on the list yet)

Best feeling are a set of MacGregor Pro-M that are raw.

My current stable of blades includes Titleist Tour Model, 712MB, Maxfli Aussie Blades, Yamaha SX-25, Wood Brothers Championship, Mizuno MP14, and Wilson Staff Models.  It might just be the raw nature of the Macs, but they feel so good.

Back in the late 90s, when I dabbled playing in a local mini tour event, a slew of guys played Mizuno MP 14's.   I tested them, they were fine clubs.  I don't recall why I settled on MP 29s. 🤔

This is hard for me to choose as I'd hate to know how many sets of irons I've owned in the last 60 years or so.

Currently have 712 MB, MP-18, and Hogan blades.  MacGregors were great as were the early Mizuno's.  Really tough to decide which was best because, just like the rest of you, I've sold them all but the aforementioned 3.

1 Epon AF Tour MB

2 Miura Tournament Blade

3 Mizuno MP-32

My Tournament Blades are not as butterish as 1957 Baby Blades. Those would be on top my list but as I have only tested my friends 2i so not gonna put them there.

1. Ben Hogan Apex II Blades (Sold) - amazing soft feel. I can still remember a single specific shot hitting a Tour Balata with the Equaliser. That shot was >25 years ago. They dont make them like that anymore.

2. Mizuno MP5 (Sold) - lovely feel, didnt bother to try the new copper undelays due to the Mizuno delay and went to some Srixon ZX7s instead. Would be intrigued to try as Mizuno make really special clubs in the feel dept.

My list based only on feel....

Mizuno MS-11s

MacGregor PMB

Palmer Original Standards / 78 Standards

Wilson Staff 84 Tour Blades (the line over model)

MacGregor Muirfields

Wilson Staff FG17 or 78 Staffs

Of the above, I still have the Mizunos, Muirfields, and 78 Staffs.  Really wish I'd hung on to the 78 Standards, I had 1-PW.  Was a DGX player at the time, they had DGS.  Idiot.

1. Wilson Staff FG-51: current set

2. Ben Hogan 1999 Apex: sold this spring after playing for a year

The FG-51s are unreal and way under the radar. They have that signature powerful Wilson feel but with a modern sole design. The soft buttery feel of the Endo Hogans was incredible but I lrefer the solid Wilson feel, smaller profile, and mild offset.

3. Wilson Staff ‘76 Tour Blade: bought for $40 and gave to a friend

4. Wilson Staff 1987 Fluid Feel: current winter set

These are my birth year blades. They look a play great but don’t have the same feel. The sharp leading edge is best on firm turf.
