Most ridiculous thing heard on the range

Witnessed this exchange while sitting down on a bench behind the stalls taking a breather btw shots.

20-something gf?: "You know you can see you knob in those shorts."

Bf?: [huge s-eating grin]: Relax babe, that's why I'm holding the follow through. Peni$ to the pin as they say."

20-gf: "Who's they?"

Bf: ...ask anyone

Was really interested how he was going to answer her question. A lightning quick wit on the young man.

Ok you never 'golfed' with him. Have you baseballed, hockyed, footballed, soccered, with him? Come on guys, it's ...'played golf'..jeez!

golf

ɡälf,ɡôlf/

verb

past tense: golfed; past participle: golfed

I gotcha' brother. Fully aware of what the book says is proper. But I'm thinking the person that wrote that originally was not a player of our game. Just another one of those weird things in the English language. I still prefer my way of saying it. :)

10 years ago David Gossett at our local covered range had the four stalls to his right and left roped off. It was an awful spring day with heavy rain. Asked the guy standing behind him "coaching" (whatever) the reason why and he said "so nobody will bother David. There were at least 10 folks waiting to hit while this turd took up 30% of all open stalls for himself.

"So nobody would bother David." ????

What, they think folks would go over there to give him swing tips?

Or ask when AK is coming back?

Or .....

Maybe it's because I wouldn't recognize the guy if I tripped over him.

I literally just Googled him to see who he was. Couldn't pick him out of a line up.

I would not have given two hoots WHO he was if I was running that range--- My other customers would not have been waiting to hit balls they paid good money to hit--- And If I was a customer and they let him get away with that well I would never be a customer again.

With the amount he flies his club will be free wherever, plus the way he's playing it might be better for him to just grab some rentals when he gets to the course...

Yesterday played a county course. Have a grass range but had the tees up in front on the range. When they do this they post a "irons only" sign. The end of the range about 230 from this point. So an older couple is there, she was "crushing" her driver 125 or so. Being about 5' tall and 90 pounds not bad. Well you guessed it a county employee center over and told her she could not hit her driver. REALLY I said. Are you kidding, she is not hitting her driver as far as my gap wedge. Well it was not pretty, but I asked if I could hit my 5 hybrid, he said "don't be a wise a**". so I went to my brothers bag an got his driving iron teed it up and hit draws into the first fairway, end of range, as hard as I could. Did not make friends yesterday. They tried to get me thrown off the course. I reminded them that my tax dollars pay their salaries and they worked for us. I was told to leave, I said "call the police if you like", and walked to the first tee. Hit the longest drive of the year, straight through the dogleg into the woods.

Common sense is indeed not very common.

I don't understand the issue? The sign read, "irons only". The old lady was breaking the rules...

Yep. Would make more sense to have a permanent sign that says something like "Do not hit golfballs out of the driving range boundaries". Puts the responsibility on the person swinging the club, where it belongs.

Most municipal courses are funded by the course itself which is why so many run in the red. The only way you paid his salary was with your range ball money...like every other effing course on the planet.

Common sense is a b!tch for some people.

The tax payers built 3 golf courses and purchased 4 more. They have the best of everything, New mowers, carts, you name it. When my family bought a golf course in the 70s we could not compete with the money tree that was the county. They charged less for a better product with an army of employees and the nicest facilities. It was all funded and supplemented by the county. It really was unfair to charge the tax payers that did not play golf, but it's like complaining about school taxes when you don't have kids. All and all it is maybe the best county in the country to play golf in. The courses just had 3 in the top 20 public places to play in the state. They are feeling the down turn in golf and have gotten creative to try to make up the short fall. Between the corruption of 20 years ago, which WE fixed and the attitude of service of the employees it will get interesting in the net 10 years or so as they continue to have to make cuts.

That said 95 present of the employees are great and a lot of fun to be around and play golf with. There is always those apples. "Little kingdom syndrome" I like to call it.

Yes I do know that they are subsidize, my brother is on the board in one of the larger towns in the county.
