Mexico Open at Vidanta 2024

Beginning this thread kinda feels like I am in stuck floating in space, shouting into the abyss. Will anyone hear it? Will anyone care? Events like this present something of a quandary; there has to be events where those lower down the ecosystem can play, to improve and ready themselves to move into more rarified air but it's hard to garner interest when the event is so lacking star power. One day the likes of Nicolai Hojgaard may well be a star player, someone living within the confines of the signature events but for now, he is not and the same can be said for the majority of the field. Fine players, each and everyone of them but needle moving, they are not. What to expect? It's hard to say but us golf sickos will at least be able to tell those less inclined to our fanatical approach that we saw (insert players name here) win when they make it into the next event that attracts greater attention (and no, Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, I am not talking about you).

I laughed when I saw this thread pop up, as I was thinking exactly the same thoughts. Could be a tough watch, i'm pretty die hard but I doubt i'll watch much this weekend in all honesty. I certainly won't be booting the wife out of the living room to watch it anyways!

Sounds like a nice place.  Perhaps I will take a few days and head down there.  Love to see Tony Finau.  Heard the restaurants have Malta Oscura Mussels.  The hotel does a shuttle to the course.  I won't send pictures.

Agreed. Plan on heading down there to a friend's place a couple times this year. I'll watch a bit just to see the course that he's always talking about.

Someone can get their first PGAT win at the Mexico Open. There will be 500 FedEx Cup points on the line for the winner and a two year exemption. Tiger's first professional tournament was the Greater Milwaukee Open. Could be the start of something big for a player starting his career.

 

I expect drama coming down the back nine on Sunday, regardless of who the names are.

I was there and out on the course in November.  If you get a chance to stay at Vidanta take it.  Very cool place.  One of my guys got through the first qualifier for this event.

They need to go back to Chapultepec. That was always a fun event and I actually enjoyed how quirky that course was. With that said I’m putting all my money on the mule skinner: Milton this week (Tony Finau)

This is the correct answer. Every venue that they play in Mexico is bunk. Chapultepec was actually a fun course to watch with the high elevation and the massive urban environment. It was also a WGC so that prob added to its watchability big time. I think it would still be better than the east and west coast venues.

 

just to be clear all the courses on the coasts are fun to play on vacation but for some reason they just don’t cut it on tv and the lame fields do not help.

also resort towns dont get the locals out as much as being nearbye mexico city. both the wwt,  mayakoba, and vidanta have lesser crowds than what mexico is capable of for a big golf tournament imho.

Vidanta is a great property. The golf course is decent, couple of tough holes with the wind into. The rest of the course is wide open. 
 

Not quite firm yet, but should be by the weekend with nothing but sun for the forecast

I’d like to stay here and attend this event, but a while back I stayed at a resort in Cozumel and got so sick I figured can’t go back. Bummer, as the place looks awesome, and the tournament looks like a lot of fun to attend.
