Robert Damron (remember him?) having a go at Justin Thomas

I was just having a scroll through Twitter and came across a Tweet from Justin Thomas in which he said that he was not playing the API because he is attending one of his best friends weddings. Former Tour Pro and 'fledgling golf commentator' (his words) Robert Damron has had a go at Thomas for skipping.

I've posted before that I am a fan of a Thomas so it will possibly come as no surprise that I think Damron is out of line criticising Thomas so hard for this. If one of my best friends was getting married I would be making the same decision as a Thomas.

Interesting to hear you guys take on this...

That is a very low comment to make. If I was in the position that JT is in, I would make the same decision. A very good friend of his is getting married.

I worked for Arnie and served him a few times at Latrobe CC. He was always talking about how important friends and family are. He lived his life that way. He cared about people so much. I'm sure if he were alive he would be completely fine with JT's decision.

Not that i knew Arnold Palmer, but my guess is that if Thomas had called him with this reason for missing the tournament, he would've been fine with it.

Odd criticism and hate the whole Twitter jabbing people thing.

Justin doesn't want to play, up to him - but if he didn't have the wins and the season he's been having would he pass?

I'm sure if he was living week to week out of a van or something hoping to keep his card he'd show up. But that's the inverse situation in that i'm sure his friend would have understood him missing the wedding. When me and my wife got married she had some friends away on internships that we knew wouldn't be able to make it due to cost of coming home just for that.

I think reasonable people understand reasonable circumstances for sure. In this case of course (as you know) Thomas clearly has the flexibility due to him having already earned some serious bread

No question, and much bigger names have caught heck for skipping Bay Hill and never really got that.

I'm more glad the child won't be slamming his putter down on the greens repeatedly because he missed a putt.

Are we sure his real name isn't Richard Damron? He seems more like a Richard.

Don't really like the almost bullying tactics of certain people to get players to play at Bay Hill. It's not a major or a WGC and they can't play every week, I'm sure sponsors of other events wouldn't be happy if they changed their plans to all fit in this event. It doesn't lessen his legacy if a few players don't play an event he was involved in after he passes. It should have Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and maybe Tiger Woods so it's not as if they're going to be struggling to sell tickets.

Jordan Spieth for example has never played in the event. He's from Texas so he has a great affiliation to there, so plays the Houston Open, Texas Open, Byron Nelson, Colonial, that schedule works for him, where it wouldn't for some other players. Lots of players live in Florida so Bay Hill is easier for them.

I've never heard of Robert Damron and it wouldn't upset me if it stayed that way. He has all the makings of another annoying as h3ll shock journalist.

Could be the PGA Tour gave Justin a one week time out for the kindergarten behavior on the course this Sunday, bit let him save face by making up his own reason for sitting out.

Doubtful.

Fine? yeah probably. Suspension? conspiracy theory

I like Damron, but that could change with this kind of crap. He needs to STFU and stay out of another man's pants. I note he calls him "Uncle Arnie", and we know he grew up at Bay Hill the son of a super wealthy coal family. Seems he is confused about real world vs. the Orlando playground for the rich.

Damron- "Go pound salt".
