Your ball for 2019

I’ve played the Pro v1 pretty much since it was launched, I have never liked the X, until this years version. I have wanted to use the X for a while, mainly for the slightly higher launch, but I’ve never liked the feel or that it use to spin less. This years version seems really good, possibly very slightly softer? Its usually windy where I play, a couple of iron shots have ballooned a bit other than that I have seen enough to swap to it.

They seem more durable than the 2017 range as well.

Waiting on new irons (Srixon 585/785s), so will do, or approximate, a ball fitting once they arrive. Given that they are low spin irons to begin with, I’ll be testing balls that spin more. So after reading the MGS test, I've narrowed it down to Snell MTBx, Titleist ProV1x, Srixon Zstar XV, and Bridgestone B XS. Two dozen Snell on the way, will get some sleeves of the others soon.

Two balls this year. Windy conditions and reasonably receptive greens will dictate the AVX. Very firm, fast greens with moderate wind will push me to my stock of Srixon XVs. Need the extra spin to properly hold some of the more extreme greens I encounter in tournament play. Once the Srixons are gone I will probably transition my spinny ball to a ProV1x. I wasn't sure that I would ever encounter greens where the AVX iron spin was insufficient, but now that I have, the issue needs to be addressed.

That's actually very interesting. Never thought about switching balls due to conditions.

I don't know about South Texas but a calm day is a rarity in South Florida so I guess I'd be playing the same ball (AVX) all the time anyway.

Not sure if I'd be able to easily adjust to the 5 yards less most other balls give me anyway - that'd be more likely to hurt me than firmer greens would.

In South Texas it always blows, but I play tournaments in places where wind is much less of a factor, but where they can apparently make the greens so firm, fast, and slopey that I can't hold the greens as well as I want even with short irons (this week's painful lesson). If it is windy and crazy greens then you have to pick your poison.

After the test, I decided to try a few off the list: Snell MTB-X, Maxfli Tour and Tour X. Been switching around a bit prior, over the last year I've been playing Bridgestone RXS, XS, Mizzy Tour Rb X and Ksig 3pc. I played twice over the weekend and I liked the MTB-X, but it did add a little to my slice. It def went far, but I felt like the Tour X was more controllable for me. And the spin on the Tour X fit me damn well. I sit around a 12 handicap, with around 105-110mph driver ss. Ordered 6dz more, lol

Will pick up a sleeve of Mizunos but having read horrendous reviews about their durability I am in no rush.

you lost distance with the bxs huh, that’s amazing how a ball is different for a lot of folks. i guess it depends on your launch angle and some other stuff. i have been gaming the bxs and got it to a consistent 10 yard gain with irons.

Going to give the new V1x a try. Came from TP5x to Tour BX, just preferred the feel and spin of 19 V1x. Ball test results didn't hurt.

I thought i liked the new TP5X, but each time I played it I disliked the feel more and more so I took back the dozen I had and exchanged it for the new ProV1x. I liked it, much better feel wise and distance was a wash. In the past I have not played a Titleist ball because they were a little shorter but I played yesterday and saw my normal distance that I did with my 2018 TP5X I played last year, if I am giving up some yards it’s not much.

I am loving the ‘19 V1x. I’m bombing it off the tee. I like the high ball flight. And it checks up on greens like I expect. It is slightly firmer than I like off the putter, but it’s other advantages over the V1 are good enough to make me overlook the clicky-ness off the putter. If I switched I might go to z-star, but no plans to switch at the moment!

I've landed on the Chromesoft TruVis (red soccer ball). I think the TruVis works for me - seems like my depth perception and focus is a bit better. I may try the X version though as I'd like a bit more spin.

I was a long time Prov1x user then switched to Snell MTB for the last couple seasons. I put the Prov1x back into play last round and played my best most consistent rounds in years. I drove the ball well, hit my irons decent, chipped in twice and made some putts. An all around solid round especially this early in the season. Maybe it was a coincidence but it has been a long time since all aspects of my game were on at the same time. I will be making the switch back to the Prov1x permanently.

if you like the bx, will you then try the prov1x? it’s a vicious cycle trying to play a ball all season. i am committed to the bxs myself, finally got use to it off the putter face. irons and driver it’s very good for me. my wife got me a box of prov1x for a easter present( no chocolates for me been on a diet) and i have yet to even open a sleeve because i am content and still happy. if i have a few bad rounds i’ll give them a shot.
