I listened to that podcast and Peter Kostis was very interesting. TV golf was the main topic of discussion and it was very insightful but the last 10-15 mins of the podcast went elsewhere to other topics.

I guess it confirms what many thought about Reed and those that wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt have had their hopes dashed.

The "set the clubs behind the ball to tap down the rough" is pretty generally regarded as one of the most often broken rules on tour, happens every weekend. I guess you could sub out Reed's name and put anyone else's name on there and I would believe it.

But IMO its just annoying when people in situations like Kostis come out after the fact with all this "news" and start to pile on. "Oh hey here are all these things I saw but when they happened I couldn't actually say anything". There was no one he could tell or talk to offline or off the record about this? Really? I absolutely do not believe that. He had enough of a name out there that he could have pulled someone aside, said something off the record, hey I cant be involved but here's what I saw. If he was actually as concerned as he claimed to be.

Reed deserves to be shamed. Until Reed stops being the victim and becomes accountable for his own actions he deserves every bit of ridicule directed his way.

I dont disagree.

But I also hate when people take the approach that Kostis has here. Hate it. Its so important to you to protect the integrity of the game blah blah blah - that you did exactly nothing.

Its interesting to read , and Patrick Reed seems like a jerk so people will continue to pile on after what he did recently

But the stuff Kostis is describing , we've all seen many players do. Kenny Perry literally won a tournament in a playoff with some of the most blatant stomping behind a ball I've ever seen.

I dont think grounding many different clubs behind a call to improve the lie a bit is something only Reed does

The reason many people in Kostis' position don't call out cheaters is that they know nothing will happen and it will hurt their career. He now is retired and can speak freely. Most people look out for themselves because they know no one else will. You don't have to look around much to see why.

I wish CBS had made they Kostis/ McCord changes because they wanted to improve their product. Sadly it appears just another example of mismanagement that we witness every day in all kinds of organizations.

I think Brooks Koepka expressed how he felt without caring about what others thought. He was clear and not concerned, perhaps this is making others more comfortable sharing their experiences on the matter. It’s ticklish ground, you can’t simply call out a guy without 100% certainty and proof. Truth is, Reed’s behavior has ultimately revealed his true character.

How does he know nothing will happen? For YEARS players got dinged with penalties because anonymous dummies would call in from their couches. You dont think Kostis going to an official off the record - hey, might want to check the tape from tower X, here's what I saw - would have the same weight as Joe Blow calling from his living room?

And for what purpose is he speaking so freely now - just to pile on? People that hate Reed already hate him - this isn't going to change anyone's mind. He's piling on and keeping his name in the news, seems like "looking out for himself" is exactly what he is still doing.

Reed has come off like an absolute jerk in the last six months and certainly has dug his own grave. To me Kostis looks even worse here.

Agree. I give zero respect to someone who piles on after the fact. Speak up at the time or shut up now. Why ? It’s hard to believe anything someone doesn’t have enough conviction to risk anything for. If you have to have the risk lowered to zero to speak out. Then you don’t believe what you sure saying enough.

It is not possible for me to disagree more with this. You are telling us we are to take your word that this is common practice on tour and that almost every player, on every tour, every week improves their lie in the same manner that Reed does? Or are we to take Kostis’ word for it, a guy who has been inside the ropes for 30 years calling professional golf who said that 99.9% of golfers (not including Reed) do everything by the book?

While I do agree with your points, I just think Kostis didnt...."whistleblow" because if he did, he would be out of a job. In the NLU podcast he states that the PGA Tour runs the show. He wasnt controlled by them directly, but they controlled CBS who was his employer. The PGA Tour doesnt want anything negative to come out about its players or TV stations, so Kostis kept his mouth shut in order to keep his job. I mean, he once told a new winner that hes got to feel good about winning because he now has 2 years of job security and gets to go to the Masters and the PGA Tour took issue with it because he didnt mention the 600 FedEx cup points he got. So he did it again to spite them and he lost post round interviews because of it. If he talked openly about situations like Reed's, the PGA Tour would have shut him down a long time ago.

This is far from the first time that Kostis has called Reed out. He's just not beholden to CBS and the PGA Tour anymore, and so now there's no reason not to open up with both barrels.

I understands the sentiment but I don't think it applies in this case. He's spoken up on TV before so it's not like he was keeping quiet to protect his own circumstances and when those change he suddenly speaks up.

Also the PGA Tour commissioner circled the wagons around Reed so I 100% understand why a lowly on-course wouldn't get involved in a more direct way. Jay Monahan defends Patrick Reed amid controversy: 'I believe Patrick'

No, this was actually directly addressed by Kostis in the interview. He was asked if other players do this and he clearly said, "No". You may be thinking about playing weekend rounds at yuour local course whereby I agree that this does happen often. However, on the PGA tour, with Kostis watching thousands of rounds, he did not see other golfers do this. As anyone who plays golf with any decent skills knows, improving your lie in the rough makes all the difference in the world.

Well. Then there’s the contradiction to that from Brooks. Who says it’s happened to him a lot. If anybody here Th inks guys don’t improve their lies in the rough. You’re very blind. I posted several videos of Bubba and other players grounding wedges 3-5 times behind ball for practice swings. Exactly like read. Then swinging to miss the ball. Then again etc. then there’s the Gary player , seve approach to a ball in the rough. Ground your 3 wood until you can get an iron on it. Let’s call those guys cheaters too. Right ?

Agree. Virtually every pro tamps down the rough behind their ball on every shot in the rough. Some even do it with multiple clubs "trying to decide" what is the proper club selection.
