Kuchar didn’t lose any sleep over the matter until his sponsors came calling.

I agree. Anyone who thinks Kuchar is doing this out of the goodness of his heart because he “just saw the light” is sorely mistaken IMHO. He realized any potential PR penalty will likely cost him more than paying up. Purely a financial decision

People crack me up. Now Kuchar gives more money but, people don't like the reason he is giving. People love to tell other people what to do and how to act with their money.

Kuchar appears to be making it right and people don't like it. Never going to make everyone happy.

I think you are misunderstanding why people are upset with him still and it is because of his comments over the last week and the only reason he is making things "right," is because the tour and/or his agent were in his ear. Just yesterday and the day before he was confident this was a non-story/non-issue and he felt 5k was perfectly acceptable.

I'm glad to see the caddy getting something from Kuchar but agree that he's probably forced vs. wanting to do the right thing. I don't buy the whole "i didn't mean what i said" but I'm glad he caved and hopefully he can put this behind him and the caddy got a nice pay day. I think the lesson here is no one likes a cheap d***.

I've got a buddy who is at the tournament. He just told me Kooch is catching hell from the crowd.

Ya, they are heckling him pretty bad there are some videos on Twitter. He's going to regret this for a while now, people keep saying that everyone will forget but in the internet age no one forgets things like this. Bad move on Kuchar and his Agent's part.

Btw I think we are on a run of names being misspelled in the titles of these Kuchar threads.

We had el Toucan

We have kouch

The next one we can title "Thom Gillis" responds!

the pga tour had a huge marketing problem and Kuchar was a liability. He is the fed ex leader and apparently 10th all time money list. You can't talk about how great the tour is and all this ton of charity work the tour does, and then say so many of these players are so nice .........................and then have the 10th highest career earner ever win over a mil and say, although my old caddie would have got 129 k, i had an agreement with this guy he gets 5k, and I am generous cause think what this guy actually makes (oops). And then have most media outlets rip him to shreds. But oh, yea, the pga tour is big time supporters of charity and we are charitable guys on tour. The PGA tour could not sell Kuchar's acts and the boo's in LA before the announcement indicate he would be an eyesore to the tour, and their marketing, as stood.

And his annotation in history when walking down the mall from over 75 percent of people seeing him,...."hey, isn't that the smiling guy that was a cheap @$$?" That is how he would and may still be remembered by a majority of the public.

Poor Kuchar, can't make it go away fast enough!

I'm wondering why did the media have such an axe to grind on Kuchar? Specifically, Bamberger and Shipnuck nosing around, stirring the pot. Why? It's not exactly newsworthy and it had no legs until these guys got it going again. So what's up?

The pristine reputation of the PGA Tour and Kuchar and too good of targets to pass up??? I'm not so naive as to think golf is exempt from trash reporting, but it would have been nice if that was the case.

Since Gillis is the most responsible person in getting El Toucan paid. What is the appropriate percentage of the settlement should he receive? He’s not a real lawyer, but he essentially brokered the deal. I’m not suggesting that he gets paid the same as a lawyer where he didn’t go to law school and such. I’m just wondering what is fair.

You are correct. This was so embarrassing the commissioner got involved and told Kuchar to make it right. Unbelievably, there are still some backing Kuchar.

It's simple. Cause and effect. This is all Kuchar's doing. My best guess is, Kuchar thought this would stay in Mexico.

I think this shows Kuchar is either an idiot, a liar, or a spineless weakling. Just yesterday (or the other day), he was telling everyone why what he did was justified.

Personally, I think he stiffed the guy the first time around. But an "agreement" is an agreement so stick to your decision and tell the little media/internet minions to go screw themselves if that's what you think. Don't do this.

I really hope for the rest of his career people yell "El Cheapo" after every shot instead of "Kooch." I'm also now really glad that Spieth came back at the 2017 Open. Kuchar is a stiff.

I am glad Kuch paid El Tucan. Amazing to me the people on here and that I play golf with that say Kuch fulfilled the agreement and that is good enough. He did fulfill the agreement but in the cheapest sense! I agree with the folks who say Kuch is only doing this to save face.

Use the money to better you and your family's lives David El Tucan Ortiz!

Edit: These several threads about this situation have been a train wreck that has been fun to watch unravel! I have never given so many likes.

.38% if that is what they agreed to in advance.

5% if Gillis is a fill-in (I assume this is a 'win').

10% if he's a regular.

Where are all the people who said that there would be no backlash over this for Kuchar, and that he needn't fear any fallout or loss of revenue. Sure seems like he didn't need to write a letter, comment twice publicly, and pony up another 45k if that was the case.

Where are you guys? You know who you are.
