I heard the same thing and the other player is none other then Tiger! Hence why he made the switch back to the TPHD shaft he is using now. No idea if this is just rumor or not but that is what I was told.

That would be amazing. I would never have to get fit for a shaft again.

Why?

I would imagine the other shaft companies are not thrilled about this. Imagine all the free player endorsements/advertisements the new Matrix will be getting.

Tour players rarely do anything for free. Usually do not put up their own money. Agree to promote the product in exchange for using their name and likeness.

So... if Tiger and DJ are owners then I assume they are putting up their own money. And I suppose they could bill themselves and then pay themselves for advertisements, if you want to put it like that.

Either way, the other shaft companies probably aren't thrilled. The other issue is that the new Matrix may not even need to hire tour reps, Tiger and DJ (and whoever else) will just be hooking up their fellow tour players with shafts all the time.

Just waiting for the tour event pictures here that show Tiger and DJ out there with a Trackman fitting other players. "I don't know Jordan, seems like you're getting a little too much spin here, let me run back to the van and get you one that's tipped an inch." Pay scheme for Tiger and DJ will be:

1) 40% ownership stake and profits;

2) Advertising income for playing the shaft; and

3) $15 per hour for doing fittings on practice round days

:taunt:

You sure that the quote won't be more like, "I think you are leaving yards on the table." :cheesy: :cheesy: :nyam:

Professional athletes rarely put up their own money when getting involved in things like this. They get an equity position in exchange for using the product and having their names attached to it. The people that put up the actual money are attracted due to the fact that a big name is involved.

Got to love these hot rumors. Last one was Tiger Woods was buying Taylormade. Other than being paid to play certain clubs it sure makes no sense for player to own a component company particularly not a shaft company. DJ is going to switch away from a shaft he has used since he turned pro, right. Next player they should recruit is Bubba Watson.. Golf pros are going to pay for research and experts and designers to come up with new shafts, again right. Kind of a risky business since the next hot prototype shaft seems to be every few weeks either by design or the new in paint job.. If Tigers and DJs financial guys think this would be a good idea, they need new people. How to make a million dollars in the golf shaft business? Have a few multimillionaires buy that company, they will be worth a million in no time.. whole thing sounds like a rumor started by a failing company looking for more bump than Tiger can provide by generating 45-53% driving accuracy with said shaft, which admittedly was better than 17/56 with the Tensei...

Word on the street :

Matrix Shafts will be owned by Tour Player(s)

Dustin Johnson is the only name that my source would give up.

This is big news for a golf shaft company and big news for our community. I'm expecting a big push in new technology and new generation marketing that could help us all.

Tour Golfers owning a company that we could all use and benefit from sounds really really cool.

Others names rumored to be involved with Matrix are Tiger, Wayne Gretzky and Bo Jackson per THP.

Pete Rose?

This is happening. The new owner comes from a baseball bat company who did the same thing with MLB players. They wouldn't have bought the company out of bankruptcy if they didn't have interest from players. Matrix is no longer going to do OEM shafts and only make the higher end shafts like the Ozik line that put them on the map. Exciting times ahead for them for sure. And yes, they will still have a tour rep or reps. Last I checked, Tiger and DJ don't have time to fit other players on the range and many shaft inventory and demos. But who knows, a lot of moving parts still to be decided upon.

Sounds like what Warstic did with Ian Kinsler and Jack White

I give this rumor more credibility than the previous TM acquisition talk due to the much smaller scale. Would be very interesting if we began seeing segments of the equipment market owned by the players, if this becomes successful where does it stop ?

I am a Matrix shaft fan so it's good news. More importantly it is great news for the Matrix staff and their families after months of uncertainty. For the players involved they obviously see a sector of the equipment market that hasn't been marketed to it's full potential and there is an opportunity there that can be used to their advantage - good luck to them.

It's interesting that Veylix was created because they were upset that Matrix started doing OEM driver deals. It's got to be a good but sad feeling knowing they were right in that Matrix was screwing up.
