Unfortunately, this is more normal for a 48 year old.

 

I'm a fan, but the hype associated with his play 2 weeks ago was probably ahead of itself. He's always been up and down (even 10 years ago), but it will be a good year if he has a few top 10s and another legitimate chance to win (even better if he can actually pull it off).

 

Pray for Jim Nantz's Pebble Beach prediction. That would be great.

It's only one tournament but Rickie needs to win this one. Even though the odds are a toss-up (plus others in the field that still have a shot), he needs to be able to win against one of the other top players for the mental thing going forward.

I agree with his choice. Would have been hard to get the bunker shot inside the wedge he hit from that distance. Not to mention the visual in your head. 99% of the time the next bunker shot is chunked way short.

Fowler missed 6 putts from 4-12' today and still shot 6-under. For comparison JT missed 1 from that range going 6 out of 7.

I Saw that par 5 gaff. Yanked his 6 iron approach into the water. Had to go back into the fairway 80 yards to take his drop. Ouch!!

He didn't yank his approach into the water he hit it in the bunker and then skulled it over the green into the water. Other than that champ played pretty well just seemed to have the same issue Rickie had the first 14 holes... Missed some makeable ones.

You're exactly right. But what I didn't understand is why he went back to the fairway to take his drop. Can someone explain that drop?

He had two options. Replay from the bunker or go on the other side of the penalty area since it was yellow. After skulling one from the bunker I think he was a little yippy

Nope I believe it. Desert courses usually carry the ball longer with the thin air, plus they are at altitude
