Uncle Cardy, while I'm certainly more than happy to celebrate the Holiday Spirit with pity and mercy and put this before the Committee for a decision, there is a horribly unfortunate set of circumstances at play here.  

 

You see, today is Saturday and the Committee doesn't work on weekends.  Then Monday is Christmas and the Committee doesn't work on Christmas either, obviously.  Then, the Committee will take off for a much needed vacation during the week between Christmas and New Year's Day as this year's BISC management has been far more taxing than in years past.  So the absolute earliest the Committee could rule on your motion would be Tuesday, January 2nd, by which time you will have almost assuredly bowed out of the BISC for the year 2024.  

 

As unfortunate as all that is, the Committee does want to apologize for your lack of foresight and timeliness and wish you all the best towards your opportunity, miniscule thought it may be, for success in the BISC for 2025.

Fortunately/unfortunately my bag is set and will be set for 2024.  Due to economic conditions and everything costing an arm and a leg now, my golfing funds are not what they once were.  Instead of spending a few hundred dollars on a club I’d rather play a few times instead. 
 

I have been fortunate since COVID to test a lot of clubs and feel my current set up is what fits me best.  While I don’t have current or prior year model clubs, I have tried current and prior model clubs against mine and nothing knocks them out. 
 

So next year, whatever funds are available will go towards playing and not wasting money on clubs that aren’t going to improve my game.  
 

At first I was kinda bummed about  this, but now I am all in. Just playing and not worrying about equipment has me excited for 2024.

Causes for concern

I am an unabashed shaft hoe when it comes to drivers. And if things are going wonky for a day or two I will swap drivers or shafts just to mix it up. But I'm going to be strong!

Prediction 

I will be fine during simulator season, then I head to Bandon April 1 and Ireland April 19. Strong chance the "spare shaft" gets swapped during one of those trips if things go sideways. Note, I always bring a spare shaft on trips in case something gets damaged. You can live without an iron, but not driver.

I’m going to give this a try and I’m either going to be one of the first out, or I’m in it to win it.

My cap went up 3 to a 13 this year, so I bit the bullet and will go full “old man” (I’m turning 70 in June).

With my now 85mph SS I went Senior flex in everything but the two wedges (which could get reshafted).

While I do agree that the Committee has been far too lenient over the years and more disciplinary action should have been taken, it occurs to me that some of us, I mean, some of y'all would require drastic penalties in order to actually dissuade you from changing up the clubs in your bag.  

 

I mean, death by firing squad might not even be enough of a deterrent for a true degenerate like @Mych 😂

Almost time to declare. 
Weather permitting I have x3 rounds to play this year to finalise the bag. I have rounds booked for 3rd and 5th Jan, so based on past form the 5th Jan looks like the weak spot. 
We’ve had a late putter melt down, where Old Faithful just became Old and now an EBay purchased Odyssey Two Ball is holding off some expensive Scotty Cameron hardware. 
 

I hope the Committee enjoys its down time whilst we idiots agonise over 56 or 54, 15 or 17.5’, Graphite Design or Ventus, Scotty or Toulon, 0317 cb or T100, hybrid or driving iron, set or specialist gap wedge, 9’ or 10’, steel or graphite iron shafts, 7 wood or hybrid…….

My game has so many holes in it, there's no chance the firing squad would hit enough of me to get the job done.

I like futility. I enter the Masters drawing every year. I have a better chance of winning that than I do with this challenge. But I enter ( and am out early) every year, and traditions are important. So here goes:

Problem is, I don’t know when we’ll be able to have an actual round again. And when I just go out and dink around I’ve been taking my Cobra Pro Forged irons and old TM wedges. And I have a new Stealth + head due here Wednesday to go on an extra shaft I have here. 
 

So while the actual bag is set, the first golf activity could take place with a different setup. Which means in all likelihood I’ll be out by the 2nd golf activity. 
 

But tradition dictates I sign up annually!

2 quick things:

 

1. The Committee has to agonize over when FedEx is going to show up with their '24 Callaway driver & irons because the longer that shipment takes, the more likely they are to play a round in the new year and be out immediately after the gear arrives.  The Committee also is beholden to, and struggling mightily with, the same rules of engagement as all other participants!

2. After reading your list of agonizations, I'm installing you as the odds on favorite to win the "Most glorious BISC failure of the year" for the 2nd year running.  That said, as we've seen in other lesser pursuits (NFL, Heisman Trophy, NHL (National Horseshoe League), Ping Pong in Ding Dang), it is hard to win two 'ships in a row, so we're going to have to see some real commitment to failure from you this year.  For the thousands in attendance and the millions watching from home, I genuinely hope you are up to the task!

I hear you…my bag is now basically Mizuno and Cobra…but like you I can see it being majority Mizuno in the next year. My Cobra Baffler & hybrid are safe until they break, same with putter. So only spot in future that may be up for grabs is LW…but my hi toe just works and I very rarely have to use it so why get a new one 🤷🏻‍♂️

There's not a single one of these methods that I haven't considered self-inflicting during a golf round, so I've daydreamed extensively about how to end the golf nightmare but haven't been able to kill the accompanying dream yet.

 

Plus, if those methods of execution are controlled by the golf gods, I'll surely endure enough torture to kill any ordinary human, then they'll permit me to have a magical moment that makes me come back for more torture. "Whatever doesn't kill me" I guess...
