You can’t take a medical if you aren’t hurt. He will get a certain number of events (5 in his case) to make a certain amount of money in order to keep his card. Very similar to John Peterson this year

Medical leave is the last resort for some pga players when their game is in trouble to save their career. There are legit reasons for some players and BS from others....

I just saw this on the GC Asian Tour coverage at SMBC Singapore Open. Can a kid beat Smylee Kaufman? Joshua Wi is competing against Smylee. Asked how he feels about his chances, "I'm quite confident." My money is on the kid. 24 hcp.

Kaufmann has 5 starts on the PGA Tour in 2019 under his major medical extension to earn approximately 304 FEC points to be exempt for the rest of 2019. Short of him winning an event or a couple top 3's it's unlikely he earns enough Fed Ex points in those 5 starts. Especially where his game currently is. Not playing well in Singapore.

It was lame. I guess it was just a closest to the pin competition with a few youngsters against the pros on that one par 3. I just saw the tee shots, Smylee stuck it maybe ~15ft and the kid sliced it short right, never saw if they went back and played out the hole or what. Best of luck to Smylee this season though. I hope he can find his game again.

Oh no Smylie! Poor guy. Shot a 74 yesterday in the Savannah Championship web.com event. But had a great round going today. Was -4 for the day, sitting right on the cut line heading to the tee box at 18, a par 5 that he birdied in round 1. Then proceeds to double bogey the hole :'( A par would have given him his first made cut in 14 months. But the drought continues.

I saw Smylie last week and talked to him a little. He’s searching right now. I bet if you picked a random player towards the bottom of the leaderboard it would look something like SK has been. We only see the consistently great players on TV all the time

If we are talking Tiger, sorta/kinda/maybe.... with the exception of 80 PGA Tour events wins to 1 PGA Tour event win. I think there lies the intrigue, and hes also the GOAT.

Yeah I'd say for a thread with 5 pages that has been around for two years, it's a bit of a stretch to say "everyone" is "obsessed" with smylie. It's something to talk about that'd golf related; everyone always wonders what happened to various people. He was in with the spieth and thomas' of the world then literally fell off the face of the planet.

I think his biggest problem was that his "social media success" way outpaced his on course success. When he was in those Baker's Bay antics with Spieth/JT/Rickie, I think he thought he had the game to compete with that group. In reality, he didn't have the game on any consistent basis or the mental fortitude to do so.
