You don't know who Tommy Armour is? Please tell me you're joking. The clubheads looks pretty frickin' nice.

Looks a lot nicer that my TA1 irons haha. But they have been great clubs for me over the last 6 months. I added a GXT wedge too. I can't tell the difference in quality between it and my old cleveland.

Yes. I have a 1-SW set of the 1988 845s as well. Where did you get those pictures?? Last time I checked, TA is owned by Dick's and have been selling "B-List" type of clubs for quite sometime. I'm quite surprised they're willing to spend $$$ to step up on their offerings.

Maltby has done some design work for TA in the past. Not sure what models in particular and not sure about these specifically either but...

  • 1 month later...

Got to see and swing the new TA Forged irons, and Woods today at my local Golf Galaxy. The forged iron had a PX LZ 6.0 shaft in it. The Driver had a HZRDUS Smoke shaft.

The driver felt a bit stiff and heavy for some reason. I play the HAZRDUS Smoke 6.0 in my current driver, and the TA just felt different. Good, but different. Even with a different feel, it was lazer like. Every drive was nearly the same. It looked like I was tracing the line. Over and over again.

The forged iron was sweeeeeeet. The feel is as good as anything out there. It felt like the soft feel of Mizuno, but softer, and soft, all over the face. Distance was decent. Not as long as other Players Distance irons I've hit, (could be the shaft for my swing), but definitely longer than the average Players iron. The only downside I see, is the price. Tommy Armour is only producing 500 sets of the forged iron. So you will be in a small crowd if you game them. But at $999.00 per set, I'll stick with my Titleist.

Driver: Callaway Mavrik

4 Wood: PXG Gen 5

7 Wood: PXG Gen 5

Irons: Cleveland ZipCore XL (5-AW)
Wedges: Cleveland CBX 4 ZipCore  (54, 58)
Putter: Toulon Memphis

This is disappointing to here that only 500 sets of the new forged irons are going to be produced. I was really looking forward to these. I still game a set of TA 986 tour irons quite a bit. But at $1,000 I can't see myself pulling that trigger. I was really hoping they would be in the $600 range. I think that's a bad decision on there end. I also have a atomic driver. performance is great but the sound is off putting to me. It currently sets in the corner of a room collecting dust.

Hit these today. They had the 6.0 LZ shafts in them. The shafts weren’t Isela for me but these felt as good as everything else I tried. Specifically the cobra king forged Tec I went in to hit. The store manager did mention he thought they would come in at $799 if he remembered correctly. More intriguing at that price point as opposed to the $999 others have mentioned

Putter: Cobra Stingray 40

I started playing TA last year. Started with the Atomic irons, then got the Atomic 5-wood, then got a couple of the VCG wedges and picked up an Atomic driver in the fall when they were $200. All of the clubs are legit and as good as anything Ive ever played (and Ive played pretty much everything that the major OEMs have made in the last 20 years).

Add in that they are usually a great value too and you have a winner. I love that DSG brought back a classic name like TA and made it great again.

Saw the drivers today at Dick’s. The Atomic driver is down to $99 now, while the newer one (the TA, I believe) was on sale at $199. The newer one looked way better to me, looked really good behind the ball. Profile and footprint suited my eye. Seemed easy to aim. Had a nice matte finish

Hear good things about last year’s Atomic in terms of value, but the looks were distracting. The crown has rows of cheap looking ridges. It looks like the Atomic couldn’t decide whether it wanted to be a baseball or a golf club. Hard not to notice.

They had the TA cast irons, not the forged.

A lineup of solid-looking golf clubs overall for affordable prices.

I saw the new one the other day as well in a demo/hitting bay. They weren’t on the floor anywhere. I think it’s they are using the 845 name. It’s in the golf galaxy mailer I got. If I can find it again I’ll confirm the name.

Got to test the 2020 Tommy Armour 845 irons varieties this afternoon.

For my personal, I have driver clubhead speed of about 87 MPH, and carry my 7i 140 yards (w/KBS Tour 90 R-flex shaft at 101 gr.)

TA 845 Forged: Great looking irons. I hit the 7i with a PX 6.0 LZ (120 grams) shaft. Felt nice and smooth, but ball didn't go anywhere. Got about 120 yards carry and 13 yards rollout - not what you want in a short iron. Just too much for me. Later hit it with XP85, still not high enough launchTA 845 Max: Hefty head with low sole weighting, really got the ball up nicely with XP.85 S300 shaft. Almost too nice. Shaft so light I tended to overswing, has most bad shots of three. Had anywhere from 120 to 140 yds. carry. Some stopped quick others ran out a bit. Yes, it has thick topline, but it launched the ball well and felt good. Just not sure about shaft.TA 845: Hit with XP85, felt most solid of the three. Also tried it with Recoil EXS 460 graphite. Most shots with this head really felt solid, with some carries beyond 140 yds.Takeaway: Would like to hit the Max and base 845 heads with Elevate 95 shafts, and - if available - the Recoil 760/780 shafts. If I switch irons, I really want to go with graphite. But, shaft needs good balance, can't be too light. I'll have to find out whether any upgrade shafts are available for new 845 family.

Elevate 95 are stock shafts for the 845 Forged, but no Elevate shafts were available in the test irons (with head adaptors for multiple shafts). No specs sheet on XP85, I would guess weight around 90 grams.
