tsecor,

I knew from chipping and messing around the practice area of our club that these balls were what I 'could' play with .

I am a high spin player I assume reading all the other peoples numbers on golfwrx. I play a pxg gen 2 9 degree set to 8 degrees. my angle of attack is around +5-5.5degrees. My swing speed is 105 give or take a mph any given day. My handicap is 2ish.

The prov spun at 2150-2200, launch at 14-14.5

the prov1x spun at around 2350 or so and launched 13.5

the tp5x spun near the prov1 at around 2200 and similar launch. I do not like this ball around the green as I tend to hit a lower trap spinner with the 60 degree more so that a 'hit and run' type of shot.

so all in all, the prov1 had the best numbers off the launch monitor and was for me, way better around the greens for the typical chip I feel most comfortable with.

for what it is worth, I hit a snell black the other day. it is a super ball and spins green side like or better than the prov1 and may, I say that cause I did not have it for the test, may be longer than the prov1. wish I had a sleeve to compare..

I think for right now my ball will be the Vice Pro+ just because I have 6 dozen on the way in.

I'll use that ball as a baseline while I compare it to some others. I have and will test are: Snell MTB Black and Red, will order MTB-X soon. Bridgestone Tour B X I think I fit into, TP5 and TP5x, Pro V1X, Z-Star and Z-Star XV. I think that's it maybe the Mizuno ball.

2018 played the AVX With great results. This year gaming the M6 driver and Honma TW 747v irons. AVX wasn’t getting the ball flight I liked anymore. Switched to the 2019 ProV1x and ball flight back to normal. The ProV1x isn’t as long as the AVX with the driver, but is a 1/2 club longer with a higher flight with the irons and hitting more greens. I’m fine with that trade off.

How close are the MTB BLACK and CS?

Due to the variable conditions we play in over here in the UK I'll be starting the season armed with a selection of balls. I will generally pick between (from hardest to softest):

Tour Soft

AVX

Nike RZN Tour Black (still have 4 doz)

Tour B XS

RZN Tour Platinum

Yeah I really need to clear out my stash before trying anything else. Only 13 dozen to go.....

The Dee Three - Titleist TS4 9.5 deg, EvenFlow White 6.5 65g, A1 Setting

Henrik - Titleist 917 F3 15 deg, Rogue Max 75x, B2 Setting

The Walking Stick - Titleist 818 H2 19 deg, Rogue Max 85x, B2 Setting

The Interloper - TaylorMade P770 3 iron, S400 Tour Issue, +0.5inch +1 deg loft

The Blades - Nike VR Pro 4 - AW, S400 Tour Issue, +0.5 inch

The Sand Iron - TaylorMade MG2 TW-12 Grind, 56 degree, S400 Tour Issue

The Flopper - TaylorMade MG2 TW-11 Grind, 60 Degree, S400 Tour Issue

The Putter - Nike Method 003 from The Oven

In my opinion, they are very close. I think the MTB Black are a little more responsive off the putter head so I end up either in the hole or closer to it. The CS is indeed a very good ball, but I just find that the MTB Black is longer off the driver and easier to control with the putter. Irons I would say they are very similar.

Last year I played Vice soft, Cute white and Blue and super soft. I don’t need or want the expensive balls. I don’t loose them, but if I want spin, Cut Blue has more than prov1 or x or any other ball I’ve tried. The major golf ball companies are ripping of the consumer with their insane prices.

Their is no reason for golf balls to cost more than $20 a dozen.Titleist is the king of rip-off.

Ok, everyone rant off, go play.

Last year for most of the season I used Snell MTB red and Srixon XVs.

September hit, everything got wetter and slower so I decided to try a different ball with less greenside spin.

Ever have a ball that just plain worked for your swing/game, no matter how much you thought it would just be a "winter ball" or "spring ball"? I shot my best rounds of the year on various courses with the Callaway Superhot 55. No idea why, on paper it shouldn't work well for me. But damn, I hit those things pretty straight and they have the right amount of stop/backspin that I'm not leaving every approach short and stuck in it's pitch mark.

Going to try them on some of the quicker courses during the summer to see, but if they start the year the way they ended it I'll be using the SuperHot 55 all damn year. Dirt cheap.

I tested the new yellow Pro V1 a few days ago and was thoroughly impressed. Excellent performance and durability. I'm not sure if the improved durability is a bi-product of making the cover yellow, but it reminded me of the original Z-Star yellow (pre spin skin), which I absolutely loved.

I'm waiting on a Snell MTB Black yellow ball test pack. Once they arrive I'll do a head to head against the yellow Pro V1 to determine the winner.

I see lots of folks stuck between the low launch/low spin AVX and the opposite end of the spectrum high launch/high spin tour balls and it makes me wonder what folks are thinking here. Can you explain why the RX, AVX, and TP5x for you are top contenders?
