My plan for 2024 was pretty much sorted up to the point a set of new p760 heads came up on eBay. Followed by new recoil 110 f4 shafts. I doubt if I can get these built up and trialled by 31/12. Not yet out, but hanging by a thread….

Sadly as I watch the first snow storm today, I feel so good about the setup in my bag at the moment. Snow will pile up, temps will be cold, sky will be grey and the oems will be shipping out the new models. Then the sun will shine again and my bag will be a testing ground for 2024. As every year…I’m out early

I did pretty well by my standards last year, I might actually make it this time.  I am currently planning to play this setup come January:

The only things changing since last year are a new hybrid and driver shaft. There is some tinkering left to do, but it will just be specs like length, lie, and swing weight.  I'd like to say I'm feeling pretty confident, but you know... famous last words and all.

As with every year, I've noticed a bit of scuttlebutt regarding the timing of the BISC and how it lines up with new product releases, early season golf, northern weather patterns, the value of the yen, if it is an el nino year or not, how funky my (or someone else's) monkey is, and other globally impactful events.  So I sat down with the committee and discussed this dynamic and here is what we came up with:

 

1. Being an undefeated conference champion matters.

2. You've had all year to tinker, 2024 is your year to have a bag that is finally "SET."  That is the point of this challenge.  If you HAVE to get to a demo day to hit all the new '24 gear, then the 2025 BISC is your shot at this.  

3. You are the 2nd biggest brand in CFB and a rematch of your signature win would make us an absolute TRUCKLOAD of money.

4. Roll Tide Roll!

 

I realize that I'm a day late here, but I'm trying to bury the lead because I've heard that another Committee also had some not-so-popular decisions come down the pike recently so maybe, just maybe, this will fly under the radar.

Well I will be out in Marchish or so.  That is when I change out my wedges (every year for the 60* and 56*).  I have never been able to participate in this event due to this issue.

 

Now I change out typically with the exact same wedge(same length, lie, HW, SW, shaft and bounce) but depending upon the year I may go from SM8 to 9 or Ripcore 5 to 6.  However this year it is replacing a Ripcore (mid) 6 for 6 in the 56* and sm9 for sm9 (T) in the 60.

 

Does that still remove me, or do I have a chance?  I don't change earlier because I am am not trying to wear down my wedges before things get good temperature wise here in Atlanta.

Causes for concern:

My general unhappiness with my hybrid shaft and my general malaise in replacing my wedges. Additionally, I have never had a putter that did not, at some point, totally betray me.

 

Prediction:

Assuming I play at the rate I have been, I think I can make it to possibly April-May. Anything after that is gravy 😆!

 

As a fact check, I have no track record which would support that claim or anything over 2.5 months.

While talking with a PGATSS employee (who previously worked at Dick's House of Sport in Knoxville), I mentioned that they (PGATSS) would likely put EW out of business. He said that EW hasn't renewed their current lease.

I went head and purchased a wide flanged blade putter now, so I do not have that to worry about doing it next year.  I have updated the bag below and will lock this it.  I am quite confident I will be able resist buying irons.  The big challenge is going to be sticking with a single putter all year!!  🤞

Causes for concern

After a poor putting round, I am quick to go back to one of the backup putters (see above).  I have until January 1st to figure out which one will be in the bag to start out in the bag.  The biggest issue will be that I really want to get a new set of irons in 2024.
Prediction 

I suspect I will make it until March or April.  It will take some intestinal fortitude to not quickly change putters, but I suspect the urge to get new irons will be my ultimate downfall.

This setup has as good a chance as any MBIS I’ve put up here. 
 

The Paradym is a perfect fit for me (one range session). 

I played last Saturday with the irons and I really like them, no issues with hitting them square and solid.

The fairway and hybrids are very consistent, not looking to change them as it takes a lot of experimenting to get the top settled.

 

Guessing I’ll give up the ghost around March when I get an itch to get more distance from my irons. (Which will trigger a series of strategic trades).
 

Or if I see something unbelievably tempting at the local shop between now and then.
