If Tiger started his own equipment brand

I’ve enjoyed every club that I’ve ever used that had tigers “influence”, particularly the irons. He has a good eye for equipment and seems to be passionate about testing it and giving his involvement. Is it a matter of time? And what should he name the brand?

I was thinking the same, but you know how creative some of our WRX brothers can be.

Jack Nicklaus had a brand of clubs, but that ended up not working out so well. I am not saying that would be the same case for Woods, but if he did do it it would probably have to be after he retired...he seems busy enough as it is, plus it's not like he needs the money.

I’m wondering what kind of putters that brand will offer, Newport 2 like?

I think the way he could go about it could be different from other manufacturers. He wouldn’t have to be “all in” the same way that they are. He is already the most popular athlete pretty much ever and has a track record of designing classy equipment, so he could release limited options and always sell out with no overrun. No mass producing clubs to sit on Dicks Sporting Goods shelves. Make high quality classy clubs that real players will be interested in.

Michael Jordan also didn’t “need” the money, but it sure worked out well for him, didn’t it?

He would have to give up his equipment contract which pays him millions, and I seriously doubt he would ever be able to sell enough clubs to make up for that loss.

Didn’t do much for Nike. Unless he was going for a high end product offering and not expecting to gain market share he’s better off staying with what he has

He won’t be with TaylorMade forever, because his playing years are probably almost over. And it isn’t really about the money anyway. He doesn’t “need the money” from this new golf course he designed either but he did it.

Not going to happen, he likes to get paid big bucks for using someone else's clubs made to his specs.

I can see the infomercial. “The Tigerwood will save you 6 shots a round!”

in all seriousness I could see him partnering with someone and doing a line of Tiger branded clubs, but in all likelihood they wouldn’t gain much traction and end up as a Boxed set at Costco.

It's much smarter for him to do what he's doing now with TM rather than having his own brand. He has access to everything TM has from design to testing to production to marketing. If he was on his own he'd have to pay for that, he's paying for nothing through TM releasing his own irons and possibly soon his own wedge grind.

From what I've seen any player that has their own brand doesn't do too well with clubs but when partnered with an OEM that line of products does much better.

Yeah, I feel like a partnership with a major manufacturer makes way more sense... he’s also not really a technology guy and is looking for equipment that hits his specific windows.

his Taylor made iron one offs seemed popular as a collectors item. I could see him releasing his own wedges and woods under the Taylor made umbrella.

Tiger has money, but not Bob Parsons type money. I doubt that TM will ever market a "Tiger's Own" line to compete with their existing lines. If OP has some inside info about why Tiger's competing days are about over, I wish he would share.

Tiger already got Nike and Taylormade to market blades that supposedly emulate his iron set at no cost to him. The last cavity back he played was Ping Eye2 as a junior. What does he know about cavity back clubs? He has no incentive to start his own club company.

Yep. I'm sure he must've learned something of what not to do when even his main sponsor got out of the club selling business.

I disagree with the idea that he didn't do much for Nike. I think he kept that division afloat for as long as it was. But that also showed that even the best golfer in the world cannot hold a golf company on his shoulders like Atlas. It takes teams of engineers and great marketing plus all of the other resources people don't commonly know about.

It would be cool cuz he'd definitely design some classically inspired clubs. he likes small simple club heads that don't spin too low. (which is almost impossible to find today)

Nike had 3 of the biggest names in golf with him, wie and Rors. They couldn’t increase market share with them. While tiger might have given them a boost they weren’t able to get over the hump
